What should I draw for pride
Uncomfortable conversation in the spirit world!
whatre they cheesing all that big for
this is such a weirdly specific ask and the details are honestly so small i won’t mind if u ignore this ask/just can’t provide an answer entirely but i was wondering what kind of armor the middle avatar in that earth avatar mural that lights up when aang first goes into the avatar state is wearing? if u know what im talking about?? if not its no bother tysm!!
Cultural Fashion: Earth Avatar Mural Woman
Let me just say that this is my favorite piece of in-universe art in Avatar. I love everything about it: The color palette, the symbolism of Kyoshi standing on two pillars of earth, the two earth avatars in the background doing their best JoJo poses, and the mystique of it all. Kyoshi is an Avatar who literally split open the earth to create an island named after her and lived to be over 200 years old, but somehow she's not the star of this mural? Just what the heck did the center lady do to be depicted as being akin to the sun itself?
Anyways, she looks to be wearing Qin Dynasty (221–206 BCE) lamellar armor. Lamellar armor is armor that's composed of overlapping plates of metal, leather, or bone that give the wearer a "scaly" look. The spaulders resembling a little shawl or capelet reminds me the most of Qin armor, the dynasty that gave us the terracotta warrior statues. Qin Dynasty warriors also wore dress-like robes and tucked-in scarves around the neck under their armor. Finally, she's wearing a little topknot crown, known in Chinese as a guan (冠) or xiaoguan (小冠). Pretty much the only aspect of her design that strays from the terracotta warrior inspiration is her lack of boots, as she opts to go barefoot to better earthbend.
The Qin Dynasty was China's first imperial dynasty. Perhaps the center lady is the first ever earth avatar? It would explain why she looks to be shining rays of light on all her "successors". Plus, there's sort of a running theme in ATLA of revolutionary earthbenders being women: Oma, Kyoshi, and Toph.
I guess you could call them all... Mother Earth.
if only Gyatso had run away with Aang

happy pride month!!🏳️🌈
Hi friends!
I'm doing $2 pride icon commissions again this year! This year, proceeds are being split between Lambda Legal and the "It Gets Better" project again!
☀️ sunny afternoon with toph and badger ☀️
[ID: a digital illustration of Toph from Avatar: the Last Airbender in modern clothing with her guide dog Badger. Toph is wearing a white t-shirt and baggy green jogger pants, and she is barefoot. She sitting on the ground with one leg up to her chest and the other bent outwards with her foot touching Badger’s paw. She is leaning back on one hand behind Badger. With her other hand she is balancing a plastic cup of iced green tea on her knee. She has chin-length hair with bangs and one side shaved. She is wearing green sunglasses with green lenses. She is looking off to the side with her head tilted and a tiny smirk on her face.
Badger is lying down next to Toph. She is a German Shepherd with two black stripes in her fur on the top of her head, resembling a badger. She is wearing a white guide dog harness that matches Toph’s shirt. She has her ears up and an attentive expression on her face. She is looking in the same direction as Toph.
The background is a yellow watercolor oval behind Toph and Badger. There is a soft green shadow underneath them. End ID.]
Short comic based on this wonderful prompt by @marauders4evr : “Someone needs to make a beautiful comic where Aang’s struggling because Tenzin just became an airbending master but Aang has absolutely no idea how to actually tattoo the arrows because he was only twelve when his entire culture was wiped out, he had only just gotten his tattoos months before he ran away, he would have been far too young to learn the tradition from the side of the tattoo-giver and then said tradition was wiped out forever, so he’s crying as he tries his best, and then Yangchen appears and the Air Nomad Avatar before Yangchen appears and so on and so on, all the way back to the Avatar that came right after Wan, hundreds of Airbenders just sitting with Aang, patiently going over the techniques, cheering when Tenzin stands, bowing to the newest airbender, making sure the culture isn’t lost…”
they were just trying to cover their bases
Happy pride!
I've read a few recently published books, and there's this recurring pattern where if anyone does anything bad and interesting, they have to later talk about it in a way that makes it clear that it was a misunderstanding/ justified/ not their fault, so they're still a good person. and if they have a disagreement with another character, they have to therapy talk it out, regardless of their background. it doesn't matter if this is a street urchin with three teeth who just stabbed and kidnapped someone, you will get eloquent sterile therapy speak that will smooth out any possible emotional tension. and everyone asks for permission before they kiss, and waits for a clear enthusiastic yes. again, doesn't matter the character's background or situation, they will ask "can I please kiss you," because if they didn't, that could get all yucky and uncertain, couldn't it? and if a character is from a rich family, they will hate being in a rich family, and hate wealth signifiers, and actually be all for class equality. and everyone is casually queer, without thought being put into how that would mesh with the society that is being described. like yes, this is violent class-based system obsessed with inheritance, but no, it's not actually a problem that the child they've coldly groomed to take on the family mantle is unwilling to beget an heir because of gay. the parents might be terrible, cruel and fascistic, but they're not homophobic! I don't know, it just seems like EVERYTHING that could actually be messy gets sanded and sanded until it's smooth as a shark, but the Fun Violence is allowed to stay, because bloodshed doesn't actually bother anyone or have any consequence apart from your rogue character shrugging and going oops, was that me? the rogue is still a good person though. if you think they're not, just wait for the two solid pages of introspection. and yes they started the book by slitting two throats, but that was fine. they will ask permission before hugging you.
Recently read a 3some dubcon incest fic where the stoplight check-in was used. Girl. We are already way past sane and consensual. Why did you break me out of the story for that
Pixel post dividers for everyone! It's not much, but feel free to use them if you'd like. I don't know the ideal size for these, so let me know if they're too tall. I can make them a bit shorter next time.
Devotion.
