"That was just rational deception to make sure you gave it your all in the tests."
Your classmates raised a hoot about that one.
"I'm surprised the rest of you didn't figure that out. I'm sorry, I guess I should have said something," That Momo girl pointed out.
Oh she's one of those girls.
A girl with purple hair, Kaminari, and a short boy with- balls on his head?- spoke up all at once.
"Yeah, you should have."
Shoto leaned down by your ear and whispered, "That was quite amusing."
You snorted softly.
You looked over at Midoriya to see him sweating and staring shocked at Aizawa.
You giggled softly and he turned to look at you, his green eyes questioning. Then his whole face turned bright red.
So did yours.
You caught Ashido's eye who was standing near Midoriya.
She smirked and mouthed, "Midoriya, huh?"
You playfully glare at her and turn your attention back to the teacher before you.
"That's it, we're done for the day. Pick up a syllabus in the classroom and read it over before tomorrow morning," he sighs.
"Midoriya- take this and go have the old lady fix you up."
Aizawa handed Midoriya a hall pass and looked around at everyone.
"Will someone go with and make sure he doesn't hurt himself again?"
Students giggled.
"You- Todoroki. Grab your stuff and head out with him."
Your cheeks heated up again.
"A-alright. See you, Shoto," You side-hugged his arm before walking to the girls locker room.
As you walked out, back in your school uniform with your backpack, you saw Midoriya waiting for you.
"Ready?" I asked as he snapped out of his daze.
"Oh! Yeah, mhm."
The two of you walked in silence all the way to Recovery Girl's office.
Midoriya opened the door and stepped aside to let you in.
"Oh that's okay-"
"I insist, really-"
"You can go first, honestly-"
"Will you just come in already?" Recovery Girl spoke over the (banter?).
You hurried and went as Midoriya came in after you.
"You, again?" the old lady sighed.
"I'll be right back, dearies. You feel free to wait here."
She left the room to drop off some paperwork to the principal's office.
"So... does it hurt?" Does it hurt? What the fuck kind of question is that, of course it hurts!
"Only a little right now. I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing but I'm not complaining," he chuckled softly.
Your eyes softened at the sweet sound.
If that was the last thing I heard before I died, I'd be content.
"Let's hope it's a good thing then," you smiled softly.
The two of you met eyes and held each other's gaze in a locked look of interest.
He cleared his throat and looked away, breaking your concentration.
"Hey, your quirk is really something. During the entrance exam, when you caught me with your water- thanks for that, by the way- it was more warm, but today during the race, I went up against you and caught a little bit of the splash, and it was cold. Do you do that on purpose as part of your quirk? Or do you have two quirks like your brother? Or-" he muttered in a ramble.
A soft smile made its way onto your face as you listened to the nonsense he was spurting from his mouth, unconsciously connecting his freckles together like connect-the-dots.
"-cause if you can regulate the temperature within the water- oh jeez, I'm rambling again, aren't I? I'm so sorry-"
"No! Uh, no, you're okay. And yeah, I can change the temperature of the water at my will or sometimes it fluctuates as my emotions change," you say, happy that someone cared about you enough to ask you about your quirk.
"O-oh. That's really cool. Do you mind if I ask you a couple more questions regarding your quirk? For my notebook?"
You thought it was so freaking cute that he kept a notebook of people's quirks. Like character analysis.
"Of course!"
He happily whipped out his notebook from his bright yellow bag and- with his good hand-, began to write down the things you'd tell him about your quirk.
Recovery Girl stood at the doorway of the infirmary, shaking her head with a knowing look on her face.
"Those two will get together before second semester- I can almost guarantee it."
"Wanna bet on it?" Aizawa murmured quietly from beside her.
You stood around with some of the girls and boys of Class 1-A as you all waited for the last few students to finish getting changed.
A cute girl with pink hair and pink skin came up to you.
"Hey there! I'm Mina Ashido! What's your name?"
You smiled softly.
"Y/n Todoroki. I'm here with my twin brother, Shoto. He's over there, with two different colors in his hair?" You pointed over to your deadpanned brother, who was standing little ways away from the lot.
"Wow! There's two of you? We can't possibly call you both 'Todoroki', then," a cute yellow haired boy walked up to the two of you. "Oh, names Denki Kaminari, by the way."
You laughed lightly. "I guess not, huh?"
As the two of them listed off dumb ideas for nicknames, your eyes flitted to an attractive boy who had just walked out of the locker room with ash blonde hair and piercing red eyes.
Your cheeks lit up at the mere sight of him.
"Woah..."
The two stopped their lists as they followed your eyes and Ashido smirked.
"Bakugo, huh?" she whispered.
What?
"What? No way. He's just...really hot."
Ashido laughed and nodded while Kaminari snorted.
After Bakugo, out walked Midoriya, a nervous look on his face.
Your cheeks flushed brighter.
I've really gotta get that under control.
Why are all of my classmates so attractive???
"You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives. But you never got to use your quirks in physical exams before," Aizawa's voice broke me out of my daze.
"The country's still trying to pretend we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational."
This guy's all about rational, isn't he?
"One day, the Ministry of Education will learn," he continued.
"Miss Todoroki," he said, making you look up from the ground and nod slightly at the teacher, acknowledging that you had heard him.
"-you managed to score the most points on the entrance exam,"
This earned a few murmurs and your brother nudged you softly with his elbow.
"What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in Junior High?"
You thought for a moment before answering the tired man's question.
"72 meters, I'm pretty sure."
"Right. Try doing it with your quirk," he said as you began to walk up to the white circle painted on the dirt.
You stretched your arms as he continued.
"Anything goes, just stay in the circle."
You reeled your arm back as you caught the softball he tossed to you.
Your jaw clenched as you conjured a strong jet of water to follow your throw, sending it farther than you could see.
You rubbed your shoulder as he showed the class the monitor.
904.6 meters. Not too shabby.
"All of you need to know your maximum capabilities. It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero."
A few people gasped.
"Woah! 905 meters, are you kidding me?"
"I wanna go! That looks like fun!"
"This is what I'm talkin' about, usin' our quirks as much as we want!"
Aizawa scoffed as he listened to the murmuring of the class.
"So this looks fun, huh?"
The class immediately quieted down.
"You have three years here to become a hero. You think it's all gonna be games and play time? Idiots."
"Damn," someone muttered behind you.
"Today you'll compete in eight physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none, and will be immediately expelled."
"Damn!" the same voice said, louder as your class's voices rose in a flurry of protests.

Your eyes unconsciously scanned the list for Midoriya's name, which was...at the very bottom.
This is it. I'm finally living out my childhood dream.
I walk through the large gates of UA High, only to see hundreds of students filing in, all excited looks on their faces.
This quirk was such a blessing, and knowing I'm finally going to be able to achieve something that before was just dreamable, is truly remarkable.
I'm so freaking excited!
It took me a while to find Class 1-A, but when I did-
Man, this thing is huge. Are there giants here?
The most promising students in the country are waiting behind this door.
"Take your feet off that desk now!"
It's that guy from the entrance exam, Ida, I think it was.
"Huh?"
"It's the first day and you're already disrespecting this academy by scuffing school property, you cretin!"
Who is he talking to?
Ida moved to the side a little and I saw blonde hair.
Oh no. I'm so screwed. Wait- what am I thinking? I have a quirk now! I shouldn't be scared of Kacchan anymore-
"Your old school put a stick up your ass?" I heard Kacchan say, "Or were you just born with it?" before I heard a small snicker from the back of the classroom.
I looked up and my eyes met a pair of icy blue ones.
It's that girl I met a few weeks ago!
My face flushed a bright red. She's so pretty...
She looked away from me while covering the bottom half of her face.
Great! I probably made her uncomfortable!
But when she removed her hand, I could've swore I had just seen an angel. Her smile was absolutely gorgeous, her eyes sparkling, the blush on her cheeks light but contrasting drastically against her pale skin-
"Let's start over. I'm Tenya Ida from Somei Private Academy- along with my acquaintance, Y/n Todoroki, in the back," he motioned towards the back of the classroom to the pretty girl- Y/n from before.
"Somei, huh? So you must think you're better than me?" Kacchan started with a hard tone.
"I'm gonna have fun tearin' you a new one," he smirked.
Ugh.
Ida gasps dramatically.
"You would threaten me? Your own classmate?" He asked, flabbergasted.
"Are you sure you're in the right place?"
"Ha!"
Ida turns around to look at me, and I freeze nervously.
"Huh? It's him."
"Uh, hi," I stammer.
"Good morning! My name is Tenya Ida fro-"
"Yeah, I-I know," I interrupted him from his loud introduction.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya. It's super nice to meet you," I say as politely as possible. I didn't know if this guy's temper was anything like Kacchan's, so I was careful.
"Midoriya. You realized that there was something more to the practical exam, didn't you?" he questioned, sternly.
I raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Huh?"
"You must be very perceptive. And I completely misjudged you, I admit. As a student, you're far superior to me," he placed a heavy hand on his chest as he declared- whatever it was.
I looked around to see the pretty gi- Todoroki, looking with a raised expression, maybe of shock.
Clearly, he wasn't like this all of the time.
"Um, I find that hard to believe-"
"Hey! I recognize that messed up hair!" A somewhat high pitched feminine voice piped up from behind me.
Is that seriously how people recognize me? Maybe I should start brushing it out-
"-falling boy!"
I looked to see that nice girl who talked to me the day of the entrance exam.
"That punch was amazing!" she exclaimed, waving her fist in the air in a punching motion.
Then I saw her look into the classroom as she noticed Todoroki and smiled wide.
"Hey! I caught the tail end of your save! Your quirk is amazing!" she yelled.
Todoroki's face flushed brightly again as she waved her off.
The boy sat behind her with dual-toned hair, rolled his eyes and looked down at his phone.
He's kinda pretty too-
"What do you think we're doing today besides orientation? I wonder what our teachers are like. I can't wait to meet everybody!" the brown haired girl rambled happily.
"If you're just here to make friends, then you can pack up your stuff now."
"Ah!"
"U-uh-"
The girl whimpered.
"Welcome to UA's hero course. "
"What is that thing?" I heard someone ask under their breath.
I heard a snicker from the same direction as earlier.
So I'm not the only one who thought that was pretty funny?
"It took eight seconds before you all shut up," he began to crawl out of the...sleeping bag?
"That's not gonna work. Time is precious. Rational students would understand that."
Who is this guy? If he's here, he must be some kind of pro. But he looks so worn out, What's his deal?
"Hello, I'm Shoto Aizawa. Your teacher."
I heard gasps from around the room.
Aizawa pulled out a neatly folded uniform from his sleeping bag.
"Right, let's get to it. Put these on and head outside."
I remember All Might saying something about UA's weird teaching curriculums.
As we walked down to the locker rooms, all I could think about was how happy I was that I was even here.
You sighed as your walk home felt more tiring than the entrance exam itself. You had passed it so quickly that you had a hard time keeping track of all of your points.
You thought about the green haired boy.

He jumped up as the giant robot crashed through a nearby building.
He's saving that girl.
A loud thud and the robot was taken down with a singular punch.
This kid was a menace.
As he fell, the girl became unconscious. The boy kept falling and falling.
Wasn't he going to stop his landing?
Then you realized, he was out cold, too.
Well, fuck.
You ran as fast as your legs could carry you as you tried to reach the boy.
You stuck your hands out and a large body of water came underneath the boy and splashed as he landed.
You cleared out the water and looked at the now soaking wet boy sprawled out on the ground.
Oh my God...
Wait a second, isn't he quirkless?
WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT, THEN!?

You left before anything else happened.
"Y/n."
A firm voice boomed from the living room.
Your father.
Shoto should be home by now. Maybe I'll just head up-
"Y/n. Now."
Yep. You were in deep shit, now.
"Y-yes father?" You tried to keep the shaking in your voice down, but to no avail.
"Where were you today?"
You swallowed hard.
"At- at UA, father."
"And why were you at UA?"
Your hands started to shake as you nervously looked down at the floor.
"Well!?"
"I was participating in the entrance exam!" You said, your voice louder than you meant it to be.
Enji sighed heavily, fury evident in his eyes.
"I specifically told you to not apply for UA! You've disobeyed me again! How do you think you should be punished this time, hm? Because I've run out of ideas!" he yelled.
Before you could answer, the icy voice of your brother responded.
"Maybe that's because you're too dense, Endeavor."
Shoto came and pulled you away by your arm, towards the stairs.
"Shoto! Y/N!"
Your father's shouts of protest were cut off by the slamming of Shoto's bedroom door.
You sat on his bed as tears started to stream down your red cheeks. You felt the bed dip next to you as Shoto rubbed a hand on your back; an attempt to comfort you.
He wasn't the best at comforting people, and he knew that as well as you, but he sure as hell tried.
That's one of the reasons you loved him so much.
"So... I'm assuming you passed?" he spoke up after a while.
You sniffled and smiled softly.
"Yeah. Yeah, I think I passed."
He nodded and looked away. It was night time, and he seemed to have remembered something when he looked outside the window.
"Hey, wanna go see the moon?"

The two of you sat in silence and looked up at the sky, the crescent moon shining brighter than any of the stars combined.
"I hate him so fucking much, Shoto, that it hurts."
He nodded and furrowed his eyebrows.
"Me too."
It was silent for the rest of the night and Shoto told himself to make sure that you weren't this lonely when the two of you would go to UA together.
He would protect you from your father, and from any harm that might come your way down the road to becoming a hero alongside your twin brother.
Everyone stared at you as you walked in the building and got situated in your seat around a few people from your middle school.
You weren't really friends with any of them, except for one stern face that stuck out to you the most- Tenya Ida.
You both went to Somei private academy while Shoto was homeschooled.
You both had a fair acquaintance, but you never talked outside of school.
You're glad you didn't- he seemed like a stick up the ass.
Looking around at the other examinees, you noticed that cute curly haired, plain-faced quirkless boy you met a few weeks ago. You wondered if he recognized you.
When he noticed you looking at him, his face flushed a bright red as his hand came up to wave at you shyly.
You didn't realize you were staring so as he caught you, your face was slightly flushed.
You raised your hand to wave back, before you were interrupted by a loud, booming voice.
"What's up, U.A Candidates!? Thanks for tunin' to me, your school DJ. C'mon , let me hear ya!"
Silence.
"Keeping it mellow, huh? That's fine, I'll skip straight to the main show."
You zoned out and focused on your picture on your I.D. card. You hated it. You looked too much like your father.
I hope Shoto is doing okay...
"-Hero, Present Mic! So cool! I listen to his radio show every day of the week! It's so crazy nuts that all the UA teachers are pro heroes-"
"Will you shut up?"
You heard from behind you. You snapped out of your daze to see the green haired boy flustered before he muttered an apology.
A minute later, you returned to reality to hear Ida, who was a few seats down from you, point behind him to...the green haired boy.
"-you, with the unkempt hair."
"Huh?"
"You've been muttering this entire time. Stop that. If you can't bother to take this seriously, leave. You're distracting the rest of us," he said before turning around again.
"Sorry," the boy muttered again as some of the students laughed.
He wasn't distracting me. But, to be honest, I think I was too busy distracting myself...
"All right, All right. Examinee number 7-1-1-1. Thanks for calling in the request. The fourth villain type is worth zero points. That guy's just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way. There's one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle you should try to avoid. It's not that it can't be beaten, but there's...kinda no point. I recommend my listeners try to ignore it and focus on the ones toppin' the charts."
Oh dear God. You didn't want to do that much work.
"Thank you very much, please continue." Ida said.
"That's all I got for you today. I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto! As General Napoleon Bonaparte once laid down. "A true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes." Mm‐hm. Now that's a tasty soundbite. You ready to go beyond? Let's hear a Plus Ultra!"
Silence again.
Present Mic cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Good luck! Hope you practiced hitting more than just books..."
You stood at the starting line, waiting for the que.
This is it.
This is where you decide what your future will look like.
The recommendation exam went by quickly and easily for Shoto. He had gotten second place behind a guy who declined the U.A. invite anyways.
Why the hell did that guy even go to the exam in the first place? To show off that he could beat us anyways? To show off his quirk?
God, he hated when people did that.
Showing off your quirk is like a smack to the face of those who are weak or even quirkless. Now, Shoto didn't know anyone who was either of those things. His whole family all inherited quite the strong quirks. Maybe not Fuyumi, but she didn't even want to go to hero school, anyway. That's besides the point, though. Shoto knew that many people envied his father and his power. He was the number two hero, of course he was strong. But sometimes it felt like he was just showing off to become flashier than All Might.
Shoto wished he had never gotten his quirk and oftentimes wished that he was never born. It was sad, yes. But was it true? Y/n always reassured him that it wasn't, that it was just the exhaustion from training talking.
But he didn't think so. He thought that if he was never born, he wouldn't have to go through this rigorous training only to try and achieve something that was so far out of reach it was only dreamable.
But, he thought again. If he were never born, who would the training fall onto? Would his father continue to abuse his mother, harder and more often if he weren't born? Would his father give up and train Y/n in the way he trained him?
If you asked him, Y/n was his favorite sibling. Was it because they were twins? Probably. But a lot of twins hated each other, so that was inconclusive. It was because she listened. She listened to what he said, held on tightly to every word and processed them, imputing her own thoughts here and there. But she let him speak. Vent. It was such a nice change of pace and Shoto wished he had gone up there sooner.
He didn't want any more members of his family to suffer.
So, he dealt with it.
At times he felt bad for his sister. He guessed that as much as he didn't want any of his father's attention anymore, that Y/n felt the exact opposite.
Why would anyone want to be neglected?
Shoto wanted so badly to be neglected at this point. He was a teenager, for fuck's sake.
Why did all of this shitty training have only EVERYTHING to do with his quirk?
If you gave Shoto a notebook and pencil and told him to write his feelings on quirks, he would fill the notebook with words of distaste and hate for them.
He wished that they never even popped up.
This is what Shoto thought,
Do you have a strong quirk? Good for you. Want a cookie? You have a weak quirk? Cool, I guess. At least you don't have to stand in the blinding spotlight like those other freaks. You were quirkless? Congratulations, you are the luckiest person in the world! Not only are you not in the spotlight but you're barely recognized at all! Introvert 2.0! (NOT sarcasm.)
What the hero society thought was way different.
If you have a strong, flashy quirk, you'll be recognized and receive awards and climb your way up the hero/ popularity ranks!
If you have a weak quirk, then you can just be a sidekick or work at a lower-grade agency as an apprentice.
Quirkless? A bunch of nobody's who managed to slip past their parents' quirk genes and are completely ignored and bullied their whole life.
Shoto remembers Y/n saying that she met a quirkless boy once.
She described him as...what was it again? Broccoli? Cabbage?
She said she wished she was him. That she had been the one born quirkless.
Maybe father would've put her out of her misery and never talked to her in the first place.
Shoto can hear her crying in her room at night to herself.
He wants to comfort her, he really does. But he knows he can't.
He loves his sister to pieces but he knows he doesn't know what to say or do to comfort her.
He also knows that it's not his place to comfort her when he knows full well that she wants the kind of attention Shoto gets from her father.
To be recognized.
Shoto sent her off with the biggest smile he could muster (which wasn't very big) as she made her way to the U.A. entrance exam to get into the hero course.
He knew she would come home and tell him all about how she passed it with flying colors.
He'd be home and waiting for her on the roof with two bowls of cold soba and the moon.
The moon. Boy did you love the moon. You thought of it as your friend. Real friends; they come and go but this one- it's been with you for as long as you can remember.
After Shoto's quirk manifested, you made it a habit to climb out of your window and climb up to the roof. You talked to the moon, and sometimes it felt like it talked back in it's own, weird way.
You never needed your own friends. Sure, you hung out with Touya and his friends sometimes out in the courtyard, but that was when he was still- around. Now that he was gone, you had no one to talk to.
Especially with your father who took away your brother and any form of sanity you had left.
Your mother hated you. At least, it seemed like she did. Whenever she looked into your eyes hers were filled with disgust, maybe even distrust. She didn't trust you the second you got your quirk. You never understood why. Maybe it's because the blue in your eyes that belonged toy uor father got more vibrant that day, or when you all realized it wasn't either of your parent's quirks that you got, but your grandmother's.
You still remember that day as if it was yesterday.

"Daddy, look! I got my quirk!" Your five year old self ran happily around the house looking for your father, who was probably training Shoto.
Enji came out of the training room, eyebrows furrowed, looking for the girl.
"Y/n, here child. Let me see."
You ran up to him and consentrated real hard- you held your hand out and a small fountain of water appeared. Water? Seriously?
Enji's eyes dulled for a moment. He sighed a heavy sigh.
"To your room, now."
"But Da-"
"Now!"
You begrudgingly made your way up to your room.
What had you done wrong? Did you accidentally spray him in the face?

No. But you wished you would have.
As the days went on, your quirk began to grow stronger.
When your father wasn't home, you practiced shooting the targets in the training room. There were scorch marks all over the floor and walls anyways, so you didn't bother cleaning up the water you left behind and blamed it on Shoto's melted ice.
At night, you would hear your father yelling at Shoto.
"Your quirk needs to be stronger!"
"Stop crying you damn baby!"
"Use them both, Shoto!"
It wasn't muffled at all. The training room was right under your room.
So your new escape was the roof.
Every night you'd climb up there and talk to the moon.
It was your new best friend.
It was there for you that night you got your quirk.
It was there for you the night after your first day of middle school.
It was there for you the night you got called a freak for your red hair with white tips.
It was there for you the night you decided to go against your father's wishes and apply for U.A.
One night, you heard creaking and footsteps towards your window.
Had he found your spot? Were you in trouble? Was he going to hit you?
It wouldn't have been the first time. He started hitting you once you turned about 12. He thought you could take it; you were almost an adult for Pete's sake. You could take a couple punches.
You saw a hand peek over the side of the roof. It was smaller than your father's hand.
When the whole arm came up and he pulled himself up and onto the roof, you saw that it was Shoto.
He didn't look surprised to see you there.
"Hey Y/n."
"Hey Shoto."
He settled in next to you with a blank expression. You both looked up and watched the moon together. You stayed up there for hours as you leaned your head on your twin brother's shoulder.
The next couple of times he did this, he would start to talk to you about his day. Then you would talk about yours.
Then you realized, if the moon didn't exist, you wouldn't be out on the roof every night.
If you hadn't always come up to look at the moon, Shoto probably wouldn't have made the effort to talk to you anymore. He didn't have the time- at least, that's what his father told him.
So every night, you made a promise to yourself and the moon.
You would always be there for your brother. Your brother had made the same promise.
He would always be there for you.
Shoto was your moon from then on.
And you couldn't be more thankful.

You leant comfortably back on the bean bag in your boyfriend's bedroom, a magazine in hand, and Muloo, your kwami, tucked soundlessly into your shoulder.
A black figure leaped in from the open window, and you dont even look up to see who it may be.
He releases a groan, his ring beeping and automatically detransforming him into his civilian self.
Adrien plops onto his bed face first, before releasing yet another groan, this time, louder, but condensed by the sheets of his bed.
"Adrien, sweetie...you okay?" You set your magazine down as Muloo and Plagg take a dive into a cabinet of cheese, leaving the two of you alone.
A cacophony of incoherent words.
"Im sorry, what was that?" You tease amd he lifts his head up to shoot you a look.
You giggle. "Oh come on, it was just Mr Bird again! It shouldve been easy this time!" You smile, stepping towards the bed and taking a seat, rubbing your hand through his tousled blonde hair.
"Its Mr. Pigeon, and yes, it was easy. But thats just the point! Hawkmoth has been running out of ideas, akumatizing the same people over and over! Wheres the excitment, the anticipation? The need to call for help from other heroes on the team...?" He finishes sheepishly, sending a look to your miraculous.
Your eyes roll involuntairly. "Oh please, Adrien. Lile you need me anyway."
He gasps, sitting up. "Dont speak that way! We need you, its just...things have been rather...drab, lately. Im sure a little Mousie-action would...liven it up a little!" He smiles and you pat his cheek.

"Oh, youll do it now that your little girl crush stepped up first? How sweet-" jax closes his eyes with a fake smile, bracing for impact.
