Thinking about that time I posted a poll asking people if they thought it would be neat to witness something like a tornado/earthquake/etc. presuming it happened in a way that nobody got hurt and it produced minimal property damage, like hypothetically speaking, and my note were full of people telling me how actually tornadoes and earthquakes are bad and hurt people and cause significant property damage so how could i even say such a thing is neat??
and that just feels like an encapsulation of tumblr on a small scale
one of these people was from Brazil and was very upset that I could have posted this while terrible things were happening in Brazil, how could you say such a thing, Americans are SO fucking selfish
and went i went to her blog to block her because i don't have time for this, she was posting about spending thousands of dollars on plane tickets to go to multiple Taylor Swift concerts
and that also feels like an encapsulation of tumblr on a small scale
I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.
Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.
#yes! cynicism reads as very juvenile to me#and yes prev often stemming from teen pain
Yeah, like I see black-pilled people on here and my default reaction isn't "oh, these must be world-weary old warriors who've lost their faith in humanity", it's "these people are in their 20s and need a hobby"
I also think that the present era has proven that authoritarian leaders don't actually want a population of wide-eyed idealists, they want a population of jaded assholes who are convinced that everyone is lying, any resistance is either a scam or doomed to failure, and nothing can ever get better.

The way white people on Tumblr invoke Malcolm X—a real person whose opinions we can actually consult—is not different than their parents “quoting” MLK Jr every time they want to justify their own racism
I mean it’s no accident that so many Black writers back in the day talked about how their dalliances with white “progressives” were found very wanting.
being condescending about those who don’t remember Obama’s terms in office while not knowing that that republicans had uninterrupted control of the house from 2011-2019 and of the senate from 2015-2021… the trifecta only lasted for two years babe and that’s how we got the ACA. also Mitch McConnell refusing to allow a confirmation hearing on Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to fill Scalia’s seat was in the news every single day of those 9 months and then it was in the news again for MONTHS in 2020 after RBG died and McConnell RUSHED to confirm Trump’s lackey to the bench despite the election being less than a month away and his alleged rational for delaying Obama’s nominee in 2016 was that it was an election year.
you clowns are always so proud to put your ignorance on full display

Weird how the guys who fluffed up a chud with a Nazi tattoo can't stop attacking Black Democrats and refuse to talk about the VRA being gutted.
It is not nearly common enough knowledge that most Native tribes in the U.S. don't actually own all of the land within their reservation. There are millions of acres of reservation land that tribes don't legally own and they have no control over how that land is used. Like, there are a lot of different concepts tied in with the land back movement, but a major one is literally just getting reservation land back into tribal ownership.

A Conversation with Joe Sutphin

This past Saturday was the anniversary of the birth of Richard Adams, author of Story Warren favorite title, Watership Down. Many of you may know that our friend Joe Sutphin published a graphic novel version of this book back in 2023. We asked our own intrepid illustrator, Zach Franzen, to ask Joe a few questions about the project. Read to the end to find out what classic Joe is working on now!
Also while we're all talking about anti-racism, here's a helpful tip:
Performative self-flagellation over being white is not a substitute for doing serious introspection about the ways you have been complicit in or rewarded by a white-supremacist society, nor doing the work to dismantle white supremacy.
A white person chiming in to a conversation about racism to say "I'm sorry for being white" or "white people suck, I say this as a white person" is just a masturbatory way to try to assuage your own feelings of shame without actually doing anything. It doesn't make you look like "one of the good ones." It makes you look like someone who centers your own feelings about it.
