Way back Wednesday! Another shot from a shoot I did back in 2010. This was the day after competing in the 2010 West Texas Classic. I started doing some impromptu poses I’d remembered seeing in a @kevinlevrone shoot. Ok, so I’m not Kevin but the pic looked pretty cool. It’s all about having fun with it! Is there a possibility or classic physique here? Hmm? Doing my normal 3 AM Cardio. I was scrolling through my archives of pictures, and came across this. This is a shoot I did with Jeff @jeffphotographermaster after 2012 NPC Nationals. It wasn’t one of my best showings, but I sure like the pictures. Flashback Friday about 8 weeks out from the 2007 NPC Junior USA where I placed 2nd in the super heavy weights. I was around 242lbs here. Check out the legs. They were just under 29” there. How do you get big developed legs? High intensity,maximum effort,Perfect execution, no set under 20 reps, consistency with the diet, and dedication to the craft. There’s no secret to this. Throwing it way back to 2010 NPC Nationals. That smile, and confidence on my face, is because I know,I deserved to be there. I earned the right to stand amongst these great competitors. The consistency, determination, dedication I put in every day to get there developed a national quality physique. I’d “paid my dues”, a phrase not heard used much these days. Both of the guys standing behind me, and many in other classes went on to earn their pro cards. And have done well in the pro ranks. Its always exciting to be on stage, to compare myself to the best out there. It’s a great measuring stick of progress. This kept pushing me to go harder and further, that I had more work to do. Are you willing to pay the price to achieve your goals?
For the LOVE of the game!! The gym and everything that came with it. Saved my life. It’s part of every fiber that has made me who I am. It’s been almost three years since I was on stage, my present conditioning, I still eat like I’m prepping for contest, because I don’t need a looming date or deadline to wanna maintain a healthy weight and low body fat level. For me I’m winning everyday that I can look in the mirror and be happy with what I see. These days I don’t have trophies to tell me how good I am, my health, and my body are the trophy. I believe the saying is. “Shows are won and lost from the back.” First posing session. It’s confusing, awkward, and taxing. But practiced, and executed perfectly daily to a flawless polished display makes all the difference on stage. Nothing worse than seeing a competitor with an awesome physique on stage lacking the ability to show off all the hard work they’ve put in. One of my hardest working clients/competitors Jason Mongiello posing at the Iron Barn five weeks out from the NPC Greater Gulf States. This being his first time stepping on stage, it will be an awesome experience for him. After years of watching bodybuilding, reading and learning about it, he’s built quite the physique. At 43 the man has some serious muscle maturity. Standing a towering 5’4 and weighing a massive 178lbs I feel sorry for the taller guys in the middle weight class. Going to be fun dialing in deeper separation, and conditioning as the show draws closer. Everybody talks about what they want? Everybody wants something. Some people decide momentarily, or impulsively that they want to try something they’ve never done before. I hear people talking about wanting to take control their finances, changing their fitness level, improving their academic, and self education. The real question is not about what you “want”, it’s what you’re willing to “give up?” Are you willing to give up variety in your diet, are you willing to give up alcohol, are you willing to give up outings with your friends, time with family and people you care for, and love for a brief three, six, nine, twelve months to change and accomplish the “want”?
