The Importance of a Touchscreen
I have gotten a lot of emails from people wondering if a touch screen is really worth it. To be completely concise and to the point; it really depends on what you need. I know that answer does not really help anyone out, but you really have to look at your needs and desires when it comes to a laptop. Are you going to be gaming? Is your laptop going to be for school? Will it be for work? How will you be using it? Do you need the touchscreen to do multi-media things like Photoshop or Vegas Pro? Will it help you out? How have you fared with a PC (click this link for a list of great starting pre-built desktops) that does not have a touchscreen?
All of these questions have to be answered from you, and only you, because your perspective is really all that matters. There will be people all over the Internet telling you that touchscreens are the best things that ever happened to technology. There will also be people on the Internet that tell you that it isn’t all that, or it is all hype, or that it is too costly. But in all, the decision boils down to you. You have to realize what is worth your money.
How do you do that if you have never used a touchscreen laptop? Thanks for asking. Go to your local computer retailer (whether that be Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc. -- Anywhere really that sells laptops or computers and actually displays them for you, the consumer, to test out). Play around with some of the technology that they have on display. Find touchscreen laptops that you know you would be interested in purchasing. Use the screen and get comfortable with the device. Play with it like you own it. Is it comfortable? Do you find value in the monitor being able to be swiped by your finger? Will it be useful in a student or work setting (think Microsoft Surface Pro-esque)?
Next, check out the devices that do not have touch screen displays. Are you OK with just the mouse setup? Take a look at the prices too. Pay special attention to these because you will notice that computers with the same specs but with a touchscreen cost significantly more than those without. But to some, the value of a touchscreen is worth it. You figure it out. Would you rather have the accessibility of a touch-enabled device or would you rather have that money go to better hardware?
Each side has its pros and cons. The choice really is yours. However, I am willing to help people out if they have questions. Just be sure to comment here or send me an email. Only thing I ask is you list out your needs because that is the only way I would be able to offer advice. I can easily go out and recommend 10 touch-enabled computers from scratch, but it would not mean anything if you are only looking to play video games on it (as PC games would be quite tough to play using just the screen to control).
