he’s keeping a list of everything he sees. it’s miles long by now, taking up enough space in his mind to fog his conversational focus and knock his mastery of charm down a few pegs. to buy himself a moment, he pretends to have been appreciating an architectural detail, places his hands on his hips, and winds up a smile.

‘ ah, ’ he says in place of a real answer. ‘ you can tell your father i have wednesday free, then. ’

HIS ANSWER DOESN’T SURPRISE HER . what’s to come with great self proclamation should be a test of heavy words . but she doesn’t feel the need to hold him to one JUST YET . ❝ wednesday . right . ❞ after a quick glance his way , it’s enough to notice the structure he’s looking at ---------- nothing more than a fountain with a sculpted M twice in the middle of the concealed pond . ❝ you’ve got a GOOD EYE . ❞

KEEP IT IN MIND . she wasn’t really expecting him to be home so early . it isn’t a good excuse to defend why she brought her work HOME with her . a silver briefcase that opens to reveal the MASTER CONTROL of the dream she’s immersed herself in . a solid three hours asleep in the real world was about two and a half days in the dream world . even though she’s already awake , she’s not FULLY AWAKE yet , but she’s desperate to pack away everything before he can see .

❝ DAMON . ❞ she hoped she didn’t sound too alarmed . a quick swipe of her forehead and she stands from her desk , hiding the case UNDER her table . sweet smile greets him . ❝ you’re home early ---------- everything okay ? ❞

HIS HANDWRITING IS VERSATILE , at least , according to him and according to cob . she likes him , she does ---------- but she’ll have to keep an eye on him and his ADAPTABLE NATURE . it takes one to know one , as the old saying goes . it something she thinks about as she guides him through a floor of MONTAGUE MUSCLE’S main headquarters .

COULD HAVE , yes . but she didn’t . extraction was a practice she’s been doing for years . this wasn’t something she DIDN’T know how to do . perhaps damon was only worried about the destruction going under caused after doing it for as long as she has been . the DAMAGES constant sleep , dream , and wake causes on the BODY was extensive enough . as a doctor ———- damon would know that .

❝ DAMON . ❞ her voice and tone a warning . if it were anything else , she’d allow him to lecture her about it , and even APOLOGIZE to him for putting him under so much stress . but this was her CAREER . this was the one thing she knew she could do better than anyone else . ❝ i did what i had to do . i’m not dead am i ? ———- i knew what i was doing … ❞

THE BRIDGE OF HER NOSE IS PINCHED . the action follows a rough RUB of the eyes , as well as a disappointed grunt . two hours in the REAL WORLD asleep makes up for almost two whole days asleep following the 1:20 RATIO . forty hours of pressure applied to her brain is a sensation she had grown used to over the years of practice . the DISAPPOINTMENT comes from her lack of success lately .

A MUMBLED CURSE UNDER HER BREATH . pulling herself up from her recline , she detaches herself from the machine . the pen and MESSY stack of loose note papers are pulled from the side of the table and she’s quick to jot down the mess of information she’s pulled from her THIRD time in . ANYTHING is handy , times on the clocks , the amount of screws installed into the motherboard panel of the hard drive , the colour of the wallpaper … the list can go on . BUT , time is something she had so very little of , and something MONTAGUE MUSCLE had none of . her father always said ———-

❝ gina this company wasn’t built on grace periods for mistakes . every second wasted is an brick taken from the foundation of the company . ❞

IN SHORT , her job wasn’t necessarily easy anymore . it was getting harder to stay on top of things . nowadays , obligations were coming in faster than she was FULFILLING . there were no GRACE PERIODS anymore . mistakes weren’t just treated as a slap on the wrist when business was booming . the need for EXTRACTION was greater for the benefit of the company now more than ever !

ONE LAST CRACK OF HER JOINTS , and she sits back down in her chair . what stares back at her is the pile of notes awaiting for her TWO HOURS from now . totem in hand , she sets the automatic timer for the knock out and counts down the seconds in her head once again . EIGHT SECONDS until she becomes two days OLDER in her subconscious .
