@bugboyzim
i thought i saw a post in dutch on my dashboard but it turns out it was the name of an invader zim character
I said something embarrassing they are going to kick me off earth
Jhonen C. Vasquez (1992-1993) found on Flickr
a ufo just landed on my car and crushed it and all the aliens got out and laughed
CAN I JUST SAY THAT i fucking hate how like. while it was planned that invader zim was gonna have two protagonists- zim and dib- its always dib that gets more... development?
like. i love the show dont get me wrong. but it really irks me (no pun intended) that the crew stresses that zin and dib are equals, and yet dib is the one that actually has character development and nuance put into his actions. hes changed from the show and his relationship with his family have gotten better
with zim? its the OPPOSITE
hes always written off by crew members as "oh, zim? yeah he wont ever change." the Main Character is stagnant. while the comics make dib's life better, they make zim's worse. 777, zim's only friend, is now only helping him because he has his kids hostage. you used to be able to make the case that red was a little sympathetic towards zim, now him and purple are interchangeable assholes to the point where they SWITCH COLORS in issue 4. zim himself is more 2d and has more of a Cartoon Badguy role to dib's Plucky Young Hero and it really doesnt feel like theyre on equal ground anymore. it just feels like dib is the new protagonist, and the traditional Cartoon Good Guy, and zim is just a joke without the CORE TENANT OF HIS CHARACTER, that being that hes not stupid, just misguided.
and it really feels like the comics treat him like hes stupid and doesnt have a friend in the world or anyone that likes him even a LITTLE because who would ever like ZIM amirite?
zim's classmates whenever he opens his mouth moodboard
must be nice to feel nostalgia for invader zim I never watched it as a kid </3
working on a fic, this is basically how it’s going
What gets me is, personally, I think its ooc for Zim to be murderous and violent, or at least it would take a lot for Zim to get to that point.
Zim has caused injury and death, but so far it’s been entirely unintentional.
He didn’t willingly kill Miyuki and Spork, they were killed by his creation that turned into a monster by pure accident.
He didn’t willingly kill his own people, he just doesn’t think of others outside of himself very often.
He destroys stuff and blows stuff up because he thinks that’ll gain him love and praise that he desperately wants, not understanding that Irkens are more specific and intentionally cruel with their destruction over destruction in general.
Zim is unintentionally dangerous, and I think that can be scarier than someone intentionally being dangerous.
(When Zim does specifically want to destroy something, he tries so hard he fails, which is why Earth is still around. But still, if Zim were to really dedicate himself to tearing someone/something down...I feel like that’d be terrifying. That’s why Irk both hates and fears Zim)
I just really like this scene of Zim’s antennae sensing something behind him before he notices it himself. It’s a really nice detail!

me thinking about ZiM and Duty Mode Gir’s exchange in “Gir Goes Crazy And Stuff” where ZiM says “You were my servant once, remember?” and Gir says “Yes. I Didn’t Like It.” and deciding to interpret that as Gir just not liking when ZiM treats him as lesser and wording it with so much contempt due to the way the Permanent Duty Mode is altering his personality, because it makes me too sad to imagine that Gir genuinely doesn’t ever like being around ZiM at all:
