Hermit A Day May: Cleo 🪴
Tidbit Log:
Hypno technically made Cleo. A section in his program was to make Fetch Dolls, which was overseen by an elder fae. And it's not necessary that he was bad at it, he was actually pretty good, but he didn't measure and used a bunch of different sources. Cleo was practically done a few days before Hypno and Jesse made their escape. When he left, the elder fae didn't see a point in keeping her so they just tucked her away in a Stronghold. That's where she sat for far too long and started to rot.
That was until an eldritch, Joe Hills, poked her and accidentally gave her some of his conscience. Thus giving Cleo life. Yes, Cleo's scream scared Joe and they were there for a minute. But that aside, after Cleo managed to get used to being awake and moving, Joe had quite the list of questions. And just as many questions Joe had, she did too.
It was rough going for a few days, Cleo knowing things but not fully understanding them. She also had to quickly pick up sewing with how many loose threads she had obtained over the years. But she was still fascinated by this new world, its customs and cultures. So while she wanted to follow Joe to this place called "Hermitcraft", she also wanted to explore just a bit more. But promised she'd come home when she had her fill. And of course she did. She met many new faces and saw some beautiful places. So when she found her way to Hermitcraft, she was proud to say she had also found her family.
Cleo's snakes can be shy but they do tend to have favorites they are less shy around. Also, False's "poison darts" don't come from thin air
Hermit A Day May: Gem 🗡️
Tidbit Log:
As a Northern Red Fox, Gem worked with the Scrappers. She was born into a Royal Guard called "The Morning Stars" and they taught her just about everything she knows. Combat, survival, tracking and so on. So it came as no surprise when some Scrappers wanted personal guards that Gem was one of the first on their list. While she would work under a few people, she tended to work closely with Pearl.
When they were passing through a village for the night they ran into a lass at the motel. As Gem often did, she got chatting with her. The lass spoke very fondly of a server for people like them, a place one could call home. And long after they had parted ways, Gem entertained the thought of such a place.
It was the first place she thought about when her and Pearl ran into some unpleasant company soon turned to trouble. It's also where they sought refuge and their temporary stay became a permanent one. It's kinda funny how Gem didn't think such a warm home was something she wanted till she had it. And boy is she glad she does.
Hypno and Cleo constantly get called "Auntie" and while Cleo finds it amusing, it drives Hypno up the walls. Gem loves how Keralis braids her hair and he loves doing it. It reminds him of how Wels' hair felt when he was little, which leads to him yapping about his family (hermits included)
Hermit A Day May: Bdubs 🐎
Tidbit Log:
Bdubs is a guardian of the Spring fae court. His domain was over a small prairie which sheltered many different critters, most importantly horses. He liked the calm, slow past life style but after centuries it can become repetitive. Especially when you don't have very many visitors, of any kind that talk back.
Spring far can be tricksters from time to time. And despite speculation, fae are normal people height like from 5 to 6 feet / 152 to 182 cm. Which means just about nothing when he stands next to Hypno (while on a step stole)
After he had made his mind up to leave, he didn't go very far for quite some time. But he would join a research project run by Watchful on a multi-series life dependent study called Mindcrack. It went about as well as one expected. Though Bdubs didn't do too badly in combat, it wasn't a strong suit. Making several friends was something he was good at and when Mindcrack was starting to disperse he loosely followed Doc M. Though he's pretty certain Doc didn't notice and soon Bdubs wandered in his own path. That very path would lead him to Keralis and something much bigger. Hermitcraft has become his permanent home and he was glad to see others sharing the same sentiment. Especially old friends like Doc, Beef and Etho.
Hermit A Day May: Grian ☀️
Tidbit Log:
After trial and error, they learned not to rely on chorus fruit because it resulted in the body warping into something familiar but not quite right -- "Enderman". Far too late, they realized the importance of Voidwalkers and now the consequences of their absence. In an effort to make "peace" with the remaining End hosts, they promised to recreate them henceforth bringing them back. It was unethical to say the least. Grian mostly did paperwork for the experiments, he wasn't allowed to participate or interact with the "monsters". Any glimpse he saw of them was brief and only to finalize documents or take short notes. Safe to say when the End Prince got wind of this, it was to be shut down. But the voidwalker project went on for a few months before conflict broke out between the Watchers and the End inhabitants.
(Don't really know Grian's character well, or watcher lore, but I'm trying...)
Grian is, technically speaking, a double crested cormorant but tends to be labeled "Watcher". And those people aren't far off, anyone can be a Watcher or apart of the Watchful Organization. But before all that, they were the "ancient" ones... They were ordinary people with a hungering greed. After they had almost completely depleted the overworld, they made a last ditch effort to the End. Grian was very young when this happened.
Grian was in the second evacuation wave with many more. This group split off and started to prepare for the others, this was also how the Watchful Organization would begin. Grian's party was selected for a nearby desert. He stayed there for a bit before he got bored and left. Well, I guess it wasn't just boredom. A part of him didn't quite have a taste for how the Watchers approached the End. But that is neither here nor there, at least for him.
Nothing much happened in between leaving and finding his way into Hermitcraft. And while hermits wanted to welcome and be the same coverage as it had been for most hermits, it was hard for some. You see, Watchers had a very ugly side that most were forced to deal with.
Xisuma being at the top of that list for obvious reasons, has for the most part come to some peace with Grian's presence. Hypno has learned to hold his tongue but does still hold a grudge. The Fae realm took some inspiration from the Watchers and their organization which led to Hypno's time and eventually Cleo. So she also kind of holds a small grudge on Hypno's behalf. Tango at first still had a bitter taste in his mouth from what the Watchers did to the Overworld and the Nether before abandoning them but he has gotten past most of that. Biffa and Impulse were also both on the fence about the whole thing.
Differences aside, he has slowly become a part of the hermit's family. Though Hypno and Joe are still wary of Grian. Especially when it comes to their hermits participating in the Life Series. But for now, all is good.
Like mentioned, Grian did a lot of paperwork in the End and ironically did almost the same thing for the Permit office
There are times where he's more likely to wear shoes instead
Hermit a day may: Impulse 📻
Tidbit Log:
Impulse worked in the Prince's blacksmithing wing as a "tooth". In each cluster there were 5 components; an "eye" would design the armour/weapon, a "keratin" would do measurements for both the wielder and the "tooth", a "scale" would make the armour while the "talon" would make the weapon, and the "tooth" would gather the resources while also commonly work through all components.
Impulse and another tooth from the Princess wing were given a resource list which had some overworld metals that they got pretty commonly. So after they gathered what they needed from the End and dropped it off, they travelled to the overworld. And in about two days, Impulse had got everything on the list and headed back to him portal. When he got there though it wasn't linked, matter of fact it looked almost destroyed. He thought nothing of it and went to the other tooth's portal, which had also been destroyed.
That was the moment all the rumors of war in the End became a reality. After waiting several days to see if the other tooth would come back, he left to go hopefully find a new way home. While an odd looking portal led him to another dimension, it wasn't the End. And after a Blazeborn broke it to him, he already kind of knew. There was no way home. But the kind Blaze, named Tango, offered him a new home here in the Nether. They would soon also be joined by Skizz, a travelling journalist.
After Tango left, Impulse and Skizz would go to the overworld to start making their own adventures. That was until Impulse fell asleep next to Skizz and woke up surrounded by a familiar face, Tango, along with a few unknown ones. While Impulse was trying to frantically explain that Skizz was one his own, none of the three hermits could get ahold of him. Not for a few seasons at least, but they got there eventually. All is good and chaos continues with zits.
Old habits die hard and Impulse can't break the "I need to hoard stuff just in case" that never happens
Hermit A Day May: Tango 💥
Tidbit Log:
Tango spent most of his life in the Nether watching it try and repair itself from the damage done by the overworlders. Which is why he was so confused why and even how an ender dragon wound up here. And he also seemed just as confused about where exactly he was. The ender dragon, who called himself Impulse, was looking for a portal but not the one he came through. He was looking for one to the End and Tango felt bad when he had to break the news on how impossible that sounded. As far as Tango was aware, there were no more of those.
When it rains, Tango will make redstone components. Due to it making a mess and being slightly toxic, the bandana and goggles get to be used (despite everyone teasing him that they're just for the aesthetic reasons)
Which is how his offer of the ender dragon staying with him temporarily turned into a new roommate. Of course, the End was a lot colder than the Nether. So they worked together on a way to cool Impulse down and overtime he actually adapted to the much warmer environment. By now, the Nether was making a steady come back over these past years.
That's when a new friend kind of showed up, an avian journalist that told some pretty remarkable stories about the overworld. So, Tango left on a little adventure that somehow ended up with him on Hermitcraft. He's glad though, despite having to sometimes deal with adult children. Though I guess he can kinda be like that too. Hmm... well, it does make some memorable moments. Cherished memories.
Hermit A Day May: False 🦅
Tidbit Log:
False was adopted into an assassin's league at a young age, due to her being a white tailed eagle hybrid. She was taught that while outside of the organization she was worthless, inside she was a useful tool. While she had her doubts about that ideology, it nagged in the back of her mind. None the less, she was one of the best and most of her tasks were mercenary work and being a body guards/bouncer.
One of her frequent locations was an underground dog fight pit. This is where canine hybrids would go up against just about anything they could fit in that pit. This is also where she met Ren and over a few months would develop an escape route. Which went surprisingly well, for the most part at least. False knew of a slowly growing but safe group that would take them in.
However, before they could get there, they fell into the hands of Giga-corp. And despite False's protests, Ren made a deal with them for her to go. She hated leaving Ren and told him everything she knew about the server they were trying to reach.
When she did eventually join Hermitcraft, it wasn't really the same without her buddy. So she started to devise a plan to get him back, that was till he showed up at Hermitcraft's doorstep. That's when Ren explained his workaround through loopholes and False kinda stopped listening after a while. She had her friend back, that's all that was relevant.
Gem and False spare all the time <3
Hermit A Day May: Mumbo 📹
Tidbit Log:
(Mumbo is a shot in the dark because I'm not sure with him)
If Mumbo had a life before being bitten, he wouldn't remember. See that's the problem with being around the sun a few times, you start forgetting tidbits of information. He does have a vague recollection of a tight knit community that... oh, what was it? Something something, people and ash, something something. Guess it's not important.
Anyways, kinda a silly story about how he wound up on Hermitcraft. It was purely by accident. He was looking for an old friend of a friend when he got caught between Hermitcraft's Firewall/Code line and Hypno had to go fetch him. He just stuck around after that only occasionally leaving to visit a very odd bird friend.
Mumbo has trouble remembering redstone components and he can't keep track of a piece of paper for the life of him. So, he normally just writes notes and such on himself
Hermit A Day May: Hypno 🍄
Tidbit Log:
Hypno was born into the summer fae court where he was assigned to the law under psychics. This is where all of his psychic abilities came from. But even at a younger age, he felt that this power could almost be unethical and it rubbed him the wrong way. He understood taking pain away by blocking memories however, having total control felt like too much responsibility that he didn't want to abuse. He found peace in a season brother, Jesse, another Fae from the Spring court who was under the guidance to become an assassin. For some years they silently planned to slip away with no trace and when the chance arose, they took it. While they didn’t initially want to split, they thought it’d be best for the time being.
Hypno made his way to xB’s coastal town where he made a fae ring not too far in the neighboring forest. And what started as xB trying to chase out a stranger turned into an understanding of pasts. At first they were under the status of “business partners” with the concept of HHF slowly turned into something more. But good things don’t always last forever. He didn’t totally trust Keralis when they first met, mostly jealously, but he warmed up to him. The reason they left, other than Keralis not showing up for a long time, was the shift in the village. This new denomination came in and grew suspicious of xB’s presences and Hypno's inability to stay in town. It creeped them out and despite the older villagers defending xB a little bit, saying he was of some great descent, they still started running people out.
So, they left and started traveling and selling various items. This was when they were kind of with Wels, till he went off to go do his own thing. And once xB explained he needed to rest for a bit, Hypno wandered around on his own. Which led him to Joe, who would introduce him to Hermitcraft. And when xB called, he went to fetch him and bring him onto Hermitcraft as well. Eventually getting back in contact with Wels and Jesse, adding them to the pile. Occasionally he does need to take long naps in his fae ring but time doesn't exist there so he can't gauge if it's been too long of an absence.
Hypno's a germaphobe and xB loves to mess with him. It's also why he has lots of piercings but no tattoos. His argument is that a needle piercing you once is clearer than several times. Hypno does actually have a third eye! Though he has to hide/close it or the fae court would have an easier time tracking him down
Hermit A Day May: Jevin 🏛️
Tidbit Log:
Jevin’s story starts way before him. You see, slimes actually aren't from Minecraft, they're from one of its moons before its destruction, they left and made their home on Minecraft. There are two denominations, one is sentient and the others aren’t. Jevin is from a long line of sentient descendants. His village was nestled by a snowy mountain and swamp where he mainly worked as a type of fisherman. Villagers from the other side of the mountain grew wary of them and planned an attack. When a group of those villagers finally went through with their plan, Jev was a young adult and down between the docks. He was at first confused by the rush of these people until one spotted him and loaded an arrow towards him. They shot Jev in the shoulder which offset his balance just enough for him to fall into the freezing ocean. Now while some slime like the cold, they build a tolerance for it and how fast they can enter cold water. When they just jump in, with little to no tolerance build up, they go into shock. Their bodies slow down and go into a hibernation like frogs. This is what happened to Jev and he drifted towards xB's town where he found Jev. Feeling bad for him, xB gently moved him to someplace along the shore and up a creak for him to defrost. xB then set Hypno to go check on him.
Jev actually spent a lot of time with Hypno recovering since the fae realm didn't affect him. He thanked Hypno and asked him to thank xB before heading out. He really hated staying in one place for too long after what happened and always was on the move. Oftentimes he would travel with or help others travel (like Cub).
He would meet Keralis in a pub and after some months becoming really close with Keralis, he joined him on Hermitcraft. Later when he was asking Keralis how Hermitcraft worked and told that they move every season. It really comforted him, though he knows now his family will protect him and he’d do the same in a heartbeat.
Slimes are actually incredibly strong for how squishy they are! They also tend to have translucent bits, like Jev's torso (for everyone's sanity, I did not explicitly draw organs). Hypno and Jevin are really close, basically brothers and do a lot together. Also a bonus Wels because why not
Hermit A Day May: Etho 🎐
Tidbit Log:
Etho, like all of those whom the Far Lands have formed, is an eldritch. A Mishipeshu, one that hungers for knowledge and is a brother to Beef. Etho's memories of the Far Lands have become fuzzy and only a warm summer dream. One in which he was ripped from when Doc M accidentally pulled him into a room of blaring lights and harsh whites. Out of anger when he watched the thing leave, he wished to follow it but Etho became lost in this new maze.
He slipped through the cracks and found that the world beyond the Far Lands did not obey the same rules he had come to know. It was both thrilling and threatening but with no other choice, only to adapt. So he did, he knew at the least that Beef and Pause could come find him if he grew just enough in his power. The problem of others being drawn to it would so also rear its head.
This is how he found himself on Mindcrack, a group approached him with a strange offer. A swift fight for glory and then everyone would be to their own. Shortly after he agreed, Beef and Pause joined him as soon as they found his call. And for a while it served its purpose until in a close quarters fight when Pause accidentally took his eye out. That injury, while he never held any hard feelings against Pause, would be the slow end of this chapter. But Etho did harbor a bitterness towards the person that dragged him here, even though ironically they'd become close friends.
Beef and Pause would return to the Far Lands for a bit while Etho sought after Doc M and would meet him on Hermitcraft. Beef would of course later join Etho, along with another friend (Bdubs). He does, eventually, resolve his digressions with Doc M and it did take some time but all is good.
Most of Etho's scars are from UHC, most notably his eye. His tattoos are actually a funny, not so funny, story. The tattoos have a long history I plan on explaining later but I think I did a poor job drawing them last year. However, it did make a funny headcannon. See some hermits think the tats are a part of his vest and others have figured out they're not.
Hermit A Day May: Joel 🌸
Tidbit Log:
(Beans story is subject to change...)
Beans is a Half Ogre, or at least to his knowledge. Well, that's what the circus told him... He stuck with them as they travelled from town to town. He performed as a Voltige or Trick Rider, basically an acrobatic on horseback. And as fun as it was, it became boring.
So when the "Precious Wilds" consisting of a unicorn hybrid (Scott), a fae/pixie mix (Lizzie) and a Canary hybrid (T/Jimmy) offered him a ticket out, he took it. They'd be on the run for a bit till a strange bird lad came with a proposal, a new "show" if you will. So they agreed, joined by 10 others.
After the first "act" was done, they were promised another in the future. He continued to follow the four he knew, always moving and never still for too long. Mostly fear that the past may finally grab hold of him.
He can't say for certain how he wound up on Hermitcraft or for how long he'll stay, but he has a good feeling about this new act.
Yes, one of the horses was once Bdubs and no he can't help fighting with him every chance he gets. This time it's about height and despite Bdubs being a fae, he's itty bitty
Hermit A Day May: Cub 🔭
Tidbit Log:
Cub doesn't quite know how old he is but he does remember his beginning. He was one of the first Vexes that his Evoker formed. Most days were dull with little action. That was until Scar joined the brood and they quickly became close, almost inseparable.
After the Evoker's death, most of the Vexes went their own ways. Some, like Cub and Scar, could hold a more humanoid form. However Cub would soon learn that while his was solid, Scar's was weak due to him not being a True Vex. While Cub tried to think of a solution, a stranger made himself known. This lad was TFC and he offered for Scar to stay with him while Cub looked for some way to help Scar.
When Scar was settled in, Cub went out. In his travels he heard of a mechanic that could be of some service and a traveling slime that could get him to where he needed to be. The mechanic, Doc M, was fascinated with such a challenge. In a few months, they created a semi-working solution. Before Cub left, Doc M made him an offer that him and his friend may come back. A new, possibly permanent home sounded lovely but he wanted Scar's opinion.
So back off he went to Scar who was not only relieved to see his good friend again but the offering of a place to stay, not to mention a way of "walking" which Cub had so delicacy made for him.
But of course even in a new home, a cunning Vex is still a cunning Vex. And so it began.
Cub later gets infected with Sculk. It worsened in season 10 and subsided going into season 11. It never really left and he's not exactly fond of it but Scar is a good comfort against it
Hermit A Day May: xB 🎻
Tidbit Log:
xB used to live among other guardians, as he was a Leviathan/Guardian "mutt" and essentially acted as their guard dog. However, to the elder guardian, xB was a threat to their throne. xB also didn't necessarily agree with their system, so he left. He found a nice spot by the cliffs of a coastal town which he called his home.
This was when the overworld was still healing, so villagers were discovering dyes and painting what they saw. Which would be xB, even though he didn't really interact with them. Of course later the new wave of villagers would assume he was an ancient guardian of some kind. Which he was, but not in the same sense they were thinking of.
For quite sometime nothing eventful really happened, he helped around the village from time to time and did what he could to keep them safe. That was until a stranger started coming around. Not quite human and not really a hybrid, but something internally different. Somehow a Fae had found his way into xB's little coastal village and at first he wasn't particularly thrilled of this Fae. But xB couldn't deny there was something eerily alluring about him and xB was oddly drawn to the Fae.
Eventually he did grow fond of the Fae, learning his name was Hypno and letting him stay longer and longer until he found his home with xB. The comfort wouldn't last forever, the first tip off that something had shifted was Keralis no longer visiting them and then new outsiders came who twisted the idea of xB's presence. It would lead to xB and Hypno being ran out.
For decades they roamed the lands, traveling and trading. But xB started to feel the exhaustion of being away from the sea for so long. When Hypno noticed the visual discomfort, he asked and xB tried to explain. It would lead to an agreement, they would split ways with a promise that when xB wakes up, Hypno will come find him. Knowing fae must uphold their end of any deal, xB left to go find a deep ice cave where he took a nice nap before having Hypno come fetch him.
He's home and family is now Hermitcraft. He sticks close to Hypno and Keralis, and as long as they are around he's not going anywhere.
A wee FedxB and Bishop for the soul <3 Yes, I did self indulge by giving him a Celtic/Irish tattoo. Only Hypno really knew about it, X kinda did since he has to screen all new hermits, and Keralis got the idea that he has half a sleeve in season 7 but didn't know the full extent until season 10. Which led into season 11 with his uniform now all the hermits know and were like "wait, is this new??" Hypno, far off in the distance, "Nope! He's always had that, I'd think I'd know"
(If you're curious what each section means/represents: Bishop, his loyal dog, guards his heart; the "Morning Star" represents a new dawn, yesterday is dead and you can only move forward; the Sailor's knot means the enduring loyalty of a lover to return home from the seas; Mist [or I guess a better term is Whips] guide his path and just like them, he helps guide others; the Dara knot means deep rooted wisdom which leads he's hand)
This is also what I meant by his tail changes colour (aka, I forgot he's in a temperate region and not a cool one. The only time his spikes change is in a warm region where they become darker)
Hermit A Day May: Ren 🎭
Tidbit Log:
Ren has an unlikely beginning. Back when hybrids were less prevalent, and generally mistreated, they would wound up in less than ideal places. Ren, being a painted/wild dog, was born into a chain of underground dog fights. Commonly fighting against other canines like Wolves or Foxes. It was a miracle that he lasted as long as he did and with minimal scars.
His ticket out would come in the form of an odd friendship. False was a part of an assassin's league in which she had been plotting her exit from. After meeting Ren, they start the execution of their leave. And... it could have gone worse? It wasn't the smoothest escape but they were both free. Or, well, for some time they were. They had a run in with a rapidly growing corporation. Ren, wanting to repay False, made a deal with Giga-corp. They let False go and he'd (loosely) work with them.
Giga-corp agreed and False was let go. But before she was ushered out she told Ren about a server that could give people like them a refuge and if Ren ever had the opportunity, take it.
Well, years past and that opportunity presented itself. Ren heeding False's words, managed to convince Giga-corp (under certain circumstances) to join the server. While Giga-corp does pester Ren from time to time, he's free for the most part. Slowly rebuilding himself but every quickly finding trust in False and his new family.
Ren has nonstop been looking for why he's mechanic wasn't working... Finally found the problem! Silly lil' armadillo
Hermit A Day May: Pearl 🌒
Tidbit Log:
Pearl is an Aussie dingo and way before Hermitcraft, she was a Scrapper. She's always had a knack for finding niche items and giving them homes. She did a lot of traveling in the desert where she could find so many different goodies.
Most of the time, she was bought out by villagers. But sometimes by hermits (Cub/Docm for Scar's wheelchair, Impulse for redstone components, and Cleo for fabrics), obviously not knowing them at the time but you get the point. Now, most of the deals Pearl made weren't a problem... until they were.
At first, when she stumbled across some hermits it was to trade but when she ran into trouble she asked to stay for a few days. A few days turned into a week, and then two, before she knew it Cleo was vouching for her to be given the chance to permanently stay if she wanted too. Cleo mentioned that she had worked with Pearl in the past and thought she'd make a fair addition to their slowly growing family. So, with permission and after a screening, Pearl stayed to make a new home (and to help hermits find their misplaced thingymabober or whatever). She does sometimes get teased with the "this is why we don't bring strays home and feed them" bit.
Most Scrappers had an "official mark" that was a coyote paw with a broken gear around it. It was a way to tell if someone was who they said they were, almost like an ID (along with dog tags). Tango is truly trying to help with redstone, even with his made up slang
Hermit A Day May: Scar 🎫
Tidbit Log:
Scar is an odd story. Vexes live in a small "bee hive" pocket dimension made by their Evoker. Most vexes that are there are called True Vex, which just means they were born a vex. Facade Vexes are vex which once were an Ally that was corrupted and blinded by rage, slowly turning them into a vex.
Scar is a Facade Vex which was corrupted by an Evoker. When he was stored in the dimension, Cub came to his defense and taught him the ropes. Through the years of being summoned by his Evoker, he "earned" the name Scar.
When Scar and Cub's Evoker had been killed, they were released from the dimension. While Cub had no problem taking on a more humanoid form, Scar struggled and was very weak due to most of his energy being from his Evoker. Cub could only help so much with his magic. He would go in search of some kind help, and after getting stuck in a different dimension and making it out, he came back with a semi solution.
Cub and Doc had quickly worked together on an all terrain wheelchair that's wheels could become legs like appendages. The other hermits were also very welcoming and helpful when Scar joined. They are never too far if Scar ever needs help, especially Cub.
Scar is slowly getting stronger and some days can use a cane/crutch paired with braces
