my perfect man?
someone that will make my parents have to question whether he’s secretly a gay man or if he’s just very comfortable in his femininity.
Was talking to the lovely @thembrooklynboysbig and had this thought
Imagine Darry tearing though all the custody denial letter from all his family members after his parents died
Darry sat at the kitchen table with tears in his eyes as he realizes he really does have to do this alone
That those aunts and uncles who played with the boys as babies weren't real family and that's he'd have to grow up over night
His first real confrontation with being utterly alone
One time Darry hit Ponyboy with his truck as he was backing out of the driveway.
It was really early, so he was still half-awake and just not paying attention and then boom. He hits something.
He was going slow, so Ponyboy was fine. He just got knocked over and skinned his knee and elbow.
Darry felt really bad about it and brought him home some ice cream that night to say sorry, so Ponyboy basically had to forgive him.
Despite that, the gang will never let him live it down. Every time Darry drives with one of them in the truck they'll go, "Make sure you don't run over Ponyboy, AGAIN.”
ooo i bet pony’s dramatic ass is leading the pack on it, too. the gang all makes fun of darry for it but pony loves to use it when he wants something.
“darry, can i go to the drive in tomorrow night?”
“we gotta do yard work tomorrow.”
“hey remember that time you hit me with the truck? yeah, it’d be a real shame if the social worker heard about that…”
“…god give me strength.”
no bc why does dally always act like he has a stick up his ahh jdksdns always so angry & for wut 😭
ppl hating that darrys a dropout in the musical when pony makes a point in the first 3 mins of the show to say that socs get “graduation days” .. mind you darry won’t get to graduate college after working his whole life for it, soda dropped out of high school and will never graduate even though pony knows soda is smarter than he thinks he is bc greasers don’t get afforded the same luxuries and accommodations socs do to finish school, AND by the end of the story pony’s damn near ready to call it quits on living?? meaning what if he never graduates either??
which greasers would have been drafted in the vietnam war, according to the 1970 birthday lottery
ponyboy curtis (jul 22, 1951) - drafted
sodapop curtis (oct 8, 1949) - not drafted
darry curtis (jan 5, 1945) - drafted
johnny cade (march 1, 1949) - drafted
dallas winston (november 9, 1948) - drafted
two bit mathews (june 20, 1947) - not drafted
steve randle (april 15, 1949) - not drafted
PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who hasn't seen this:
I'm fine with that answer. (He probably gets decent tips)
people NEED to hear mother mother songs aside from Hayloft I & II, Body, Burning Pile, Wrecking Ball, Oh Ana, and Verbatim.
would it be a hot take if i said i.. almost prefer the musicals take on how darry WAS in school and then had to drop out… or
OK BC IVE BEEN (silently) STANDING ON THIS HILL FOR A WHILE NOW
I can prove that Darry was definitely in college prior to his parents death. I’ve been thinking about this for like a year, so prior to me even knowing about the musical or even seeing it.
For context, book is set in August: a month after Pony’s birthday, and prior to school starting (which would’ve started post-Labor Day). When the book begins, Ponyboy states that his parents died eight months prior to the book. That would put their death in December of the previous year. Darry’s birthday, according to the internet, is in January, and he turned 20 that year.
Most likely, he graduated high school at 18– 19 if he was held back. But let’s say 18, for rn.
Afterhigh school, he would’ve gone straight to college with his full-ride scholarship, at 18 years old. He would’ve spent his entire first year and then the following year’s fall semester at college, dropping out that December or January following his parents death. That means he was at college for at least a year and a half before his parents died.
And even if he was 19 when he graduate, he still would’ve gone to college for a semester.
like, he had a taste of freedom outside of his home, outside of his town. he was able to experience college football, probably college parties, various peoples. and then he was torn away from it, bc he made the selfless choice to drop-out and take care of his brothers.
breaks my heart tbh :/
i’m overstimulated with loud sounds, so i must play loud sounds from spotify to calm me down.
i know that it’s been said in the book that Darry’s relationship with his parents was great but the potential of him having been deeply hurt by them but putting up a pretence that all was well with their relationship in order to preserve Ponyboy and Sodapop’s memory of them is so scrumptious. The idea of him having been physically abused in some way as a small child and later swearing that he would never do the same, but then seeing his father in the mirror for months after he hits Ponyboy. Add on the idea of Darry being on bad terms with them when they died and the angst gets so gooddd
Smth that I've noticed in the outsiders fandom is when it comes to angst about abuse or js angst in general everyone automatically goes for johnny.
Like thats not bad bc like I can understand why. BUT WHERE IS THE STEVE RANDLE ANGST.
LIKE. bro has a shitty dad who kicks him out all the time, no mom, his dad PAYS for steve to forgive him. And he spends most nights at the curtis house.
Not to mention that he also had to go through johnny and dallys death.
Cmon.
Guys what actress do you think would play Sylvia in the outsiders???
ok, i did some digging (i’m not well-versed in female actors from the 80s) and i found at least 2 people that i think could play her role (at least physically speaking)
Michelle Pfeiffer
i looked into how Sylvia was described physically, and the internet said that she had light blonde hair and green or blue eyes.
and that’s literally Michelle.
idk i feel like she looks like someone Dallas would go after.
Brooke Shields
she’s so beautiful oml
Idk, what do y’all think
