Hi there! I found this lovely friend on a hike in northern California along the Sierra Nevada foothills. I have no idea what it is. I thought Crane fly but realized it has too many wings for one of those. Can you id this critter?

You are correct that crane flies only have two wings. It's a hangingfly, Bittacus chlorostigma. They are a type of scorpionfly and they're predators :)
Unlike crane flies (which taste like salt and dust), hangingflies are lemon flavored

Nah nvm it's actually goo. The compound secreted by this moth is the main ingredient in highly adhesive, self-inflating "murder bubbles," as seen in Incredibles (2004) ⬇️
