I've seen a lot of people online joke about being communists or proudly claim the label when you get called one by someone right-leaning— and honestly, it really fucking sucks. I know many people who have lived under communist regimes, and it's horrific. Glorifying something that caused real suffering for millions isn’t edgy or cool — it’s degrading. You're making communism less than what it is. The same thing goes for racism and general bigotry-- just because someone doesn't understand being gay DOESN'T MAKE THEM HOMOPHOBIC.

Yes, capitalism sucks. I’m not defending it, I hate it. But criticizing capitalism doesn’t mean you have to romanticize and/or accept the label of systems (communism) that also oppressed, starved, and silenced people-- and still do. Don't erase the pain of those who lived through regimes that destroyed lives. ETA: To clarify, I know what communism is. I'm not confusing it with authoritarianism, I am speaking primarily about Authoritarian Communism-- AKA, what most communist governments implement. I am saying that if you are called a communist for being anti-capitalist, that it is not a label to wear with pride. Communism, when implemented in governments, has systematically failed its people time and time again. It, historically, is a bad system, and piling all anti-capitalist systems together under that label takes away from the genuine suffering it has caused people. If you are communist, fine, you are what you are, but don't say you're communist if you aren't.

The idea of communism itself sounds like a perfect utopia, but once it's brought into the real world, it collapses so fast. People claiming to be communists need to do their research.
