Askek (Species information)
These avian-reptilian hybrids are perhaps one of the most intelligent (if not the most intelligent) of alien species in the entire known universe. Their species, having started out peaceful but always having a thirst for knowledge, soon lost most of their fighting capability. Of course, they hardly need it with the kind of weapons they’re capable of producing, giving them the most powerful spacial fleets known to life.
They are not as barbaric as their vicious Vogi rivals, but they are not any nicer. In fact, they are known to be incredibly cruel if it means learning something new, even driving species to near-extinction just trying to dissect the bodies and learn more about them.
As their planet is very humid and tropical, the Askek have developed cold blood, which helps them survive even the most scorching of temperatures, despite their thick, colourful plumage.
As far as organs go, they have rather unusual placement- the heart is in their skull, surrounded by organic tissue much like you’d surround a fragile trinket with newspaper or bubblewrap during moving, when you pack it up in a box. The brain is located in the camel-like hump on the back- and to give reference as to how large they are, their head is the size of a normal human head.
As far as colouring goes, their scales and feathers are not lacking in colour at all, and will often times have the entire colour spectrum on them, though can also sometimes have simpler colourings. Grey or dull feathers and scales are a sign of sickness, and is never their natural colour. The only colour that is constant for them are the grey arms they have, and their black beaks, eyes, and feather markings.
Askek reproduce asexually, up to a dozen eggs at one time. However, they don’t reproduce too often, and actually manipulate how often they lay eggs to control the population and keep it at a reasonable amount. And while Askek young are totally defenseless until fully mature, it only takes about a few weeks for this to occur.
Due to their method of breeding, there is only one gender, and in the novel will be referred to as “it”.
