In the I am Clancy monologue Clancy tells us “I am a citizen of Dema" but in the I am Torchbearer monologue Torchbearer tells us "Every single one of us were citizens of Dema once”
This is a clancy that has attempted to escape Dema multiple times and has just spent six years in captivity there but still says "I am a citizen of an old city." Torchbearer and the banditos have renounced the city in a way Clancy never does and maybe can't.
it's the "I never really believed I could get out forever" and also the "this thing that's killing me is so familiar it sometimes feels like home" and the "running isn't enough to leave it behind"
but it's also the "I haven't given up on these people and I can still see this place for what it could be." It's another way they show Clancy and Torchbearer's opposing natures which only strengthens how much they need each other.
