MASTER LIST | Requests are CLOSED! | I will NOT do NSFW headcannons. | This blog is dedicated purely to BSD. Hello! My name is Sofie (AKA Blank), and I hope you enjoy what you read! Feel free to chat to me if you’d like and send requests. (Main account: @blankedwriting)
Hello everyone! 4 months ago, I released a popularity poll out of curiosity to see the general consensus. I will likely do this again in the future with more characters being introduced and more development. It was a lot of fun!
I also made some predictions to the ordering as well if you choose to read onwards, along with some commentary.

2nd: Chuya Nakahara (with 166 votes)
1st: Osamu Dazai (is there any surprise?) (with 180 votes)
Here are my predictions from before starting this poll. Tell me how you think I did!
Osamu Dazai
Chuya Nakahara - Both 1st and 2nd place couldn’t be any other two, I’m aware of just how popular they are.
Ranpo Edogawa
Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Doppo Kunikida
Akiko Yosano - I most certainly overshot her... She’s a strong character, bit crazy and is one of the most prominent female.
Oda Sakunosuke - And him... But he’s such a beautiful human...
Edgar Allan Poe - I don’t think I was far off. I know who the fangirls like!
Louisa Alcott - Nevermind… Okay, she’s adorable and cute and I thought she’d get at least ONE vote. I have a feeling that she is universally loved, but other characters outshine hers, hence why she isn’t on the board.
Nikolai Gogol - Ayy! I know what the fangirls like!
Ryunosuke Akutagawa - Dammit...
Atsushi Nakajima - I really undershot with these two... Despite them both being main characters, I didn’t think they were more iconic than other characters and what happened with Louisa Alcott I predicted would happen to these two instead. Thought wrong...
Kyouka Izumi - I FORGOT HOW MUCH OF AN ADORABLE SNOWFLAKE SHE IS. I didn’t see that fandom mention her much compared to other characters and undershot.
Kenji Miyazawa - I thought he would get more votes, but I feel like the lack of his mentioning in recent chapters paired with his lack of appearance played a large role. He’s acknowledged as the sunshine of the cast, but at the end of the day, is not really developed.
Lucy Maud Montgomery
Ougai Mori - You’ll see that I got the leader trio pretty well- apart from Mori. This one still honestly perplexes me...
Ichiyo Higuchi - She’s a badass! A cute badass!
Yukichi Fukuzawa
Junichirou Tanizaki - He had more fangirls than I expected...
Francis Fitzgerald
Nathaniel Hawthorne - He had less fangirls than I expected...
Gin Akutagawa - Looking back, I feel like I mixed up Higuchi and Gin’s ranking
Koyo Ozaki - She’s a queen. But again, same thing I feel like that happened with Alcott
Michizo Tachihara
Katai Tayama
John Steinbeck - More beloved than anticipated. But who can resist a guy in a suit?
Sigma - LOOK I MESSED UP! He deserves all the love in the world. (I feel like this was partly due to recent manga events tho)
Any Hunting Dogs member - Personal bias may have played a part... I honestly hate all of them apart from the strange loli girl and [redacted due to spoilers]
Ryoru Hirotsu - Ya gotta admit, the guy has style
Naomi Tanizaki - At this point, I expected no one to get any votes.
Mark Twain - I was surpised. Fuck boi has fangirls. (I should not be calling him a fuck boi in this case… please don’t attack meeee)
H.P. Lovecraft - Okay- I personally love him. And I’m glad so many other people love him too.
October 6 ~
In celebration of BSD Season 2 Airing Anniversary
Can you believe that? It’s been a year since the first episode of the last season aired. It aired on October 5, 25:05 which was basically October 6, 1:05 AM.
Anyway, feel free to join this challenge and here are some things to keep in mind:
You don’t necessarily have to do it for 30 consecutive days.
RL can get busy so it’s totally okay to do day 8 today then do day 9 three days after. The BSD airing celebration can last until December anyway.
Using official arts/screenshots/manga caps is encouraged but if you want to use fan arts/edits, don’t forget to give credit to the OP.
Since it’s been 1 month, I decided to release this! And it looked like fun.
I mistook BSD for Gintama SOMEHOW (since I wanted to watch a comedy that enjoys breaking the fourth wall. Then I got a bit hooked with the detective work and then Fitzy came in and I just thought WAIT WHAT?! And learned everyone was based off of real authors and my appreciation skyrocketed out of the atmosphere. I’m so happy I fell down this rabbit hole.
I calculated this using my ranking list from my last non-writing post. The ADA is my most favourite (no surprise there!) followed by the Mafia and the Guild.
Doppo Poetry - it is unbelievably useful. Forget my pen? My keys? Need some change? No more worries!
Cannibalism (Part One) [3.10] - This is one of my most favourite seasons, and this episode took us right to what I love - the strategy. Ranpo riling Chuya up was such a highlight. I’m pretty sure the next OVA (Mushitarou’s introduction most likely) and season 4 will make things so much better.
Hunting Dogs (Part two) [60] - It’s like the calm before the storm. Kenji is such a ray of sunshine, and I love seeing Kuni stand back up after breaking down.
Favourite male character: Doppo Kunikida
Favourite female character: Akiko Yosano
OP: Reason Living by SCREEN MODE (2) / ED: Lily by Luck Life (3)
Ranpo or Chuya (I CANNOT CHOOSE OKAY) I would genuinely listen to all songs on a regular basis tho
Gide and Q.
Chuya x Dazai, and Atsushi x Lucy
I know there are some failings, especially in the anime, but the manga is so good. I love the lore, how everyone is based off an author...
The first one (I love my ADA members)
Volume 14 or 15. This was Asagiri’s golden era for manga covers.
Favourite arc: Cannabilism.
Hourglass manga chapter cover
N/A
Prob something on Shara’s blog ( @straycat-writes )
DON’T LET ME CHOOSE! I will make a post covering all of my most favourite BSD blogs. As of right now, I’m too young to tumblr, so I’d refrain from my opinions.
I have no merch rn ;-; I have been looking at keychains, and I will be recreating my husbando’s notebook, so look out for that post!
Kunikida. Seriously. I am the complete opposite of this character in every way, and his overly obsessiveness made me think ‘Pfft. Like hell will I ever like this character, forget him be my BSD crush.’ Was I WRONG. It wasn’t until the end of season 2 after his OVA that I thought his character was interesting. Then I read a blog(1) discussing his character traits that cropped up in the manga (this is the biggest factor that lead me to picking the manga up), and before I knew it, I was in love with this character. (It also helps the IRL author was a romantic poet, since I have I huge bias towards them. Except Byron...)
“Wealth is a nightmare. With each thing we buy, we lose a thing we dream about.” - Francis Scott Fitzgerald
NOT ENOUGH KUNIKIDA! Jk, jk. I really enjoyed Dead Apple. A bit too much screaming for my liking... But other than that, good premise! Have watched 3 times now since its release.
Just check out my blog! My most prized work is the Anti-Dazai Alliance. I also have a Quotev (@blankwriting) where I make original BSD characters and more.
Apparently it is Motojiro Kajii?
I WONDER WHO HER MOST FAVOURITE ADA MEMBER IS? HOW COULD ANYONE POSSIBLY GUESS?
Look to 26 for favourite Guild member
Open letter to Asagiri: please for the love of all that is holy. GIVE HIROTSU MORE DEVELOPMENT! AND TELL YOUR TRANSLATOR TO WORK QUICKER I’M DYING HERE! (Also love your work!) | Open letter to Bones: when is my man Ranpo getting his OVA? You’re doing decently I guess. Keep doing what you’re doing.
I relate to Dazai the most. Obvs.
All I can say is I am grateful for the existence of Bungou Stray Dogs, as it has not only enhanced my enjoyment of literature here, but has broadened my enjoyment to Japan. Thank you to every single one of you BSD writers and bloggers on this site, as you all add so much more to the world that makes every second worth being a part of this fandom. Every single aspect of BSD is so much fun, and I cannot wait to see where the story will go next.
Hi! I'm new to your blog and just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your writing! It's just so easy-flowing and beautiful 💖 And if you're still doing the seasonal aesthetics, could I please get one for Chuuya with autumn?
Thank you so much ;-;
She giggled, her hand balled up in front of her mouth in a coy gesture, moving to her temple to protect the harsh wind from hitting her face. Feeling the gust now blowing his hair to catch his eyeline, the realisation struck as he watched his hat blow off into the busy road.
A lorry drove by, completely crushing the fabric material into no more than a flattened disk, trying to push itself back into position like memory foam. Picking it up, he cursed the weather under with breath as he dusted the object off and tried to salvage what he could of the situation. The maroon silk folded back into a wrinkled mess around a hemmed peach ribbon, black velvet pouring out of the headspace, only just latching on.
“I’ll buy you a new one. There are always sales on around this time...” Y/n smiled, ruffling his hair up, “So don’t be so upset.” A huff escaping him, he threw it like a frisbee to the floor, glancing back to his girlfriend as she laced her fingers into his other hand, that fist now relaxing against her smooth skin.
“Yeah yeah...” He spoke, smoothing his hair back, keeping the gloves leather on his forehead lingering to stop the throbbing sensation that came with losing a piece of sentimentality.
***
“This will be your new partner. Y/n L/n, please.” Mori gestured for her to step forward. Flecks of gold danced off of stray strands of hair as light was reflected from the sun. A cheery smile, almost infectious seemed to grow more intent on forming an impression as her coat, so large it looked like it would drop from her shoulders, swayed with torso as it turned.
“I see you’ve found someone to replace Dazai.”
Heading out of the office with taps of his soles diffracting from him, they moulded into another’s as they followed in suit. Feeling a breeze suddenly hit his temples and sweep through his hair, he looked back to see the same smiling face now filled with an emotion he never could picture.
“I’m not replacing anyone Mr. Nakahara.” She spoke, her tone blunt. That same smile was brought to her features as she threw the hat back to him. “Got that!” An aroma of dahlia caught his nose as she fluttered in front.
***
“You could never replace him.”
“Hm?” Confusion took place in her mind as she tried to think of what event he could be leading off of.
“You’re your own person with your own mind, good and bad.” A pout he received made him rethink that last clause. “Mostly good. Just because you fit within another’s role doesn’t mean you are that person, nor should you be compared.”
What surprised her was the hug she received. Her hands went up to wrap around his neck, more scorching than any scarf, but so much more gentle.
“Besides, it would be unfair to compare anyone to you.”
Most characters are writers from the early 20th century, and soon Asagiri will likely include British writers. If you don’t get where I’m going with this?
George. Fucking. Orwell.
If he is in the BSD world, his ability would likely tie into the Eyes of God (linked to his book 1984).
Agatha Christie May be using this to gain a better understanding of the other organisations. She even stated how much burning cities accompanied her tea from all the way in Britain. How would she know this?
(This is a personal theory, I have not stolen this from anyone)
EDIT: Make sure to use the desktop version! It won’t work on mobile Tumblr!
@akutagawaprize has this link on their Tumblr so I thought I’d try it out.
Basically, they ask you which characters you prefer out of a set of two characters. You pick one or the other or you pick “Both” or “No opinion”. It’s a whole lot of fun, and the results are pretty accurate!
You can post the whole Top 25 but I’ll just put my Top 13! I kind of clicked the wrong one a few times which may or may not have tampered with my results (nothing on the quiz part, I’m just stupid sometimes… or all the time). Actually, I tried doing it twice, and these numbers are pretty interchangeable (but Kyouka always ends up on top). This is still the general shape though.
🌎 - Where would they want to go for their honeymoon?
The question isn’t where they would want to go. It’s where wouldn’t they want to go. Fitzgerald would likely plan out the countries across the globe, having his s/o pick out specific tourist sights you had particularly had an eye on. By the end of it all, the honeymoon would last an entire year, spanning across over 60 countries. Of course there’d be the small issue of the Guild, so there may be a couple of interruptions from time to time.
😘 - Would they love to admit you two are married or would they be hesitant?
If this were his first marriage: nope. Fitzgerald would never hesitate if it ever came up in conversation (which it likely would).
But this isn’t.
Fitzgerald has safety your the back of his mind, remembering the state of his last wife for so long before her eventual passing. He’d think for a few minutes, considering if the person he was conversing to was strong and had good morality before mentioning it.
🌎 - Where would they want to go for their honeymoon?
Most likely England. This is for the beautiful Victorian scenery, along with the countrysides. It’ll give him a chance to really get into roleplay of historic settings without it seeming too weird. Getting a good amount of inspiration for his work, along with an extremely romantic setting is a win for everyone!
😘 - Would they love to admit you two are married or would they be hesitant?
As introverted as Poe is, he is living to tell of his newly wedded life. Imagining the look of his senpai Ranpo’s face when he tells him he finally married you puts such a large grin on his face. He did get rather jealous and competitive at times, especially when comparing himself to other men, so through the progression of the relationship to finally marry his dream s/o slowly lifted so many lingering doubts he had. In the fullness of time, he was determined he’d marry you.
B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?
Their expressions. Even if their s/o covers up their sadness through their smile, the curvature of their eyebrows never lie. He appreciates it if they try to cover up their emotions for his sake, the consideration they have towards him. It enables him to go above and beyond for them in just as much return when cheering them up. But the greatest thing, when they’re happy, their face just radiates, as infectious as a laugh.
D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Growing old in a little cottage in Izu Oshima, fishing his days a- hahaha. Nope. Truth be told, he never imagined a future with someone he loved beyond... well... double suicide. After leaving the idea behind for the good of s/o, he never thinks too heavily about the future, always being a guy who goes with the flow, following wherever the amusement takes him. The only thing he thinks about is spending the rest of his life with his s/o, his ideas of good and bad latching onto them. Their rhapsody is the only dream he really needs.
I took half an hour (or longer) making this. I don’t have time for anything else because I have an appointment. Again, happy birthday Kunikida-sensei! He’s amazing, smart, idealistic, and diligent, and he’s played by the wonderful Yoshimasa Hosoya. Happy birthday you gullible megane sensei!
