The AHL is such a wonderful league and I need people to understand this. If a player either plays their whole career, half of their career, or even a couple games down there, doesn’t make them any less “professional” than the big league. Those teams are made to support the NHL team. These guys are still making $75k+ a year… that’s a lot of fucking money. AHL players are professional hockey players. The league is still an amazing league. Just because their schedules are a little different and their cup is a little smaller doesn’t make them any less valid. The most important thing is that they’re getting paid to play the sport that they love and they still have a beautiful trophy to work towards. It’s not an insult if you get sent down for more practice. In fact, you should feel grateful that your team likes you enough to support you, and give you the practice you need to grow into a better player instead of giving up and trading you. The AHL is fantastic.
