WEEK 9: FINDING INSPIRATIONS(Deconstructing book design)

For what the space was, it was quite an amazing feat that the designers were able to transform a mere corridor into a rather captivating exhibition space. The exhibits within this space, highlighted on the deconstruction of book design.

Once you enter, there are so many interesting touchpoints for you to encounter. Every white space is envisioned as a canvas and craftfully painted on with exhibits and decor. Even the floor had famous and inspirational quotes on the subject matter. 

after this experience, my perspective on interior design got reinvigorated again and I had sought to re-evaluate our current interior design see where I could incorporate some the ideas used in this exhibiton.

WEEK 9: FINDING INSPIRATIONS: UNLIMITED --130316 to 190316--

This week was the aftermath of the Open House so we kicked right back into full gear for our Grad Show. This period was also Design Week so I and a few friends made it a point to visit some of the exhibitions and study the production as well as the ambience.

The first of several was the a partnership open house exhibition between Unlimited and the students of SP. Unlimited are an events production company that cardboard to create whatever product the client requires i.e booths, panel boards etc.

After a walk through the open house, I concluded that Unlimited could potentially be a strong option for our Grad show.

WEEK 8: THE VISITOR

Neil was in town and he had some time to spare so we had a quick meeting where we finally confirmed the logo and discussed further on the collaterals and several minor issues. He also had a look at the layout of the Open House exhibition above and advised us on aesthetics, look and quality control.

WEEK 8: A LITTLE COMPLETION

Here are some images on the final look of the little exhibiton room. Executing this open house exhibition room, was a real test of our efficiency and ability as a whole. Although there were several roadblocks along the way, ultimately the Show Design department was able to step up to the challenge, surpass them and deliver  a commendable effort. It was a big success for us!

WEEK 8: TRIAL BY FIRE -060316 to 120316-

This entire week was the last before the Open House on the 11th and 12th. So the show department had to execute the decor we had planned out. We had to tasks: 

Decorating the walls with our poster work and tape line art.

Set the ‘lounge table’ and place more of our works.

As the IC of Show Design for T02, I helped to draw out and advise the composition of the posters and what decor to tape on to.

WEEK 7: INCHING FORWARD TO THE INCH

The beginning of the preparation for the Open House marked the end of this week. We had previously planned how to construct and pull in our resources for the collaterals and this Friday we started the execute the designs.

I helped to collect a luggage prop needed and also helped made a few props for the luggage.

WEEK 7: PREPPING -280216 to 050316-

During this entire week, many different departments were outsourcing for equipment and props to dress the open house. 

The first picture showed me and several other members contacting with a convenience store to collect their card boxes to create luggage decor. (of course we collected more than 1 box)

The second and third picture shows a the logistics team testing out the layout and what fabrics to use. As well as experimenting with tape to create elaborate frames around our poster works on the wall.

The fourth and fifth picture is a contact card of Kingsmen, a communication design and production company that I and a few others were able to get a hold of. This contact could be an option to help create our booths.

WEEK 6: CONVERGENCE

The week ended with another skype discussion with Neal and he gave some final feedback over the logo and branding for us to finalise on. 

Once that was done, several members from logistics, show design and publicity had another meeting to go through the construction and design of the 5.09.b room for SIM Open House. Many topics were discussed over this little meeting e.g. decor construction, logistical constrainst and portfolio display.

WEEK 6: FINDING INSPIRATIONS- ORCHARD LIBRARY

During the week, several of us chanced upon a small little booth setup in Orchard Library. Once we saw it we felt it could be a possible platform to display our works. The built-in lighting was good the proportions seemed right although we have yet to consider the price of these vertical booths. There also small tall boxes that work as tables for display.

Be that as it may, this is a good option.

WEEK 6: OPEN HOUSE PREPARATIONS & FLOOR PLANNING

As open house inches closer, several of the committee members deliberated over the layout of the open house exhibition. The idea was to create a hotel front table/ lounge as an introduction to our Grad show. 

Show Design created the floorplan and design while logistics team helped with the technicalities of making the design possible.

Aside from the open house preparations, I also had to draft up several options for the interior design of our Grad Show in the TWC floorplan. With the help of Pamela, who has background in the discipline, I drafted several versions.

WEEK 5: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

On that Friday of the week, we had a meeting to scout locations with several other departments. The list of venues we had planned to see was Centre42, National Design Centre and the Red Dot. I wasn’t able to make it to see the Red Dot but not for the first two.

WEEK 5: CONVERSATIONS.

This same week, we met up on the friday and I gave a brief checklist and suggested certain departments & jobscopes within show design so that the manpower would get compartmentalised better according to skill and experience.

We also were given the art direction mood board by the publicity department and so we can start conceptualising the space share our opinions the next week.

WEEK 5: WORKSHOP DEVELOPMENT -140216 to 200216-

After a week of new year celebrations, the next week we were back into discussing over the minor details for Show design. This conversation here, I gave some input on how to start with the  planning and thinking of how to design the space.

WEEK 4: PERCEPTION

That very week we also had a lesson with Ai Khim to create some mood boards and inspirations for the grad show and also for the creative departments to take reference from. There were many varying styles for them to bounce off and gain a new take or angle with. 

Many of our classmates have different ideas of how grad show would look like so it is good to present what’s in our mind so that the creative teams can take into consideration and not actually use all of it but generate something universal but also personal in design.

Tumblr is like a honey comb. Full of sweet and tasty material, but you just need to find it. Since this was CNY celebrations week, I took to Tumblr to reaearch on relevant materials.

WEEK 3: ADVISORY -310116 to 060216-

We held a video conference with Neal and Suzie to discuss over several topics. From the choices of location to the rough schedule planned out for each department we deliberated over what was necessary or redundant for them.
