The radio crackles to life on the surveillance desk, Grey communicating the impending arrival of The Dream Team, Metro and an estimated start to the long awaited raid.
Tim closes his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose with a long sigh.
He’s very ready for this operation to be over. While he loves the action and adrenaline of a good op, this part — the watching and waiting — can be agonizing.
Especially when he’s basically locked away in a windowless van with his cowboy of a rookie.
It gives him too much time alone with his thoughts, which has proven to be quite detrimental in the past.
He’s not that man anymore, of course. He’s been working so hard over the last year to not let the demons of his past destroy his life now, to — as he tried to say to Lucy a few days ago — fix what’s been broken inside of him.
Tim is pretty confident he has. He hopes he has.
He feels different, and he’s noticed the change in how he talks about himself internally, too.
The radio crackles to life again, another familiar voice, the most familiar, announcing the arrival of the support teams.
God, he really needs to get around to having that conversation with her again.
She’s probably exhausted, after working a full night shift and now joining a multi-country, multi-agency operation. A complicated and emotionally heavy conversation with him is probably the last thing she wants to do after this.
Plus, Tim doesn’t love the idea of asking her a life changing question when she’s sleep deprived and not thinking clearly.
Which means, it’s definitely being put off for at least another day.
They could maybe talk tonight? It’s just barely past dawn and they’re both in overtime territory now, meaning they will almost certainly have the day off tomorrow.
