i’m autistic and have adhd (these are not diagnosed officially yet but i’m hoping to get this sorted soon via right to chose! i’ve done lots of government recommended self assessments and have been told i am by pretty much every single diagnosed neurodiverse friend i’ve met that i have these)

i’m british and from the south-west of england!

i just did a degree in filmmaking production and spent most of it doing producing. film isn’t going to be my main career (sadly bc i’d love to but i can’t do the industry rn) but i am going to keep doing it on the side :)

i love:

- films!! if i were to recommend 4 right now it would be “flee”, “polite society”, “guillermo del toros pinocchio” and “amelie”. im currently looking forward to: “lady”, “teenage sex and death at camp miasma”, “i love boosters” (it’s not out in the uk yet :{ ), “the sunny dancer” and “primetime”. i love going to my local indie cinema, but i also grew up on the MCU, and don’t mind bigger films either :)

- tv: i’m currently into “the pitt”, “abbott elementary”, “the testaments”, “arrested development” and “yellowjackets”. i always want more recommendations (especially for more diverse tv shows, with more diverse cast AND crew so if you have some send me them PLEASEEE)

- scrapbooking and collaging. i made a big fantasy aesthetics one for my wall since i love that too!!

- sellotape: i have ranked sellotape types on smell and rollability as i stim / think by rolling sellotape up and down.

- beauty (specifically glittery eyeshadows, skincare, fun lipsticks and the brand lush!)

- point and click adventure games (detective grimoire and poco!! i used to play grimoire as a kid on my mums i-pad. give me more recs!)

- pop music! i LOVEEE a dramatic pop track. currently loving: “adela”, “hemlocks springs”, “chappell roan”, “olivia rodrigo” and “JADE” (and specifically lady gaga’s ART-POP, despite not having heard a lot of her stuff) (i also recently liked lily allen’s “WEST END GIRL”)

- musical theatre! i’m big into a few shows and i’d love to recommend “35MM: A musical exhibition” and “Lizard Boy” to anyone watching!

- i’m into dolls! i’ve just had 3 bought for me! i specially like ever after high and monster high

- making films! i wanna get better at writing since im not great, i can do cool concepts i just can’t execute them. i wanna write a film about a female clown at a speedfriending event (to talk about how being autistic can make making female friendships more difficult)

- hangyodon the fish - what can i say i don’t know super much about him but HES SO CUTEEEE. im collecting stuff for him and now own: some hair clips and a notebook (thanks to my lovely mate who’s a phenomenonaly talented editor btw)

some fun facts about me:

- when i was 4 i went to london and licked a tube window

- i’m so SO pale and cool-toned that when i buy makeup people struggle actively as all foundations are too warm and yellow

- i currently have hot pink streaks in my hair

- i really want to get into comics (specifically XMEN, and gwenpool. i own gwenpools omnibus! i need to finish it still. i also own labyrinth coronation!)

- my car is bright yellow

- i like to stim by winding up and unwinding sellotape. i find the sound and feeling of it really relaxing, and it’s a repetitive motion

- my favourite flavour of tea is teapsy’s coconut and chamomile because it’s blue originally but turns green when ready! i also desperately want these moomin exclusive teas to be available much wider to the point i emailed the company

- i made a dark fantasy horror short about cycles of emotional abuse within families, and depicted why people stay in abusive situations.

- i had a pet great african land snail as a kid but now i am terrified of bugs to the point i just shrieked and ran away from a fresh baby catepillar in my house

- when i was a kid my raven queen doll’s leg broke. my grandad gave it a cast and i gave all of the characters signatures on the leg (i attempted to make them unique and failed)

I don't like revealing too personal info on the internet normally but I live nearby to this. I have grown up with planes and bombs manufactured less than a 20 minute drive from my house. I drive past some of these companies on the way to work. We learnt about them in school. There was several engineering colleges (or sixth forms) by my secondary school. The Ministry of defence was nearby, a 20 minute walk away from the school. When taught about it, we got taught about concorde, the planes, and never the weaponry.

We were never taught about the Bombs dropped on children our age.

It is disgusting and it is deplorable how ford, elbit, etc can waltz into schools, talk proudly to me and my peers about getting into engineering, and then manufacture and drop those same bombs onto children.

The racism and islamaphobia of the british goverment is a huge factor in why the UK government continually supports the ongoing genocide of palestine. I feel so distraught that they can come into our classrooms and talk to us about opportunity, our intelligence, how we will grow into smart young people, and then drop weapons onto children who are smart, who are capable, who deserve to grow up and live, regardless of who they turn into.

The contrast is stark and it breaks my heart.

I’d change the story of Ever After High so these characters reproduce asexually (mostly because if a prince and princess fall in love and their children are supposed to be the next prince and princess who are also supposed to fall in love then this is gonna get real incest-y real quick. ‘But not all Prince Charming’s are the same!’ What about Robin Hood and Maid Marian?’).

The characters cease to exist once their story is finished, and the next generation is magically created immediately after. This creates more weight behind the propaganda, and more stakes behind the rebellion; your life revolves around this story, this Happy Ending is your only goal in life, it is all you have to look forward to. Everyone’s lives revolve around pushing these stories forward and if you step out of line our existence crumbles.

(Obviously this magic is either created by Grimm to force these stories how he wants, or can be broken. Red Hood and The BadWolf both escaped their ending and ran away, having their own children).

Not all fairytale characters end their stories young; a lot of the villains are old crones, Sleeping Beauty and Maid Marien both have kings and queens who are grown adults in their stories. In this au the world’s economy is run by everyone whose stories haven’t come into fruition yet. It creates almost a religious panic; you don’t know what’s on the other side, you don’t know why you’re told to do this, you just know you’re only a good person if you do as you’re told.

Also, in the same way there’s multiple Prince Charming’s, I’d make the decision that sometimes a villain has to double up and be in multiple stories: the students aren’t the next generation of specific characters, but archetypes themselves.

Raven isn’t just The Evil Queen, she’s instead forced to take on the role of every Witch across all fairytales; Little Mermaid, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. I think this would make sense why she’s seen as way scarier than the other villains because she’s in the most famous fairytales. Kitty Cheshire is also the cat in Pinocchio, Macavity the Mystery Cat, Shere Khan in the Jungle Book etc. I think it’d be funny if Lizzie has to spend the whole of her story running back and forth as the Queen of Hearts, the Red Queen, the Duchess and The Cook. Just completely out of breath.

I also think this creates a rift between Raven and the other villains; they have less roles and aren’t as famous.

(I know this means no Faybelle, I will find a place for her. I think maybe The Wicked Stepmother; she hates Raven cause she doesn’t get to do anything cool and half time the her roles are stolen from her anyway, like in Snow White. Or she’s playing second fiddle, with her role in Hansel and Gretel being outclassed).

This is also how it’s built into the heroes to resent the villains; Raven gets to grow old spending her life in multiple stories until she fits the ‘old hag’ archetype. But Apple has to die young and beautiful. Apple clings to her story with everything she has, because it’s the only the she gets to have.

Ok,ok, Let's move step by step:

1) Poppy's birth: Let's start by saying that Rapunzel was by default predestined to have twins because it is part of the Rapunzel fairy tale in all the written versions. So we could even say that Poppy has already fulfilled a destiny as "the kid that Rapunzel must have" . Some fairytales,bye default,wants the characters to have multiple children (like 12 Dancing Princess)

2) Poppy proves that fate doesn't exist: This is canonically incorrect! In Ever After, inheritance is by primogeniture. Therefore, the first-born inherits the fairy tale, while, except in special cases, the rest of the siblings are just stock princes/princesses.

This makes sense because there are so many fairytales who need the MC to have the more children, like Sleeping Beauty, the King of The Wild Swans, the King of The 12 Dancing Princesses - All these characters have many children, but only one of them can inherits the kingdom and the story. And since Ever After needs free Princes and Princesses to complete the other fairy tales, these second borns come in handy. For example, in canon, Beauty and Sleeping Beauty are sisters.

If you are a commoner it is even simpler: The eldest inherits the role and the second born is a commoner, like with Robin and Heather. We also know from Cerise and Sparrow's family that different stories can arise from the same family, since the two Hood Clans were related in ancient times. The presence of brothers does not alter the dynastic system

3) Poppy & Holly/Cerise & Ramona choosing:

Let's first recap how the Storybook of Legends works: The book is activated when the interested person says "I am character child of parent". The book perceives the character who made the request and opens to the relevant page.

If Holly says, "I am Holly O'hair, Rapunzel's daughter," the book will take her to Rapunzel's page. This is also because the book at school is not the original, but the new one created by Grimm,(which works like a Faustian pact unlike the real one which is a sort of Book Of Life). This book is clearly less insightful than the real one, so obviously it's enough for him to know that Holly is Rapunzel's daughter to give her that destiny. Regardless of her biological first parentage.

For the Woolf-Hood Sisters - Ramona and Cerise choose who is who because they, by virtue of their very existence, know that the book is a giant load of bullshit. An argument could be made as to how Cerise, before Ramona was introduced as a character, might have had doubts about what the book would show her. But as long as Ramona exists, it's clear that the Hood family doesn't have this problem: They know that destiny is a fake, so (albeit secretly) they do what they want.

4) why no one has ever faked like them in the past: This is a rhetorical fallacy! Just because we don't see it on screen doesn't mean it never happened. Maid Marian says in the books, "Rebels have always existed in the past, you didn't invent nothing. The only difference is that the rebels of the past did it in secret, and you did it in the light."

Just as the presence of laws in the real world has never stopped man from doing things, so in the world of Ever After not all the characters are religious fanatics like Apple! Marian herself has changed the ending of his story. And it's not a given that the characters we see in canon descend from a precise and perfect dynastic line! There have definitely been other Holly and Poppy

5) If you can steal destiny, it's a farce.: YES THAT'S EXACTLY THE POINT. The system is fake, and it has created pre-fabricated villains to allow the nobles to have power! Raven and Ginger are unequivocally good but people assume they are ontologically bad due to genetic predisposition.

Duchess is the only one who knows that signing someone page can give you their story, because she heard Grimm talking about it. Remember, Grimm created the book, so if he need it, he can change it.

And just like the point above: Ramona probably chose to be the big bad wolf because she is the older sister, and she as a wolf would not have hurt Cerise, unlike one of the village wolves.

6) The Policies of the Charmings:

Yes, a girl can be Pinocchio, but she can't fight because Cedar and Darling come from different social backgrounds. Cedar is a working-class girl, she has no royal labels to obey.Darling, on the other hand, is a princess, and she has to follow a silly protocol because that's what royals do. In this the series is very accurate to the historical period: Women of lower class have to work, while noble women only have to give birth.

And as for the point above: The Charmings must reproduce because Prince Charmings are required in many fairy tales and not only. It's not that Dexter doesn't know absolutely what will happen, simply unlike Daring's parents never prepared him for any specific role

7) Darling's Destiny and the gender gap:

Darling's point is that she, like many noblewomen of the time, has as her sole aim to be a broodmare for the children of a king or in any case an important man. She's not the protagonist of her story, she's a supporting character for the happy ending. She's in the same position as Helen of Troy: she gets beautiful and gives birth while the kings do serious things like war.

8) The Charmings: The show keeps saying it – There are multiple Charming families around the world! Given the existence of the "Charmings of Nottingham", a typical location of Robin Hood, it is reasonable to think that there is a Charming family who acts as lord protectors in each kingdom of a given fairy tale.

Furthermore, the inheritance is linear. The surname is that of the most important parent! Apple is "Apple White" because Snow White is an infinitely superior role to Stock Prince n°3

9) The Beauty family: Nowhere does it say that all the Belles descend from Sleeping Beauty. Only this generation does.

"But then why is Rosabella Beauty and not Beast" because (marketing aside) we return to the point about sexism - Rosabella is a princess, she is not an ordinary girl. So being a Beast would not be ideal, which is why (since the roles of Beauty and Beast have equal weight) it is reasonable to think that based on the sex of B&B's child,will have one of the two roles.

Dexter's parents themselves say "it's been a while since there's been a Beast" to indicate that yes, the Beast, Rosabella's father, is the son of the previous B&Bs and as a man he became the Beast. If Rosabella had been a man she would have been the Beast.

10) The Brothers of Briar: Again, they are future princes. Or dukes, barons, knights, marquises, squires, etc. This is a monarchy, children are used as bargaining chips to maintain power.

11) The Good King: We're talking about the fairy tale of Snow White. It seems obvious to me that, by default, "the good king" is her father, since the Evil Queen is her stepmother. Yes, it's true, Mattel said in a remote Facebook post that he is the Queen's second husband. I don't care, it's not what the books say. The books say that the Evil Queen was married to Snow White's father, and since there is no mention of his death, it is reasonable to assume that he and the good king are the same person.

And yes, this is possible, because double destinies exist. Pinocchio himself, when he has a son, becomes Geppetto; and just as when Red Hood has a daughter, he becomes "Red's Mother."

12) Cinderella and Snow White die young: Yes that's the point pt. 2. Ashlynn in the books is already preparing for her mother's death! Because the bottom line is we're in a cycle of abuse where no one has ever really learned anything.

funny thing about going to a very small art uni is my entire year group of 40 was / is bonded by hatred for one lecturer

after graduation earlier this month, i’ve been told by most students in my year how they value the opportunities and people they’ve met on the degree but the lecturers and actual education was dogshit

this lecturer in particular was reported by at least 5 students (including myself) out of 30-45 in our year, on the national student survey
