An Artist Spotlight Actress and Showhost Ellie Lee
Sup y’all. Today we’re introducing one of our new segments, “An Artist Spotlight”. We wanna sit down and talk with talents that we personally enjoy, and ask them questions that we are genuinely curious about.. i.e. not stuff like what’s your favorite ice cream flavor. (Btw, if you have an artist to recommend, shoot us an email at [email protected])
For our very first artist, we present to you Ellie Lee. You may recognize her from her YouTube channel here, where she does hilarious monologues about different issues, or as MTVk’s Top Ten Countdown host, where she recently interviewed KPop stars “BAP”, or from her blog yo-ellie.tumblr.com… or maybe you’ve just seen her running around the streets of NYC walking one of the many dogs that she has. Either way, if you don’t know her yet, Ellie’s def someone to keep your eye on cause she’s hustling hard at her art and has got the talent to back it up. She’s also acted in various plays, one coming up called The Lighter Side of Dark.
We got to roll around Union Square with this rising star today, and got to know her a bit more personally. Enjoy.

Q. Let’s jump right into it. Why’re you in acting? A. Haha alright, let’s do this. Hm, I’m realizing more and more that acting is so much more than I thought it was; it’s so much more than fame and fortune. Al Pacino said that any day that you can act is a good day. Ah, I love it, everything about it: performing, being in character, learning the craft, honing it, differentiating between what’s real and what’s fake…I love it. Now ask me how I feel when I’m acting!
Q. What do you feel like when you’re acting? A. AH! Great question. I feel like my body is made up of doors, tiny minuscule doors, and when I’m acting and it’s raw and real, I feel like these doors flap open and it’s like I’m literally flying. I know it’s cheesy but there’s really no other way to explain it.
Q. Who is someone in the acting field that is consistently influencing you? A. Well, I can give you those big time names like Kate Winslet, Merryl Streep, etc… but for me honestly, when I watch people in the local theater and in my acting class who really move me, I literally feel like there’s this part of me that opens up. I love watching these people living in the moment and just being honest. That shiz inspires the eff out of me haha… I love local talent, love watching plays, and love watching theater.
Q. Are you different on your YouTube channel than in person? A. No. I don’t think so. Honestly, I think the reason why alot of my followers follow me (both my blog and my YouTube channel) is because I’m real and honest and I say it how it is. I never want to be a person who’s fake and putting up a front. I’m me. I’m messy, I stumble alot, my roommate sometimes hates me- don’t write that, she’ll hate me- but I’m also working hard and trying my best to get better.
Q. Alright perfect segue to more personal questions. Your worst personality trait? A. Uhm, can I give you more than one? …cause there’s alot. Hm. I’m very selfish… and I think alot of it is because I’m so focused on trying to make ME happen… and I think it’s sometimes destroying me. So I really have to take a step back once in awhile— just be like woah how about you stop being such a selfish biotch and help the world out a little. Also, I’m really scatter-brained, it’s embarrassing. Like right now there are 20 things on my mind…
Q. Are guys one of the 20 things? What do you look for in a guy? A. Uhm, physically, I like height. I don’t want him shorter than 5’9? Personality-wise, I LOVE humor. It’s so important to me! He has got to be witty. You can look like my butt, but if you’re funny…. oh! We are going to talk! …and we’re gonna talk for a longggg time (wink) haha.
Q. Most unattractive feature in a guy? A. There’s a few… but I’d have to go with temper as being one of the top.
Q. When’s the last time you went on a date? A. Mm, last week (big smile).
Q. What’s the worst date you’ve been on? A. One time this guy took me to a sushi place. It was one of those conveyor belt places, where all the sushis are divided by different prices. He kept subtly hinting at not picking the highest priced plates.. he would say stuff like, “Damn… those silver plates are alot of money!”. And then, after that fantastic dinner, we went to a bar… and as he finished his second beer he suggested we go upstairs to watch TV. I looked him straight in the eye and told him ” I know you don’t wanna watch TV, you just wanna have sex.” And he promptly replied with a “Yea, that’s exactly what I wanna do.” When I said no, he said, “Okay, I guess we’re done here”. And I left. He texts me a bit later saying, “If you change your mind, let me know.” to which I replied, “No, I ain’t changing my mind.” to which he promptly shot back, “That’s why I said let me know if you change it.” Hahaha.
Q. What’s your most attractive feature as a girlfriend? A. I’m super caring… like when I love, I LOVE. It’s never half-assed. When I’m with someone, all my chips are all in. I’m full on, immersed; I jump straight into the pool. I’m freakin swimming laps actually… while most of the time he’s running, or I guess swimming, away from me…..
Q. Best compliment you’ve gotten? A. I’m a really good kisser. I get it all the time haha.
Q. That must mean you kiss all the time? A. I guess so. Haha just kidding. But I am a great kisser.
Q. Your best body part? A. I got insane collar bones.
Q. Do you think your profession is attractive to guys? A. I don’t know, but I’m proud of what I do. I’m not embarrassed at all; I always say that I’m trying to be an actress… and I even include that I’m a dog-walker in there. If the guy doesn’t like it, i don’t care, I’ll just be like “Whatever, I’ll see you later.”
Q. Oh, but you’ll still be seeing him later then? A. OH. Uh…… uhh… oh.
