I came across another medieval German source for historical Baldwin and I thought I'd share them with you fellow Baldwin fans by translating it. The source for this is: Friedrich Heinrich von der Hagen (Hg.), Des Landgrafen Ludwig's des Frommen Kreuzfahrt. Heldengedicht der Belagerung von Akkon am Ende des zwölften Jahrhunderts, Leipzig 1854. Of course this is a historical text so the informations don't have to be 'official' and probably are influenced by traditional depictions of kings.

The original text is passed down in Cod. 2737 (National Bibliotheca Vienna) and was written in the early 14th century.

The translations starts a bit earlier, when the author still talks about Baldwins father so that there are more informations included. Also I didn't include passages inbetween that don't have anything to do with Baldwin to shorten the text a bit. I also included informations inbetween the [ ]'s.

Sorry for possible mistakes!

The most important informations:

-Baldwin was a gentle and courageous king

-he was good looking, just as his sister Sibylla

-he tried to achieve a lot

-he loved his nephew dearly

-he really liked the first husband of Sibylla

-he did choose to stay unmarried (although he probably didn't have much choice)

-it seems that even the writer of this text didn't like Guy because he mentions that Baldwin had to suffer from Wilhelm of Montferrats death

-seriously why Guy?
