Im a zenos enjoyer but also g'raha, hythlodeaus, erenville, and wuk lamat are all pretty great
It would be so wild if, in evercold, the wol would be allowed to lean into the fact that they're exactly who Zenos believed them to be in the end
I know that it would never happen bc some ppl would genuinely lose their marbles BUT it would be cool. And it would work. Bc the wol is like scary powerful at this point and they've killed a scary amount of ppl in cold blood.
I remember when the Garleans were yelling at WoL for killing their friends in Praetorium and calling them a monster who mowed down everyone in their way and me being like, "I did do that, yes," and Some Players being like, "Yeah, but my WoL is different because they were on the Good Side of Justice and y'all were In The Way," and me like, "That later speech by Zenos went over your head, didn't it?"
Judging by a lot of players serious interpretation of Zenos as a character: yeah

ffxiv had a major patch which added tons of new things (story chapters, raids, dungeons, etc) but one of the unintentional additions was a bug that spawned a bunch of level 1 deers with no name in coerthas western highlands.

the . is called the . because it's what appears in the chat log when you emote at it;
the . has no purpose. it has no intention behind its existence. it exists to aimlessly wander through the snow, soon to be snuffed out by the cruel hands of square enix realizing they can't let a bug like this exist in their bestselling mmo in 2025. it is a temporary, wholly spontaneous spectacle. and it is beautiful. we all love the . #ourthe .

I'm kind of meh about the cyberpunk aesthetics and agree that we could use some more focus back on Tural, but from a narrative standpoint, I love Alexandria.
Dawntrail is a story about cultural connection and understanding, but for the first half, all the different groups you meet, the key aspects of their cultures are fun and interesting but harmless - the Pelupelu love of commerce, the Yok Huy views on death. (the Mamool Ja and their dependence on the Blessed Siblings is the exception). But the key points of Alexandrian culture, the dependence on Regulators, souls as a currency, and erasure of the dead, are antithetical to the way both Eorzean and real-life cultures do things. Making them even more controversial is their European-esque aesthetic, coupled with the fact that they plunked their dome down in the Fantasy Americas, leading to a resemblance to real-life colonialism. But this is complicated further by the fact that their home Shard is destroyed, making them both would-be colonizers and post-apocalyptic refugees at the same time. Even if we wanted to kick them out of Tural or something, we can't, because there's nowhere for them to go back to.
So the second half of Dawntrail and the patches is about learning to coexist with a culture that is vastly different. Its easy enough to accept another culture when they're represented by fun festivals and happy merchants and the like, but what about one where their core views clash with yours? Can you still accept them as neighbors then, or will you feel the need to draw a line in the sand?
When I see fans with strong reactions against Alexandria and its story, on one hand I find it kind of encouraging because it means people are being affected by the story - if you don't like the way Alexandria treats the dead than you probably get that grief and memory are key themes to FF14. On the other hand it has me a bit worried about how people in real-life would react to a culture that is actually different from their's in a way that can't be resolved easily.
Things that happen in Dawntrail that sound like shitposts:
You are invited to meddle in the affairs of a major political power. These events with extremely serious ramifications for global politics include gardening, animal herding, mountain climbing, and a bake-off.
Night City travels diagonally through time and fuses with a small town in Arizona.
An uplifting Hollywood movie pop-gospel song about unity plays over a montage of you and your friends building a bomb.
You down a suspiciously beaver-themed energy drink and briefly go super saiyan.
The temporally anomalous catboy dad deepthroats two scoops of nothing-flavored ice cream in an attempt to ease the tension at his work friend's family reunion. Somehow, this actually achieves the desired effect.
An AI-generated ghost attempts to burn all of the world's people and resources to extend the life of their metaverse Disneyland for other AI-generated ghosts. In response, you proceed to fight a robotic biblically-accurate angel inside their mind palace.

“Mrs R” was the pseudonym of Phyllis Shafer, a Kansas City local who helped found the Phoenix Society for Individual Freedom in 1966, a full three years before Stonewall. I’m overturning the fast lane you are trying to pave to heaven. Everyone is taking the scenic route”
I like this take a lot but what I was thinking at the time was like. The Ascians were a society of people that in a lot of ways were more preoccupied with ‘what if I could do this’ rather than ‘should I do this’ a la Jurassic park. Their utopia was too utopian and they had too much control over their environment, to the point that they were fully creating beings as playthings and had so far separated from most of what is colloquially considered to be ‘humanity’ that they had lost their way. I think venat wanted her people to learn about community again, about love and relying on each other, and, as I’m interpreting OP’s intent, finding joy in the small things in life again.
