Sketchbook pages for project 3!
This really shows where I was at the very beginning of the project and how things kind of took shape. Initially I was looking at this piece as a form of self care, it then morphed to incorporate holistic healing that was brought to my attention by my grandmother, and finally culminated with my newly found trust in the spirituality of wellness.
Project 2: Whitewash (Final Documentation)
In a complete accident, the lights in the room were switched to a less direct and more ambient light, creating an incredible shadow of the scenes on the walls behind the images. I decided this composition was more effective in the way that it looked more like a wash line and the images weren’t crowded against each other. Even though there isn’t a super huge draw because the lighting isn’t spotlighting the scenes anymore, the shadows create an incredible effect that I am in love with.
Project 2: Whitewash (Initial documentation)
After much struggle in settling on a concept and a medium, I decided to create a piece protesting the white-washing of main stream cable media. I looked at all the major network channels that are offered with the basic/most cost effective cable packages and then took screenshots from 16 shows. I printed the photos with onto semi-gloss photo paper and then X-acto knifed all of the white characters faces and any place where skin was showing out of the photos. For critique, I displayed all the photos on one line with 2 pins holding each photo, with all the photos nearly touching.
Assignment 4: Mold making
I decided to combine assignment 4 and our final project by making silicone molds in the shape of pomegranate pieces. I cast the molds in varying colors of scented wax and used homemade wicks as well to complete a more holistic process, aligning with my theme for project 4.
Ultimately, these candles were given as “signs” to my classmates and were used during my ritual for project 4.

Assignment 3: Partnered Storage
My partner for the storage gift was Brittney, who is an interior design and art education double major. She told me she needed something to hold and organize her papers as well as hold her paints. I created a sort of cabinet organizing device with staggered shelves that are able to hold different sizes if bottles/paints/brushes and a flat top to hold papers. The cabinet is 2 feet tall and just over a foot deep and wide so it can fit virtually anywhere; home or studio space. I also stained it a redish color because Brittney had mentioned that her favorite color is red! I thought it was a perfect and simple storage solution that totally suited her needs.
Assignment 2: Body Extension
I was inspired by Victorian-era crowns for my body extension and decided to create a more simple rendition out of pencil rod.
