Hello time machine.
Logging into Tumblr almost feels like taking a trip nowadays. Considering how I started “blogging” in 2008, I have written things that make me want to squirm now. DID I REALLY WRITE THAT? WAS I THAT SHALLOW? HOW COME I WAS SO BOTHERED WITH SOMETHING THAT DIDN’T EVEN MATTER AFTER SIX MONTHS?
I have to admit that my Tumblr days are long gone. Or, rather, you could say that my days as bubblygum are over. Gone are the days when I would spend hours scrolling into oblivion. I have moved on to another account, one that is small, anonymous, but more reflective of my thoughts. 2008 - 2012 was definitely my best days here, as I have gained new friends, insights, x,xxx followers (I can post that now since I have abandoned this account years ago), and even for a tiny bit I was able to practice writing.
Yes, let’s talk about writing. I mean, text posts on Tumblr. This site is full of beautiful and talented (and lazy) people. Even if I have moved on to another account, I still visit my favorite Tumblr blogs regulary. Up until yesterday, the thought of me being included in the list of talented writers never crossed my mind... Whenever I write here, I don’t do it to release my non-existent creativity. My lack of gift in giving life to words still bother me until now... And that’s the reason why I am at a loss --- some of my very personal posts were “stolen” by another blog.
Stumbling upon that blog was a coincidence, really. One link led me to another, then another, until I started reading something that seemed too familiar, then it dawned upon me --- these are my own words.
I don’t know how to feel. In this age where ‘copy and paste’ are as natural as breathing, I have no idea how to begin dealing with this situation. I sent a message to the owner of the blog, but after that, what’s next? After all, the thoughts I wrote 3-6 years ago were posted in a very public blogging site. My frustrations about an old love, musings about an empty joke that lifted my mood, my personal (and not editorial-like) thoughts about current events.... It feels like somebody copied my soul, and I don’t even know how to stop him/her.
Whoever you are, if you think I am going to rage at you with the might of a thousand horses (lol)... No. But I wish you a life filed with adventure, joy, celebration, heartaches, disappointments, and blank moments. Yes, even blank moments. Then you can develop your own identity, and eventually, you can pour out your soul into words.
Good day, Tumblr, and good bye again :)
