🧡 welcome, friends, to a new bucktommy positivity bingo! 🧡

WHAT IS IT?

As in the last bucktommy positivity bingo, we are going to be inviting everyone in the fandom to claim a bingo sheet, and check off squares of fanwork tropes by reading & commenting on other people's fics, writing or drawing their own works, making rec lists, making headcanon posts, or more! at the end of the event, a few special graphics will be shared as honorary badges for everyone who's scored a bingo!

EVENT DATES

Bingo cards posted - Monday 2nd June

Main Event - Monday 9th June to Sunday 15th June

Additional time - the week after the event is allowed as leeway time if you don't manage to complete in the first week!

WAYS TO CHECK OFF A SQUARE

You have a few different options on activities that count for checking off a square in our bingo!

Find a fanwork that features that trope, and leave a detailed reply/tag/comment for the creator about what you like about it! if it's on tumblr, make sure you reblog it!

Find multiple fanworks featuring that trope, and make a rec-list for other people with them! Make sure to leave what you like about each work as part of your rec, and tag the creators!

Create a new fanwork for the square! this could be a drabble, fic, meta post/headcanon, doodle; no limits on size, but we don't want anyone to think they need to spend a lot of time creating a fanwork for this unless they want to. it's all for fun!

You don't have to stick to one method when it comes to getting your bingo! you're welcome to review three fics, reblog one art piece with a comment, write one drabble, comment on five gifsets - whatever ratio you'd like to do it in! all you have to do to complete a row is engage with each of the tropes in it in some way, shape or form!

HOW IT WORKS

The number one rule is have fun and spread as much positivity as you can! anything goes in this event as long as it is supporting a positive, good-faith bucktommy work.

We will post the set of bingo sheets - some with season 8 themed prompts, some with generic ones. To claim a card, all you need to do is save the one you want and post it on your own blog or wherever you want to track your bingos!

There will be multiple options for the bingo sheets and you can choose which one you want to do, so if there are squares that squick you out, you can avoid them.

As mentioned above, you can engage with the prompts however you want, and it's fine to mix and match what you do (reviewing, writing, headcanon posts, etc)!

Occasionally during the week, we will share a post that people can reply to, or reblog & tag, to track your bingos. However, you can also repost your bingo card on your own blog and check them off as you go (remember to tag us!) or however you prefer to track!

If a fanwork or comment you make fits more than one of the prompts on your card, you're welcome to use it to cross off multiple prompts at once! if you'd like an additional challenge you can stick to doing each square individually, but there is no rule against checking off multiple

At the end of the event, we’ll share some pretty graphics as a reward for all your hard work ☀️

We have loved doing Bucktommy Positivity Bingo before and we hope people enjoy it again! it's a great way to participate in an event even if you don't have much time or inclination to create original works - reading, commenting and supporting other people are a huge focus of this event, and we can't wait to see what everyone chooses to do this time around!

Buck was still only a few months in when he was faced with a full moon shift. After removing a tapeworm and delivering babies for a room full of pregnant women, he needed a drink. Or ten. The 118 decided to treat him since it was his first time on shift for something like that. Chim had only invited Tommy because they’d talked offhandedly about him working that week too and he figured Harbor had just as busy of a day. It seemed the full moon energy hadn’t quite dissipated for Tommy though because as he settled into the booth with his old team, he locked eyes with his recent…ex? He didn’t really know what they were, but Tommy knew he wasn’t all that invested in it. He’d been trying a lot of things in the year since calling off his engagement, but he was still finding his footing in his newly accepted identity. He put his hand up near his face as if that would do anything to obscure him and groaned to Chim about the guy. Buck was just shocked that a guy like Tommy liked guys. Not that he was judging or stereotyping! He’s an ally after all! He had just been talking to Howie about his fiancée.

“I mean he’s a nice guy, I’m just not looking for…something serious yet and he definitely is.” Tommy shrugged. Buck was properly introduced to Tommy once they’d all settled in with their first drinks of the night. Buck found himself kind of enamored with the guy. He could justify it to himself the same way he justified his fascination with the “tapeworm guy’s” boyfriend’s gym routine. Totally normal. “So you’re my replacement? Big shoes to fill, kid.” Tommy teased Buck, nudging his arm with his elbow.

“Luckily I’ve got big feet. And you know what they say about that.” Buck grinned right back, not even realizing that he was being flirtatious. It was how he talked to everyone. He was met with a groan from the table and he laughed right back.

“And on that note, I need another drink.” Tommy hummed as he got up. He went to the opposite side of the bar from his ex, but clearly that wasn’t enough of a hint because as soon as Tommy finished talking to the bartender, his ex was approaching him. Even after Tommy’s drink came, he just kept talking. Buck felt for the guy, especially since no one was coming to his rescue. Again, he was an ally. He had to help. Buck slid out from the booth, ignoring the questions of what he was doing as he walked over towards Tommy at the bar.

“Hey baby, did you get me my drink?” Buck asked. He slid an arm around Tommy’s lower back as he stood close at his side. Tommy was frozen for a moment, shocked by what exactly this almost stranger was doing. When he heard what Buck said, he understood exactly what was going on. Thank god for Evan Buckley. Or “Buck” as they’d all called him.

“Huh? Oh—“ Shit. What was Buck drinking? “Vodka soda, right?” Tommy figured it was a safe bet and he was close enough so Buck nodded. *Somehow*, the guy wasn’t getting the hint and Buck could see how over it Tommy was. He could fix this.

“Thanks babe.” Buck leaned up and kissed him. It wasn’t anything more than a peck, but for some reason he felt sparks. Tommy had to hide the shock on his face when Buck pulled away from him, but the rest of the squad couldn’t. They all stared at the duo with complete surprise on their faces. The dejected look on the guy's face was enough to let Buck know that he was successful. He walked away, paying his tab before leaving the bar, but Buck still had his arm around Tommy. “Sorry if that wasn’t okay, you just looked like you’d rather eat glass than keep talking to that guy.” Tommy laughed.

“You’re adorable, kid. I appreciate the favor.” Tommy ruffled his hair and then pushed it lightly. Buck let go of him after that, his cheeks flushed pink. He wasn’t sure what he was so worked up over.

“For the record, it’s a vodka cranberry. Kinda hard to miss the red in there.” Buck laughed back at him, a smug grin on his lips. Tommy wanted nothing more in that moment than to see what those lips looked like—No. Buck wasn’t into him like that, or even into guys like that. Probably. Maybe? “So I guess you owe me another drink.” Buck grinned as he picked up his drink, tossing a wink at Tommy. Buck was like this with everyone, but usually he stopped around here. Stopped before things went too far.

“What are you doing Saturday?” Tommy asked a little too eagerly. Buck just stared blankly for a second, striking fear into Tommy that he’d misread the situation when all he was really doing was figuring out if he wanted to cancel his date with Abby which…was feeling very tempting (and very Buck 1.0).

“I’m free. Totally free.” Buck finally blurted out. He’d figure out what to do about Abby…before Saturday. He wasn’t sure what this meant for himself, but he was really excited to find out.

Have some headcanons about the things I think Buck and Tommy like to do together (long-ish so it's under the cut)

The first thing they started doing together was, of course, their Muay Thai lessons. They had to stop training at the gym Tommy normally went to because Buck ended up getting hard every time Tommy pinned him.

Tommy takes Buck flying, but Buck ended up deciding he preferred being a passenger, so Tommy didn’t end up teaching Buck, but they take plenty of day trips together. 

Buck’s favorite trips are anywhere along the coast, especially when they go north towards Oregon and Washington. 

They both like reading, but enjoy different genres. Buck likes non-fiction, and Tommy likes romances and mysteries. They have a “book club” once a month where they go to a cafe and just sit and talk about their books for an hour. Or longer. Usually longer. Especially if Buck got really into whatever it was he was reading about.

Buck and Tommy are both pretty outdoorsy guys and like going hiking together. Tommy says he likes to go because it clears his head, but really, he just likes hearing Buck talk his ear off about the trees, plants, and bugs. 

Speaking of Tommy liking listening to Buck’s infodumping, their favorite thing to do together is going to museums. Buck likes the natural history museum and Tommy likes art museums. 

The first time Tommy took Buck to an art museum, he didn’t really “get it.” Buck still enjoyed going because he enjoyed listening to Tommy tell him about the pieces. 

One of those times, they saw an exhibition that included Untitled (“Portrait of Ross in LA”), and sometime during Tommy’s explanation, Buck started crying. He very much got it after that (aka Tommy spent the rest of the night listening to Buck do a deep dive on queer modern art).

Buck makes a point to take lots of pictures when they’re on one of their adventures, and after looking through them one day, he was reminded of the couple he met when he was trying to get back into the dating scene after Abby. He told Tommy their story and the whole “you don’t find it, you make it” speech, and their photos. Tommy suggests that they start a scrapbook of their own and when Buck finally stopped kissing him, he asked Tommy if he'd "told him just how much he loved him lately."

Buck looks down.

Grins.

Then looks up at Tommy.

Tommy’s who’s standing pressed up against him, their chests touching and heaving with excitement, who’s holding his phone out in front of him and giving it the peace sign.

“Aw, Evan, you weren't even looking.” Tommy pouts when he sees the picture he had just tried to take.

Buck curls an arm around his boyfriend's waist and tries not to tip over as he maneuvers to look into the phone. “Sorry, Sorry.”

They retake the picture, the yawning landscape behind them a gorgeous background to their wide smiles. And Buck can't help matching Tommy's cheesy peace sign.

“I can take that when you’re done.” The attendant muses, her hand out Tommy's phone. “And your sunglasses sir.”

“Oh right.” Tommy chuckles and hands over his phone after locking it, along with his sunglasses.

“They’ll be here when you come back up.” She chuckles, stepping away as another young man slides up to Buck and Tommy to do a last minute check.

“You know, Hen says we have… what did she say? Weird date ideas.” Buck chuckles then, doing air quotes before dropping his hands so he can run his fingers along the bottom of Tommy’s tank top.

“I think she said 'unusual'." Tommy muses, pecking his boyfriend on the nose. “But she said it in that pithy tone of hers that's not so secretly bitchy.”

Buck leans back to level Tommy with a flat look. “Oh yes, because we definitely don’t warrant Hen’s bitchy face.”

The pilot rolls his eyes. “I don’t know what she’s getting all uppity about. Didn’t her and Karen chase a thief on one of their dates?”

Buck snorts but nods, “Actually I don't think that was a planned date, I think they just went out specifically for that? I'm not sure, Karen told me at wine night so I don’t remember.”

“See, that’s what I mean though.” Tommy grouses. “We did the normal dates; the dinner, movies, etcetera, etcetera, and those just all worked out sooo well for us.”

Blue eyes roll towards the sky as Buck huffs. “I’m only at fault for like two of those.”

Tommy just waves his hand like he’s batting those facts aside. “So it makes sense that our cooler date ideas are going much more swimmingly.”

“At least until one of us dies in a terrible, preventable, accident.”

Tommy’s jaw drops, his eye brows flying up to his hairline in shock. “What's this sass Evan Buckley?”

“Spending too much time with you darling.” Buck teases back, wrapping his arms around Tommy’s waist.

“If you boys are ready?” the attendant finally interrupts, her voice cracking as she tries to hold back her giggles.

“Oh sorry,” Buck grins back sheepishly. He looks down at the binding around his and Tommy’s ankles then over the edge of the metal grate they’re standing on. Below them the cord sways in bright red against the raging river below. His heart pounds with excitement and he shares an anticipatory smile with Tommy.

Tommy returns it in equal measure, eyes sparkling under his wind swept curls.

“You kids need a push?”

“Nah,” Tommy holds his hands out to his boyfriend and Buck laces their fingers together as they start to tip sideways.

“We’re good.” Buck giggles.

Their whoops echo off the canyon’s steep walls as the bungee cord bounces them clean through the air.

An I even going for a bingo at this point? Probably not lol

It’s not the strangest thing Tommy’s ever done… He’s been to war, adopted a cat, almost threw hands with a kid in a supermarket because he kept chucking grapes at Tommy behind his parents back. He’s stolen helicopters and hikes up mountains for fun. He goes to movies alone because he likes it. Sometimes he even lets the voice inside his head–the one that sounds suspiciously like his father– talk him into blowing up his life.

So to be sitting here in Evan’s house, directly across from said man, so close their knees are touching, texting each other…

It feels a little unreal.

It also feels a lot stupid.

But Dr. Copeland watches affably from Evan’s tablet, nodding approvingly every time the swish of a text goes through, and…Tommy didn’t expect much when Evan broached this to him last week. He’s done the therapy thing, opened himself up until he felt like he was bleeding out a truer version on himself. And it took months, even years, for Tommy to sew himself up again.

But they’re trying. Slowly. Evan recovering from Bobby’s near demise, and Tommy still grounded as he waits on the final verdict regarding ever being able to fly again.

Tommy thinks Dr. Copeland would like to pick open his brain and crawl around inside it for a wild, bets she would have a field day, and he tells Evan as much as when they were setting up for their telehealth session.

Evan had just blinked at him in surprise. “You think she didn’t with me after Covid?”

And well, that was fair. Tommy shakes his head. “Like anyone wasn’t fucked up then.”

But somehow Dr. Copeland is equally, far less scary and just as terrifying as Tommy thought she’d be.

“Evan informed me about your trouble communicating within your relationship,” Dr. Copeland nods, “So we’ll work on that a bit today. So let’s start with an exercise once you’re ready.”

Bucktommy Positivity Bingo: Bucks Baking, Harbour Team @bucktommypositivityweek

Lucy gets back from covering a paternity leave out in Santa Rosa on a Tuesday morning. It feels nice to walk into Harbour again after ten months away from her team, but the draw of the extra pay was just too good to pass up. She’s excited to be up in the air with her team,Melton, Ya-Ling, Tommy… even fucking Greg. And not to badmouth the Santa Rosa team, but they were almost ungodly normal and Lucy missed her crazies.

Speaking of…

Lucy perks up when she spots several members of her team gathered just to the left of the kitchenette, all lined up in a row by a table ladened with baked goods–and Lucy can smell the cinnamon coffee cake as she draws near, her mouth immediately watering– and watching something in the distance.

“Who brought in the bakery?” She asks, sliding up next to Melton who is eating a slice of cake out of a napkin like a heathen and holding his ‘Ray of Fucking Sunshine’ mug.

“Buckley.” Melton grins, hips checking her as Lucy snags one of the chocolate wafer looking cookies. “Hi by the way.

“Buck?” Lucy blinks in surprise then glances at the array of baked goods on the table warily. “Buck’s learned how to bake?”

“Yeah, during the infamous break up.” Ya-Ling, one of their aero-medics, says far more cheerfully than that kind of news warrants.

Lucy straight up drops her cookie. “BUCK AND TOMMY BROKE UP?”

Greg, the weirdest, most normal looking but arguably the most certifiable helitech guy Lucy’s ever met, stares at her incredulously. He’s got what looks like cream cheese frosting on his upper lip from the pumpkin muffin in his hand. “Yeah, Tommy blew up his relationship, but that's hardly new news. The Plague Nash is a way better story.”

“The– THE WHAT?” Lucy’s bag slides off her shoulder to land in a pile at her feet.

Melton's just bites into his cake. “Too soon dude.”

Greg just shrugs. “Zombies man, it’s never too soon…Oh and Tommy stole a helicopter.”

“Again.” Ya-Ling adds.

“The Army confiscated it for a bit,” Greg nods, pointing over to the yellow Bell 206. “Thought the Cap was going to have a conniption fit.”

Lucy does her best impression of a goldfish then. Mouth opening and closing with no words coming out.

“Right!” Ya-Ling grins, clapping her hands evilly as she whirls on her friend. “So you’ve been gone for all the juicy bits.”

“Oh shit yeah, eight months of no scuttlebutt, Tragic.” Greg nods and waves Lucy closer. “Get some cake and let’s catch you up.”

Oh Fuck, Lucy thinks.

She gets herself an extra large slice of cake and buckles up.

Lucy munches on a cookie and sips at the truly terrible Harbour coffee that she’s missed so much. She stares out into the distance where the others had been looking when she came in. They’re all watching like it’s the best kind of TV.

Even Captain Haslam has joined them for a bit before absconding with the last of the pizelle cookies.

Tommy’s sat out on the tarmac, phone glued to his ear as he leans against the skid of one of the helicopters. The same way he’s been sitting for ages according to Ya-Ling, all with a smile that even a blind person could see from space.

“Miss Santa Rosa yet?” Greg asks around his mouthful of muffin. It’s the third one he’s eaten since Lucy arrived and she kind of hates him for being able to eat that many carbs in one sitting.

“Not in the fucking slightest.” Lucy mutters. She’s still processing everything she’s missed. Gods she could use a beer right about now “I can’t believe Buck would let him break up with him.”

“I don’t know how much ‘letting’ there was.” Melton shrugs. “Guess they both went kind of twitchy afterwards according to Han.”

“And they’re only ‘sort of’ back together,” Ya-Ling corrects, doing air quotes with her fingers. “They’re ‘taking it slow’.”

“He stole a fucking helicopter, whats slow about that?” Lucy shakes her head.

“What’s slow about what?”

The four of them jump, whirling around when Tommy suddenly appears behind them. Melton almost drops his cake and barely keeps her fists to herself.

Lucy just turns to her team mate, all judgy eyebrows at his dopey expression. “What the fuck Kinard?”

Tommy frowns at her for a moment, then nods. “That’s fair. Welcome back.”

“Thanks, wish i had been here.” she grimaces, clapping her fellow pilot on the shoulder before holding onto and shaking him with her grip. “But seriously… what the fuck…”

Tommy laughs in a way that makes his face crinkle and the, admittedly large part of Lucy that was worried about him, calms down. “It was a whole thing. It’s, well… we’re working on it and– Hey! Who ate all the pizelle?!”

“Haslam took them and went back to her office.” Melton tattles easily. There’s a pumpkin muffin in his hand now and Lucy has to do a double take.

“Dude,” she puts her hands on her hips with a glare. “Save some for the rest of us!”

Melton just lifts a dark brow at her then points over his shoulder to Greg.

Tommy frowns in concern at the helitech. “Sanders… man…”

Greg stops digging his finger through the remnants of the coffee cake tray and surreptitiously wipes the crumbs off from his beard. “... don’t judge me Kinard, I've seen you try to climb into your boyfriend through his mouth on the pool table at O’Rileys. I’m allowed this as compensation.”

The pilot frowns but when he gets no backup from anyone else, drops the matter and leaves Greg to his plate. He’ll need to let Evan know the coffee cake was the favourite. Four orgasms apparently bypasses Tired Evan and goes right into Unlimited energy Evan that needs to bake to calm down. Which Tommy supposed is a hell of a lot better than baking because he’s trying not to call him.

Gods, Tommy loves him so damn much.

“Ughhh Lucy! His face is doing it again!” Ya-LIng complains, slapping a hand over her eyes.

“I’m out.” Melton sighs, turning on his heel and heading to his desk with Ya-Ling right on his heels.

Tommy sends Lucy a chagrin look and shrugs helplessly. “It’s good to have you back.”

Lucy loops an arm through his, snags one of the last muffins and drags Tommy towards the locker room. “Come on, give me your version of events so I don't have to keep filling in the blanks from these weirdos’.”

Tommy laughs and lets Lucy drag him away, more than happy to dish about Evan to fresh ears. "So get this..."

Buck was officially out of places to stay. He’d been bouncing around couches since Eddie officially moved back. Of course, he’d offered to let Buck stay until he found a place, but after a few sleepless nights, Buck decided it would be best if he slept somewhere else. Since the fight he and Eddie had, the house didn’t feel the same. It used to be like home to him, but now it felt cold and unwelcoming, no matter how settled Eddie and Chris got. It had been over a month, and he wasn’t any closer to finding a place that he could see himself settling down in. He was frustrated, but he couldn’t pick just anywhere. He wanted a forever home. Somewhere he could have a partner and kids and probably a dog or ten. That kind of place was hard to come by.

After his third showing that week, Buck drove himself a few blocks away before absolutely shutting down. The world kept spinning when Tommy left again and when Bobby died, but Buck couldn’t move on. How could he? He hadn’t spoken to Tommy since the funeral, and he’d tried the whole church thing for Bobby and none of it worked. Even surrounded by the 118 he felt alone. It was like life went on for everyone else and they all left him behind.

When Buck started to drive again, he was on autopilot. He didn’t even really know where he was driving to until he was suddenly turning down a familiar street. No, he thought, shaking his head as he pulled up behind the truck in the driveway. It was just as old and red as ever. I can’t do this. His body and his brain were clearly on different pages though, because Buck was getting out of the car, walking up to the door, and knocking on it. By the time his brain finally caught up and he’d turned on his heel to go back to the jeep, the door was opening.

“Evan?” Tommy looked confused or surprised or some mix of both. Buck was tongue-tied. He couldn’t exactly explain why he was there because he didn’t even know. “Are you alright?” Tommy saw that kind of distant look in Buck’s eyes. It was the one he got when he was so deep in his own mind that he couldn’t find his way out on his own. “Do…you wanna come in?” Buck nodded almost desperately, stepping inside as soon as Tommy moved out of the way.

Tommy wasn’t sure exactly what this was, which made it incredibly hard for him to figure out what Buck wanted from him, what Buck needed from him. He just knew he needed something, and that was all he needed to know. He’d bend over backwards for Buck, no matter what. That much was obvious considering the two times he’d broken the law with him, both when they weren’t even together.

“I’m sorry for just showing up here…I just didn’t know where else to go and I was driving and saw your street and…” Buck paused, his breaths heavy as he tried to keep himself calm enough to talk without completely falling apart. He was still trying to embody Bobby’s last request to him, to be strong and be there for everyone, but no one needed him and he didn’t know what to do. He was being strong, but had no one to be strong for which just left him feeling numb. “I had another house viewing today because Eddie moved back and it’s been weeks and nothing feels right. I put in for a transfer at work, I’ve been bouncing around on couches and I can’t talk to anyone because they all have their own stuff going on right now and the last thing anyone needs is my shit on top of it.” Buck couldn’t seem to stop the words once they started. “Maddie had her baby, Hen and Karen adopted Mara, Eddie’s back with Chris and I’m…” Alone. Buck’s voice wavered and that was all Tommy needed to hear. He stepped forward and pulled Buck into his chest, his arms wrapped firmly around him with one hand rubbing small circles on his back.

“It’s not crap, Evan.” Tommy hummed, wondering to himself who had put that thought in his mind. He wouldn’t put it past Buck to convince himself of that though. “They’re your family, you said it yourself. You guys have each other’s backs.” Tommy had no idea just how wrong he was. At least at the moment. What used to be Buck’s support system had all but disappeared when he needed it most. Everyone grieved in their own ways, but when it came to Buck, everyone found his coping to be selfish. “I’m sorry. About the house situation. And your transfer.” He wondered why Buck wouldn’t just stay with Eddie, but after their last conversation about him, Tommy didn’t want to ask. The transfer either. None of it felt like his place.

“Doesn’t really feel like a family right now.” Buck shook his head. “Without Bobby the 118 is just…it’s just a number now. They don’t need me there so it’s better that I just go for a clean break.” Tommy was shocked. “I want to be able to move on like everyone else has, but I feel so stuck.” Buck was still pressed against Tommy’s chest, his eyes shutting as he let out a quiet sigh. Without thinking, Tommy pressed a kiss to Buck’s hair, squeezing him a little bit tighter to his chest. It felt natural, like most other things did with Buck. It was only when Buck shifted to look at him that he realized he’d even done it.

“Shit, I’m sorry.” Tommy started to pull away, but Buck didn’t let him move. He felt Buck’s eyes burning through him as they stared at each other. Buck didn’t say anything either, they just stood like that until he finally made a move. Buck leaned into Tommy, pulling him into a slow kiss. He’d always found comfort in intimacy with Tommy. It was the only thing that did feel right anymore.

“It’s okay.” Buck said quietly as he pulled away with a smile.

Tommy helped Buck after that day, offering to let him stay in his guest room which lasted all of one night before Buck was in Tommy’s bed. Buck was still looking for houses and figuring out his transfer, but he had Tommy. After another couple of weeks, Buck felt like he’d toured every vacancy in LA and still he didn’t find the one. It wasn’t until one night, while he was curled up against Tommy’s chest, that he realized something. Eddie’s house hadn’t felt like home until he was there with Tommy. He realized that maybe home wasn’t a place, but a person. He was terrified to talk to Tommy about it, knowing that the idea of moving in together was the reason they broke up in the first place. Before he could ask though, Tommy surprised him.

“I would love that.” Buck nodded quickly. He’d realized at that time that home wasn’t a place, for him, it was a person and that person was Tommy.

“Did you see the porch on that thing? We’re not paying all that money to have a porch that’s going to collapse in on itself the minute the winter hits. No, let’s go to the next one.” Tommy folded his arms and Buck refrained from letting out the laugh that bubbled up inside him at the sight of his six-foot-something hulk of a boyfriend essentially pouting like a toddler right there on the sidewalk.

“Okay, I’ll let Julia know, anything else you want me to tell her so we don’t waste the rest of the day? She already knows your feelings on wallpaper and cabinets.” Buck said trying to keep the smile off his face. He was so used to being the particular one in the relationship that it gave him no end of joy to see Tommy being a little bitchy about crown molding.

Six months. It had been six months since he and Tommy got back together. Six months since Tommy had watched him fall apart on that monitor. Six months since he’d carried Buck out of the lab after no one else could get him to leave. Six months since they’d lost Bobby. It took time, but the day-to-day slowly got easier. It was easy for Buck to throw himself into work, taking on extra shifts when he knew Tommy wouldn’t be home, so he didn’t have to be alone. They’d been staying together since the funeral, after Eddie decided he was going to move back to LA, and Buck couldn’t find a place that felt right. In those six months, he and Tommy had decided that they didn’t want to waste any more time. That was when Buck officially moved in…even if he pretty much had already. 

For their second six-month anniversary, or as Buck had decided to call it their anniversary 2.0, they decided to stay in. Considering their track record at restaurants, they realized that maybe they should just avoid it altogether and get takeout. Pizza and beer in their pajamas with a little bit of lazy making out during a movie sounded pretty ideal anyway. Buck made the drive to pick up their dinner, which ended up being Chinese instead of pizza (because, god forbid, Buck liked pineapple on his). He carried the food inside, setting it on the counter, and opened his mouth to call for Tommy. Before he could, he heard Tommy’s bare footsteps from down the hall. 

“I think we ordered enough food to feed a small army.” Buck laughed as he turned to look over his shoulder to smile at the other man. When he saw a small box in his hands, his face turned to surprise. “You didn’t have to get me anything…” Buck couldn’t contain his smile as he abandoned their dinner and walked over to Tommy, pressing a kiss to his lips. 

“I know. But I wanted to.” Tommy hummed as he pulled away from the kiss, stopping to press his lips over Buck’s birthmark. “I just hope you don’t think it’s stupid.” 

“It’s from you. It could be a rock or a piece of lint and I’d love it.” Buck reassured him as he took the box from Tommy. It was wrapped to perfection with a ribbon tied neatly around it. All Buck could think was how horrified Tommy would be when Christmas came around and he found out how terrible Buck was at wrapping gifts. He looked up at Tommy, who was watching him intently, waiting for him to open it, so Buck did just that. He set the pieces of wrapping paper aside as he tore through it to get to the box inside, opening it carefully once it was freed. The book inside the box wasn’t anything he’d seen before, even upon closer examination. What he did recognize, however, was the random page he’d opened it to. It was Bobby’s lasagna recipe. Buck closed the book again and reread the title, Family Dinner. 

“I know you were worried about damaging the handwritten copy so…I got copies of the pages turned into a book for you.” Tommy looked nervous about how Buck would receive a gift like this, how he’d react when the pain was still so raw. Buck looked back down, flipping carefully through the printed pages as he tried to blink back a few tears. He couldn’t think of a time when he’d been given something so heartfelt. 

“I love it.” Buck finally spoke, his eyes watery as he looked back at Tommy with a soft smile on his lips. He’d barely touched the recipe book that Athena had given him after the funeral. Like Tommy had said, he was afraid of damaging it and losing what felt like the last real piece of Bobby that he had. He set the book down on the table along with the box and wrapping paper before stepping closer to Tommy. Evan wrapped himself around Tommy, his arms tight around his back and his face buried in his neck. He’d always been better at expressing his emotions through actions rather than words. Tommy held Buck close, rubbing his hand in slow circles on his back as he felt Buck’s breath get shaky. He knew when Buck was about to cry, he’d learned those signs well during the past few months. This time was different though. Buck had a smile on his lips as he looked at Tommy again before pressing a very wet kiss to his lips. “And I love you. Thank you.” 

“I love you too.” Tommy smiled back, pressing another kiss to Buck’s lips before they pulled themselves apart. 

“I probably should have given you my gift first, it feels pretty lame in comparison.” Buck laughed gently as he started to unpack their now lukewarm food. 

“I’m sure I’ll love it.” Tommy responded confidently. Buck watched as Tommy grabbed the bag he’d left on the table and pulled the teddy bear out, his face getting redder by the second. 

“Me and Jee were at Build-A-Bear and I saw the little firefighter costume and—well, you get the idea.” Buck smiled nervously. “I did the whole heart thing too. Kissed it and everything.” 

“I would have paid money to see that.” Tommy teased him as he set the bear down and moved to help get their dinner unpacked. “He’s pretty cute, but you’ve definitely got him beat.” 

Sparky, the bear that Tommy had decided to let Buck name, was soon displayed on a bookcase in the living room. It hardly matched any of the other decor, but Tommy couldn’t find it in himself to care. It wasn’t long before Bobby’s recipe book was placed in Sparky’s lap, one little arm wrapped around it. Buck and Tommy agreed there wasn’t a safer place in the world for it to be.

Tommy sighed, setting his phone facedown on the side table next to his bed. Evan Buckley is going to be the death of him.

Tommy can't help but smile, chuckling at himself and picturing the blurry, red-faced selfie he got of a clearly drunk Evan trying his best to look pitiable against the pillows of his bed.

Evan had seemed so aloof the last time they had hooked up; he hadn't offered any indication that he had missed Tommy as much as Tommy had missed him. But maybe after a text exchange that Tommy probably should have shut down...maybe they could really talk this through on even ground.

Maybe there was still something there, something that he could stop running from.

“Good morning, sleep well?” he asked as he placed the tray down on the bed, leaning over to place a light kiss to his forehead. Normally, Buck was a little more fussy about eating in bed, even the idea of crumbs making his brain twitch, but the smile on Tommy’s face everytime he walked through their door was enough to settle the feeling. 

Buck let out a little “mhmm” noise as he made grabby hands for the plate of what looked like avocado on toast and whipped feta with a suspect pink sauce. Tommy diappeared for a minute, coming back holding two mugs full of coffee.

“Tommy, why is the sauce pink?” He said, mouth half full of food as the sauce in question ran down his finger.

A Comforting Weight-Chapter 3

Hey hey! Here's chapter 3. Particular thank you to the groupchat tonight for their invaluable help, with special thanks to @thecarrott who gave me the perfection that is Tommy's special hobby and @desert--moonchild, who just holds my hand and is generally awesome, and essentially beta read this for me. Thank you!

The noise of the bar feels like a good distraction from the noise in his head. Tommy’s setting a beer in front of him and all Buck can think is...what if his new captain doesn’t like him? And if he’s really honest with himself, he’s also worried about Sal liking him as Tommy’s boyfriend. They’d never had the chance to meet in their first six months together; Sal has a wife and three young children on top of being the captain of a firehouse, he and Tommy tend to get together once a month at best. It had just never lined up before for Buck to join in. So he feels like this is also another facet of Tommy’s life that he’s being brought into, as well as meeting his new boss, who could make or break his time at the 133. He knows how ridiculous that is, of course, but his feelings about all of this feel so convoluted in his head, it’s sometimes hard to make sense of them. But he’d had such a rapport with Bobby, after some work, of course, that he’s afraid no one else will match up. And rationally, he knows that he’s not just going to magically find that again, this is going to be a new start and… Tommy bumps him gently with his shoulder. “I can hear you spiraling.” Buck sighs and takes a sip of the beer. “I’m just overthinking.” “I’m sure that’s not true. Maybe it would have helped to have done this meeting before you gave your notice, we just couldn’t make our schedules work before now, but, I promise, you don’t have anything to worry about. Sal’s a good guy,” Tommy assures him. “Kind of a bitch sometimes, but a good guy.”

Happy Bucktommy Positivity Bingo Week! For my "Buck Leaves the 118" Bingo Square

"Uh, h-hi I'm your new transfer. I'm looking for Captain De-"

"Buckley! My office!"

Buck gulps in a way he hopes wasn't completely audible and sends a tight smile in thanks to the firefighter he didn't quite get to talk to before making his way down the hallway of the 122 station toward Captain DeLuca's office. He steels himself with a deep breath before hitching his duffle higher on his shoulder and walking in.

"Captin DeLuca, it's good to be here. And, and good to meet you." Buck stutters out, feeling his face grow red.

DeLuca is stocky and serious where he sits behind his desk--its at odds with the explosion of hand drawn crayon pictures pinned to the cork board behind him.

"Buckley, Evan. Thirty-four, been at the 118 since finishing the academy, a bit of a hot head, danger magnet..." Captain DeLuca trails off then, observing Buck. Buck tries not to let the dread in his stomach physically pull him down in his seat. So much for making a good impression--"and coming to the 122 with glowing reviews from three of the best damn firefighters I know."

That gets Buck to look up from where his gaze was slowly dropping to the desk, meeting DeLuca's eyes in surprise.

"I-what?" Buck says intelligently, cringing in his mind at his own inability to come across even a bit confident.

"Anyone ever tell you that I started at the 118? Chim says you've got the most heart he's ever seen, and that the only reason he's letting you go is because he can't stand to see it keep bleeding everywhere. Hen tells me that you're gonna be a hell of a Captain someday--leaving us all in the dust."

Buck feels his eyes stinging, not quite knowing what to do with all of this, feeling just as overwhelmed as he did when he walked out of the 118 five days ago with a voice horse from arguing with the very people who seemed to have talked so positively about him to his new captain.

"A-and the third?" Buck asks, not sure who else would have known both Captain DeLuca and Buck well enough to supply another glowing reccomendation. Lucy, maybe?

Captian DeLuca smirks and looks up at the wall to the left of his desk. Buck follows his line of sight and feels a throb of complicated emotion pulse through him. There's a picture there, of Captain DeLuca--much younger but still clearly him, with an arm around a hauntingly familiar man.

"The third is, in my personal opinion, an idiot on many fronts. But I believe him when he says you're all courage, integrity, and helping people through and through."

"I don't--"

"Yeah, he didn't actually want me to tell you that he gushed about how 'amazingly competent' you are for seventeen minutes straight. And you know, how could I break my best friend's trust like that? Even when I think he made a hell of a mistake and just needs to stop being a damn chicken and talk to this supposedly fantastic firefighter who had put in for a transfer and that I needed to fist fight Mehta for?"

Buck is stunned, eyes still catching on Tommy's younger face in the picture, they way his smile looks genuine under his gelled down curls.

"You didn't actually fist fight Captain Mehta did you?" Is all Buck can say, stupidly, "I mean--no I didn't mean that. Um. I mean, thank you. For this opportunity, Captain DeLuca."

"I metaphorically fought Mehta, but don't you worry about that. Let's get you introduced to the crew first, and after shift's over we can hit the sandwhich shop across the street and plan out how we'll corner Tommy."

Captain DeLuca gets up then, a whirlwind of words and motion that Buck is hopelessly trying to comprehend. He walks out the door at a brisk pace and Buck's eyes travel back to that picture.

"Buckley! Let's go!"

Buck scrambles to follow, heart beating fast and grin cracking across his lips.
