NIA LONG Love Jones (1997) costume design by Shawn Barton
Our mantra for the rest of the year.
Ladies I need you to write me a list of your favourite female youtubers because I am struggling! I need women telling me things!
Mine are:
Jess (Roots and Refuge farm aka all my gardening knowledge)
李子柒 Liziqi (separatist heaven, magical food growing and cooking)
STRANGE ÆONS (lesbian content)
Jenny Nicholson (fun analysis of media + themeparks)
Lindsay Ellis (in-depth analysis of media)
Melissa Norris (homesteading content)
I also like SarahZ, tiffanyferg, Karolina Żebrowska and Bernadette Banner but I need MORE and youtube algorythm is giving me NOTHING
Update with my new faves!
Last few weeks I’ve only watched women-made content and I’ve seen women build a house, build every piece of furniture imaginable, build a sink, care for a food forest, carve utensils, chop and store wood, grow and process so much food, clear areas after a flood, plant and care for trees, go together on adventures. I am honestly so high on women content right now, I don’t think there’s a single thing women can’t do, even the tiniest, weakest-looking women can do more than a non-women can. Here’s some of that with links!
GET HANDS DIRTY : She will build anything and my lesbian heart is weak for her: Watch her build the most beautiful sink you’ve ever seen!
Anne of All Trades: She has spoon carving classes! She will show you how to make utensils out of wood! Also watch her build a whole tiny house in 7 days! + Garden and fermenting content
HannahLeeDuggan: Life in a cabin and van-travel content, but she also shows you how to make paper, how she builds shelving, cabinets, fixes up her entire off-grid cabin by hand!
PlantAmnestyBrand: I cannot stress this one enough: TREE CARE!!! How to properly prune and care for trees, how to have healthy and productive environments, how to maintain native plant gardens, I learned all my tree facts here! If you ever plan to grow a tree watch this!
Mother The Mountain Farm: how I imagine separatism would look like, I am living my dreams in these videos, two sister care for a food forest in Australia, make their own food and care for the land and create art and clothing
I’m on mobile so no links, sorry, but:
Ask a Mortician- Caitlin Doughtry has some fascinating videos about iconic corpses, stories about tragedies, and various info about different death practices and beliefs. (She also has 2 books and a podcast)
Yoga with Adrienne - for something totally different. Free yoga and meditation videos fuck yeah. I really love her focus on doing what feels good and encouraging listening to your body.
Ghil Dirthalen- for my fellow geeks who love Dragon Age video games. She reads out allllll the codex found in the games, analyzes trailers, and has done book reviews of the novels based in the games universe.
Fairyland Cottage- sweet and relaxing channel with lots of tips for slower and more eco friendly living.
Sandy Allnock- watercolor tutorial videos! If you’re looking for a fun new hobby to try watercolors are a good one
And for another complete shift: Fundie Fridays- a woman who digs into religious cult groups and their members and actions (while sometimes doing her makeup). There’s some really fascinating and scary stuff here. Child brides, mass baby graves due to forced incest, suicide, ect.
We have so many people on both our lists! I also love “She is of the Woods” who focuses on herbalism, sustainable foraging practices, and a non-capitalistic approach to learning these skills!

i think a society failed its youth if they feel old (derogatory) at 20
im just gonna throw this out there ... youre not seen as old ... when youre 30 in like most social situations with a wide age spread.
i think it is really easy to get annoyed at like 19 year olds who feel like theyre over the hill but i think it’s crazy our youth obsessed culture has made literal teens feel this way.
i think this kind of behavior like thinking youre super old when youre really very young can only come from like being overwhelmed while also almost completely separated from actual older people as a whole.
i think if you feel old at 19 when covid is over you should volunteer at an old folks home and get to know the old people in your community maybe.
no good can come from not knowing the elderly in your community. no good can come from thinking a 50 year old is the elderly. thats my opinion.
the great loneliness the young people in this world feel i believe can be matched by the great loneliness of the elderly.
Former dietary aid here: working with the elderly really makes you know what old is. People around me in my age group (and even a decade older) saying they're old makes me feel like I'm old but I remind myself of what old actually is.
Also, when covid is over it would be really nice for everyone who can to volunteer at an old folks home! They are very lonely and isolated during normal times and it is exacerbated right now since families can't visit. Yes they have their own communities within the building but it's still nice to have outside visitors for them.
very important
Reminder to self:
Your writing seems boring and predictable because
You wrote it
You’ve read it like eight million times.
A person who has never read it before does not have this problem.

a list of numbers that don’t define you:
your height
your weight
your age
your bra size
your body count
how old you are when you got your first _________
how old you were when you first experienced _________
what percentage you made on your last test
what percentage you ended up having in a class
how many likes your posts get
how many followers you have
what size you wear in anything: dresses, pants, shirts, socks, skirts, etc
how many calories you ate today
pretty much any number ever
you are not defined by a number. don’t let them have power over you. they are not who you are. they do not make you any better or any worse as a person. you are far too complex and wonderful for something like that to determine your worth, ability, beauty, etcetera.
Daddy and son
“The most dangerous thing a woman can possess is self-worth. Liking her own body, trusting her own instincts, valuing her own time and company, thinking she’s interesting and special, entering business and personal relationships based only on mutual benefit and respect. Sometimes this leads to advertisers having no idea how to corner us. If we don’t hate ourselves, how will we know what to buy? Sometimes self-worth leads to violence against us. Sometimes, though, self-worth sets us free.”
