MADISON (WKOW) -- The party is just getting started for Judge Chris Taylor, who is set to become the newest justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
At around 8:30 p.m., cheers rang out throughout the Madison Concourse Hotel after the Associated Press called the race in favor of Taylor.
Taylor's win marks a strong liberal majority of 5-2 in the state supreme court.
Taylor made her way to the stage at around 9:15 p.m. to give her victory speech, surrounded by her family and friends who supported her during her 11-month campaign.
Chief Justice Jill Karofsky gave an introduction speech before Taylor took to the microphone.
Justice Susan Crawford, who won last year's State Supreme Court race, was also in attendance.
Sandy Solo spoke with 27 News at Taylor's Election party and says she was the first person to show up when the doors opened.
She says she resonated most with Taylor's emphasis on being pro-choice.
“Our bodies, our rights," Solo said. "Even though I’m not at a child bearing age, it’s a women’s right to do what she wants with her body. The government shouldn’t be part of that, so that’s why I voted for her."
Taylor was overwhelmed by the amount of support she received on the campaign trail and showed immense gratitude to her supporters.
"People are hungry for a government that works for them, people are hungry for a judiciary that prioritizes them, that protects our race that are for all Wisconsinites," Taylor said.
"Once again Wisconsin showed the entire nation that we believe that the people should be at the center of government and the priority of our judiciary, not the billionaires, not the most powerful, but the people," Taylor added.
Taylor gave a special shout out to her young campaign managers, who helped her campaign, citing that they were a critical part of Wisconsin's history.
Taylor becomes the sixth woman to join the State Supreme Court and will serve a 10 year term.
