Theseus and The Minotaur
A scrapped illustration for Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1892).
My zine I made to sell for family campaigns I love how it came out
EVEN IF BROKEN I AM MORE THAN GLASS
Somewhat embarassing to admit but due to the fact that I have no artistic skill nor do I have enough drive to learn, I will go to those pages with dress up games and just. Go ham over blorbos / OCs.
The reason I think it's laughable is because most of these games are like not designed with actual character creation in mind, or at least not fully, so they will genuienly have me asking "if this character were a young medieval princess would and not a middle-aged chainsmoker would she wear a puffy dress with bows all over?"
And I have to cut so many things from the characters themselves too. There's usually arround three-to-five skin color swatches and the darkest ones are like not that dark usually, which complicates my visualization of the actual character. I'm lucky if I find one with like, different face shapes, much less one with multiple body sizes.
I don't want it to seem like I'm only complaining though. There are some fun aspects to it, because putting blorbos in different contexts helps develop your ideas on their personality / appearance. Also it's free, therefore extremely accessible (I'd argue way more accessible than any generative AI but hey some people are way too freaking lazy to put in any actual work and only want something to consume withouth having to go through the creative process) (Don't use generative AI ever please) (But specifically don't use it in art. And in fandom) (It's not ok)
(Spoilers for UTE)
Rick and Morty x Skulduggery Pleasant AU in which the Omen we know is not originally from the dimension we follow, and actually got dragged here after this dimension's Omen got killed when he got lost in the forest when he was four. In our Omen's home dimension, he was born after Auger had already fulfilled the prophecy, therefore he wasn't a direct side effect of Auger's birth and was actually wanted by his parents. Their family is really happy and everything is going well until someone (Emmeline's real father who ran off when she was young maybe?) attacks their home and kills their parents in an attempt to prove a point to the other Grandpa (the Rick figure in the story) that stepped into his role. Auger, Omen and their grandfather run into the forest together but get separated, with Omen being stuck in a fight between the man he believed to be his grandfather and his actual grandfather.
That's when the switch happens. Evil Grandpa shunts to another dimension with our Omen, Regular Grandpa follows, and the original Omen (the one from the universe we follow) is caught in the crossfire and dies.
Our Omen's original family is now presumably dead, and this dimension's Omen is also dead, so Regular Grandpa decides to bury the body somewhere in the family estate and delete our Omen's memories of his old home that would give away what actually happened, then resigns himself to only check in every few years since this dimension's Emmeline already has a father.
They only find out when looking through Omen's memories once he's older (already adventuring with Crepuscular). Omen always chalked up the differences in his and Auger's early childhood memories to age because who remembers exactly what happened so long ago? But then Crepuscular expresses worry about the huge gaps in Omen's memory, because it's normal for them to be fuzzy but there are chunks missing completely and it's obvious they've been tampered with.
Yada yada, they investigate and end up figuring it out, but Omen refuses to believe until he digs up the corpse of a four year old somewhat near his house (in the forest connected to their backyard).
Auger notices his mood deteriorate harshly, and ends up forcing the truth out of him after multiple fights. Now they are both grieving a family they don't remember, which drives a wedge between them since a) the brother Auger was actually born with has been dead for over a decade and b) Omen's actual family treated him so much better than the one he was forced into.
In an attempt to get answers / closure, Omen travels back to his home dimension, only to find it in ruins due to some kind of catastrophe (caused by Evil Grandpa possibly?). His old house sparks the forgotten memories back, which only serves to make him angrier since he thinks of what he could have had.
Both brothers struggle to cope, since Auger wants to comfort Omen but feels like it's a betrayal to his actual twin, and Omen is somewhat bitter about being forced to tolerate mistreatment he shouldn't have had to receive in the first place.
I was thinking about how Omen and Auger both feel like they're mama's boys but then I realized that the only reason for that is because she's always accompanied by her awful husband. Whenever they show up, she's always shown to care just a little more than Caddock, if only by a small amount.
Like, yeah, their mother must feel like the only source of real love in that house, even if she's cold and distant, because the other option is a man who has managed to become one of the most arrogant, negative people in Phase 2 in under ten scenes in the books. Next to him, her words don't seem as bad, even if they are terrible on their own.
Auger Darkly will always be trans fem in my mind.
Hi! My dad really like your art and wanted to know your interpretation of Omen Darkly because hes a favourite
I’m so happy to hear this. I didn’t care a ton for omen at first but now I think he’s a sweetie pie. I wish him well
i don’t even want to read the article, the headline is perfect
