xB used to live among other guardians, as he was a Leviathan/Guardian "mutt" and essentially acted as their guard dog. However, to the elder guardian, xB was a threat to their throne. xB also didn't necessarily agree with their system, so he left. He found a nice spot by the cliffs of a coastal town which he called his home.
This was when the overworld was still healing, so villagers were discovering dyes and painting what they saw. Which would be xB, even though he didn't really interact with them. Of course later the new wave of villagers would assume he was an ancient guardian of some kind. Which he was, but not in the same sense they were thinking of.
For quite sometime nothing eventful really happened, he helped around the village from time to time and did what he could to keep them safe. That was until a stranger started coming around. Not quite human and not really a hybrid, but something internally different. Somehow a Fae had found his way into xB's little coastal village and at first he wasn't particularly thrilled of this Fae. But xB couldn't deny there was something eerily alluring about him and xB was oddly drawn to the Fae.
Eventually he did grow fond of the Fae, learning his name was Hypno and letting him stay longer and longer until he found his home with xB. The comfort wouldn't last forever, the first tip off that something had shifted was Keralis no longer visiting them and then new outsiders came who twisted the idea of xB's presence. It would lead to xB and Hypno being ran out.
For decades they roamed the lands, traveling and trading. But xB started to feel the exhaustion of being away from the sea for so long. When Hypno noticed the visual discomfort, he asked and xB tried to explain. It would lead to an agreement, they would split ways with a promise that when xB wakes up, Hypno will come find him. Knowing fae must uphold their end of any deal, xB left to go find a deep ice cave where he took a nice nap before having Hypno come fetch him.
He's home and family is now Hermitcraft. He sticks close to Hypno and Keralis, and as long as they are around he's not going anywhere.
A wee FedxB and Bishop for the soul <3 Yes, I did self indulge by giving him a Celtic/Irish tattoo. Only Hypno really knew about it, X kinda did since he has to screen all new hermits, and Keralis got the idea that he has half a sleeve in season 7 but didn't know the full extent until season 10. Which led into season 11 with his uniform now all the hermits know and were like "wait, is this new??" Hypno, far off in the distance, "Nope! He's always had that, I'd think I'd know"
(If you're curious what each section means/represents: Bishop, his loyal dog, guards his heart; the "Morning Star" represents a new dawn, yesterday is dead and you can only move forward; the Sailor's knot means the enduring loyalty of a lover to return home from the seas; Mist [or I guess a better term is Whips] guide his path and just like them, he helps guide others; the Dara knot means deep rooted wisdom which leads he's hand)
This is also what I meant by his tail changes colour (aka, I forgot he's in a temperate region and not a cool one. The only time his spikes change is in a warm region where they become darker)
Ren has an unlikely beginning. Back when hybrids were less prevalent, and generally mistreated, they would wound up in less than ideal places. Ren, being a painted/wild dog, was born into a chain of underground dog fights. Commonly fighting against other canines like Wolves or Foxes. It was a miracle that he lasted as long as he did and with minimal scars.
His ticket out would come in the form of an odd friendship. False was a part of an assassin's league in which she had been plotting her exit from. After meeting Ren, they start the execution of their leave. And... it could have gone worse? It wasn't the smoothest escape but they were both free. Or, well, for some time they were. They had a run in with a rapidly growing corporation. Ren, wanting to repay False, made a deal with Giga-corp. They let False go and he'd (loosely) work with them.
Giga-corp agreed and False was let go. But before she was ushered out she told Ren about a server that could give people like them a refuge and if Ren ever had the opportunity, take it.
Well, years past and that opportunity presented itself. Ren heeding False's words, managed to convince Giga-corp (under certain circumstances) to join the server. While Giga-corp does pester Ren from time to time, he's free for the most part. Slowly rebuilding himself but every quickly finding trust in False and his new family.
Ren has nonstop been looking for why he's mechanic wasn't working... Finally found the problem! Silly lil' armadillo
Pearl is an Aussie dingo and way before Hermitcraft, she was a Scrapper. She's always had a knack for finding niche items and giving them homes. She did a lot of traveling in the desert where she could find so many different goodies.
Most of the time, she was bought out by villagers. But sometimes by hermits (Cub/Docm for Scar's wheelchair, Impulse for redstone components, and Cleo for fabrics), obviously not knowing them at the time but you get the point. Now, most of the deals Pearl made weren't a problem... until they were.
At first, when she stumbled across some hermits it was to trade but when she ran into trouble she asked to stay for a few days. A few days turned into a week, and then two, before she knew it Cleo was vouching for her to be given the chance to permanently stay if she wanted too. Cleo mentioned that she had worked with Pearl in the past and thought she'd make a fair addition to their slowly growing family. So, with permission and after a screening, Pearl stayed to make a new home (and to help hermits find their misplaced thingymabober or whatever). She does sometimes get teased with the "this is why we don't bring strays home and feed them" bit.
Most Scrappers had an "official mark" that was a coyote paw with a broken gear around it. It was a way to tell if someone was who they said they were, almost like an ID (along with dog tags). Tango is truly trying to help with redstone, even with his made up slang
Scar is an odd story. Vexes live in a small "bee hive" pocket dimension made by their Evoker. Most vexes that are there are called True Vex, which just means they were born a vex. Facade Vexes are vex which once were an Ally that was corrupted and blinded by rage, slowly turning them into a vex.
Scar is a Facade Vex which was corrupted by an Evoker. When he was stored in the dimension, Cub came to his defense and taught him the ropes. Through the years of being summoned by his Evoker, he "earned" the name Scar.
When Scar and Cub's Evoker had been killed, they were released from the dimension. While Cub had no problem taking on a more humanoid form, Scar struggled and was very weak due to most of his energy being from his Evoker. Cub could only help so much with his magic. He would go in search of some kind help, and after getting stuck in a different dimension and making it out, he came back with a semi solution.
Cub and Doc had quickly worked together on an all terrain wheelchair that's wheels could become legs like appendages. The other hermits were also very welcoming and helpful when Scar joined. They are never too far if Scar ever needs help, especially Cub.
Scar is slowly getting stronger and some days can use a cane/crutch paired with braces
Doc M077 was originally an experiment done by the Watchful Organization. He was a "throw away" till he proved his sentience when repeating a researcher's name. From there they continued their research with him, paired with a Jacob's sheep hybrid as a companion. Doc was quick to learn and as he grew up would become extremely interested in the sciences. This would also result in how he would replace/substitute limbs. Zed (the Jacob's Sheep) and Doc would work on many experiments together, along with their separate projects.
His main focus being plane/realm hopping. He had successfully pulled objects from one room into the next. So eventually he wanted to try something bigger, like a plant from the nether or something. Instead, he accidentally pulled an "eldritch" from the Far Lands and couldn't put him back through the portal. Panicked, he placed the "eldritch" (Etho) in a holding room and went to Zed with a "hypothetical". When Doc returned to the room, Etho was gone (not entirely but shush).
Any organization members were prohibited from leaving the facility, but that didn't mean there wasn't another way. Doc went to an abandoned wing and opened a portal on a short timer. His hope was to find Etho, apologize, and take him back to the Far Lands. That plan quickly went awry when Doc (and Etho) got caught up in a confidential case, which was a side-research project ran by Watchful (this would also be their first attempt at a multi-study life dependent series). However, due to the nature of this game, Doc won't know who Etho was even after they became close.
So, when Doc split to Hermitcraft he was pleased to find Etho joining him a few years later. Along with the horrifying truth that Etho was the "eldritch" from the Far Lands all those years ago. Differences set aside, they are good friends now (with nagging from time to time).
The Office Season 5, Ep. 14-15 is Doc's relationship with some of these hermits. So, uh... if Doc gets too fired up, he can go Boom (he does bite his tail to dampen it/comfort him but I think his tail gets shorter every season)
Xisuma's story starts way before him. When the End was flourishing, there were three main species: Ender dragons, Eldritchs, and Voidwalkers. They all balanced each other. Ender dragons hunted Voidwalkers as a champion's final challenge, Voidwalker ate Eldritchs to survive, and Eldritchs fought and killed Ender dragons for sport. It would stay like this for millennia only to be interrupted by an invasive species. These people of old, ancient ones, claimed chunks of their land which they did not know. While at first these foreign lands would deal with these pest, ender goers so realize how resistant they were. As a result, Voidwalkers would go extinct, the precious balance was shattered. That alien race which had purged their land and robbed them of a keystone species, played the incident while making the declaration they could bring them back.
This is Xisuma's story, a pathetic attempt to bring a race back from the very people that wiped them out. X, and by proximity his brother, weren't the first attempts. There were many before him of all different kinds of problems, too obedient that it'd kill them, violent, stubborn, organ failure and so on. Xisuma and Xenos were the lucky ones that lived just long enough to be released. They were, of course, split and it'd be the last he'd see of Xenos for a while.
X, up until a certain point, had followed what he was told. That was till he ran into an Eldritch that looked too like the very people that raised him for X to attack. Just that second of hesitation would grant him so much freedom. After defending the stranger against an older Voidwalker, he'd stay with him. This stranger would be known as Keralis and would also be the very first person to show X any compassion.
Between exploring the End with Biffa (an albino Ender dragon that was like a brother to X), taking short trips to the overworld world to see TFC, and trading with what so would be several Hermits. X would stumble upon Wels, which TFC had led to Xisuma. He'd take Wels back to the End with him, right before the portal to the overworld was severed. Wels, unbeknownst to him, would grow up in a time of war. Something that drove Biffa to the overworld once the portal was reopened and a war X shielded Wels from. Years after the war ended, Wels would leave to start his own path and soon Xisuma and Keralis would follow.
Xisuma considers himself to be lucky, not just being on a server he can call home and family but also one that wanted him to lead them. He's not on his own, Joe and Hypno help with code while Keralis keeps everyone (including X) in line. None the less, Xisuma is still extremely thankful.
X decoding some stubborn code and him without his helmet (he's actually started wearing less and less of his armour and only what's really necessary: helmet for breathing/translating; breastplate for vital organs; gloves for heat distortion/code). I should also mention, he had much larger horns but didn't want to scare Wels, or accidentally hurt Wels/Keralis, so he shaved them down
(I'm not totally sold on what to do with Skizz, because I barely know/watch 'em, and his story will probably change)
When players first see Skizz they often mistake him for an angel or something of that kind. This gets solidified when they see his best friend (Impulse) is an Ender dragon. But uh, the funny thing is... He's actually not, instead a stilt sandpiper. But due to the shape and volume of his wings, players assume otherwise. This has always been the case and probably always will be.
Before Hermitcraft he was a travelling journalist. Going from place to place collecting and writing stories. It would lead him into the nether where he'd met Tango and Impulse. And Imp would have some crazy stories from the End that Skizz would always ask for. Tango would leave the two some time after to join a server named Hermitcraft. Which left Skizz and Imp to make their own stories to entertain each other. Until Impulse seemingly out of thin air, vanished. Skizz in his bewildered state started searching for his buddy and would be approached by a very strange lad. He would (unknowingly) join a multi-study series where he'd met tons of new faces, but more importantly be reunited with Imp and Tango. Serval years later he would be given the opportunity to further write his stories on Hermitcraft.
So turns out when thick wings get damp, it's no fun...
Keralis doesn't quite remember how it started, or how he started. However it was rather evident that he craved a group or "family." He was assembled with a few other eldritchs, but it was more happenstance than anything. Something to fall back on. So when he quietly left, there wasn't much fuss and for a while he was doing pretty good. That was of course till a long extinct species, known as Voidwalkers who recordedly ate eldritchs, were brought back (by morons) which put him between a rock and a hard place. The voidwalkers weren't terrible to avoid but it was still annoying.
One did change his mind though. One that didn't immediately attack him and minutes later would defend Keralis. Shishwammy (which was his genuine try at X's name) would turn out to be a "defect" by others terms. Instead of being a monster, he was compassionate and that was the very thing Keralis cherished. Which was also the very trait that would lead Xisuma to bring Wels home.
Keralis does consider Wels like a son and would have done it all again if he could. So while he was sad to see Wels leave home, he understood everyone needs to form their own path. Taking care of Wels did however reignite the want of a family. Which meant when Xisuma and Keralis went back to the overworld, the first thing they did was find a server. One which they would later become home.
(and yes, keralis is very pleased with his found family)
Keralis was very good at getting Wels to bed. Oh and a bonus X and Papa K because why not?
I guess I should have also mentioned how they get their "player" forms because they are both very different approaches. Joe would just see traits he liked or were useful and then modified those to be more him. Keralis, uh.... he just waited for a player to "no longer have need" of their skin.
(I'm sorry there's not a better way to word that)
But they do have consistencies! For example, having square-like pupils and bigger eyes, they tend to stand a certain way (like their "good, more human, side"), and ironically kinda short.
Don't be fooled by Joe's simple appearance! He's learned from his travels that players, of any kind, let their guard down around "softer" looking people. I should elaborate, see Joe's from the Far Lands. And like most entities there, he is in fact an Eldritch. Not all eldritches are malevolent, Joe's hunger doesn't stem from consuming people but rather their knowledge. Because "Knowledge is power" or well a food source. And when the Far Lands had nothing new to offer Joe left in search for something more fresh.
In traveling the world he certainly got that, things he didn't even think were possible became new realities. It would also lead him to Cleo, someone that had seemed lost till he found her. While for a short season they would split, Cleo finding her footing in the world and Joe a concrete home, Joe would invite her once more into their forever home. And soon to be their forever family.
(don't mind the long list, it's an inside joke <3)
So fun-not-so-fun fact, Joe can see "code." This can normally cause dizziness, illness and overall is rather overstimulating. His glasses help to condense the code down (like how we see it) so that he wouldn't get headaches. It is super helpful when finding bugs though!

Tidbit Log:
Hels can be a long story, especially when the world was pinned against him since day one. He was hoping his brother would follow him when Hels left, but he didn't (not to his knowledge). Obviously wondering about at such a young age, in the nether, led him into trouble. That being a lanista (person in charge of gladiators) picking Hels out and beginning the tedious process of becoming a gladiator. In a way Hels craved propose and this gave him that. His confidence in the arena would soon become cockiness. Armour that dared one to try and swing at such a vulnerable part, it was never truly that easy. He was good, he knew that and everybody seemed to as well. Then the rumors of a new age came and when that day arrived, it wasn't hard to seize.
Even now with his new "freedom," he still takes pleasure in the adrenaline the arena gives. This time though, he has more of a reason to wow the audience. A little favor in Xenos (Ex), goes a long way.
Xenos (Ex) story is intricate. He can only barely remember what life in the End was like, with even fewer fragments of his twin. He couldn't quite tell you how he got to Hells, but it doesn't really matter. What matters more is where he's currently at. And all it took was feeding paranoia and superstition. He's not even that cunning but it worked, it still works. He has (mostly) everyone wrapped around his finger and he intends to keep it that way.
Beef's a bit of a long story... He's, technically speaking, a (moose) Wechuge. A very dialed down version which originated in the Far Lands. He dwelled there with Pause (close friend), a Wendigo, and Etho (brother), a subspecies of Eldritch. This was until Etho was ripped from their realm (unknowingly by the Watchful organization). Beef and Pause would leave in search of him. Pause would inventively pick up Etho's "beacon" and would find him on a server called "Mindcrack."
They would only stay for so long leaving after Etho's injury and Pause's paranoia. Again they would split up, Etho in search of the person that pulled him from his reality while Beef and Pause tried to settle down. Despite this, Pause missed home and not to mention the paranoia/nightmares wouldn't relent, so they headed back to the Far Lands. Here Beef and Pause split, both agreeing Pause would be alright now and Etho needs his brother.
So, Beef came to Hermitcraft and was able to find his final family. Him and Etho of course go and visit Pause, at the very least, once a year. No brother is ever left behind.
Beef was just trying to read the directions to Diversity but that's kinda difficult with these two fools (Etho trying to steal more TNT, despite his privilege being revoked, and Pause's obsessive yapping)
I'll try and keep Wels brief, since I have sooo much on him ^^"
Wels is a Sliver Dragon (long story) and twin to his brother Hels, a Red Dragon. Now due to red dragons having a reputation, Hels would often get the (unrighteous) sort end of the stick. And in his fleeing, Wels tried to follow but quickly got lost. He would end up finding a nether portal, unbeknownst to him put there by TFC. Once he went through, it closed behind him which left him stranded in a stronghold.
This is where Xisuma would find him right before he was about to return back to the end. Taking Wels with him, both X and Keralis raised Wels. He would inevitably leave to the overworld and join a Royal Guard calling themselves "The Morning Stars." Wels did this because of how his parents raised him (Xisuma living protecting those who can't protect themselves and Papa K insisting on helping anyone you can). Unfortunately while he learned a lot during his stay, hybrids weren't as welcomed as they are now. After one last straw he left and would later meet xB and Hypno.
Hypno wouldn't not only become like a brother to him but later introduce him to Hermitcraft and be reunited with family.
(Wels still wears the morning stars armour since it was suited for him and he couldn't be bothered to make a new one... For now, cough season 11 cough)

Zed is actually a Jacob Sheep (though it's hard to tell)! Before Hermitcraft, and really anything, he used to work for an organization called Watchful. Where he and a coworker of his, Doc M, would have free range to conduct any experiment they found interesting. Zed really wanted to do in-field studies but he was prohibited from leaving the facility. That was until Doc M didn't show up in their shared office for a few days. When he found the note Doc had left him, an escape route and explanation, curiosity would get the better of him and he'd soon leave too. Which would inevitably lead him to Hermitcraft, because what better people to observe than a bunch of hermits?
He's longest, still on going, experiment is seeing how each hermit reacts to a headbutt greeting (as custom to some horned critters). It has yielded mixed results! First, not all horned/antlered hermits will return the greeting and are rather startled or confused. Second, some non-horned/antlered hermits will return the greeting! And some are quite well at it, like Cleo and Bdubs. There are some hermits that are trying to adapt to this though.
