"alters arent real people" *loud buzzer sound* WRONG
i for one am a real person. this is my physical life. my physical body. i am a real person who exists. im just a different version of that person and capable of being multiple different versions of that person.
if you think alters cant be real people, then you basically think plural people arent real people. gonna talk from the CDD angle cuz thats what i know.
the host is an alter. there is no "real alter" and acting like there is basically functions no differently than treating us like a singlet, but worse, because we're mentally ill.
plural personhood is still personhood. we dont have to be people like singlets are people in order to fucking be real and deserve human rights
like you do realize there are people who have had professionals try to eradicate integral parts of who they are under the pretense that alters arent people and just a symptom of mental illness that need to be gotten rid of entirely, right?
(we have experienced that; now think of how fucking traumatizing it is to have an integral part of your personhood treated like a disease that needs to be cured so you can be a good normal person. ykno, instead of just treating you like a person with a different experience of identity and supporting you emotionally)
alters live life too. we have thoughts, feelings, and emotions too. we have just as real of experiences of life as other people do. it's not like we only exist inside our heads. we can perceive the world around us and act in it. this is not news.
so of fucking course we're people. you can add whatever modifier you want like "parts of" or "versions of" or "alternate identities of" but at the end of the day that's still "a person." and without the "person" there are no "parts."
if a singlet can have a part of them that's bold and courageous around people they feel safe with and yet quiet and meek around everyone else. and still be a person regardless. i think an alter can be a fucking person.
[ written by a diagnosed PF-DID system who supports endogenic systems and self-diagnosis. get fucked if you don't support endogenic plural people or self-diagnosis of CDD ]
I've always thought of it like this:
If alters aren't people, when do I get to be a person? When do I get to be a person? When am I a person, and when am I an alter?
They need to eat less because they're so small and weak. Why are they so small and weak? Because they eat less. Let's base our entire society on this distinction.
number one rule! never believe ur thoughts after 10 pm . unless its about The Character then believe all of your thoughts wholeheartedly

They shed their baby beards to make room for their adult beards. Like with baby teeth.
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
happy pride month for it/its users, polyamorous people, xenogenders, non-transitioning trans people, and other "weird" identities. btw
long bacon pt 1
happy pride!
yall gotta learn the difference between "this character is an asshole" and "this character was supposed to be super cool but the author is an asshole" and "this character is a teenage girl who was mean once"
ok note to self i gotta leave the house regularly so that i dont feel like im slowly transforming into an evil fucking shadow clone of myself
So as it turns out your sense of self doesnt exist in a vacuum. You gotta actually use it and bounce it off of other people like echolocation to see where you are as a person and shit. So if you dont regularly interact with other people the echoes just get weaker and weaker and before you know it your personality is a blurry fucked up fog clone of its former self. which it sucks because this makes it really hard to interact with people again but yknow
you don't hear much about the italian shadow government's stance on bisexual boys these days
