Right-- She was no longer her Princess, but her Queen. Certain habits did die hard, and she had spent so long being determined to protect her Princess that it felt like it was always on the tip of her tongue to refer to the Queen as such. Even when she had just been Usagi, she had still been Minako's dearest Princess, the one that she would have given life and limb to protect.
And hadn't she? How many times had she died all in the name of ensuring the safety of the Princess, now Neo-Queen, Serenity? Not that she was truly keeping track, and not that it would have mattered. Minako, the Princess of Venus, would gladly give her life up again and again if that meant securing the safety of her Queen and the future of their people.
She wasn't trying to put on airs and act like there was suddenly distance between them. It was simply what felt... if not natural, then perhaps right considering the difference of their stations. And to be called on it so swiftly and bluntly was more than just a little embarrassing.
"Queen-- Usagi-chan." Her cheeks colored slightly at the affectionate nickname. It was one that both Usagi and Chibi-Usa used for her. A term of endearment that was both dear to her heart, and one that Minako would have thought them to outgrow long ago. There was something sweet about it, even if it felt inappropriate to hear her Queen saying it.
"You are, of course." And she gave a stiff nod that was a poor attempt to not bow to the other. "Normally you would inform us of your intentions, though. We can't very well keep our Queen safe if you run off without a word."
If a walk was what Usagi was looking for, though, then Minako would gladly oblige.
Brows knit together in disappointment for a moment as she believes Minako-chan is about to disregard her request. Lips even part for her to object, but she is stopped as her friend quickly….corrects herself? It wasn’t that what she’d done was necessarily wrong, it was simply that the Princess and Sailor of Venus was trying to be considerate in agreeing to her friend’s (and queen’s) request.
And the Queen of Crystal Tokyo was appreciative, even if it did sadden her a bit to think their relationship might now be one of strict formalities and loyalty born of obligation.
It seemed to matter little that she’d resorted to calling her friend by that old nickname, one that Serenity had refused to abandon over a century later. She’d noticed the faint color that crawled into the Sailor of Love’s cheeks, but it still seemed that the nickname did little to ease the other’s mind or coax her out of those formalities. Had Minako only referred to her as 'Usagi-chan' because it was a request from her queen? Rather than recognizing she was still that same, odango-haired girl she’d met and befriended back in junior high? Rather than remembering the other life they had lived together before they’d all been reborn?
“You weren’t inside, and I didn’t know where the other senshi were,” she answered simply with a casual shrug of her shoulders, as if that were all the answer that would be needed to explain herself. “And while I may no longer have the ability to transform into Sailor Moon, I am still capable of a few things,” she reminded her friend with a wink.
Not that she expected Minako-chan to be satisfied with that answer. But had she not stepped forward to wield the Silver Crystal and continue to defend Tokyo and its people?
She supposed this would be a good time to settle for a compromise.
Sighing softly, the queen turned, staring out over the bay to watch as the water rippled and glistened, nearly as brilliant as the crystal city that was being constructed as it reflected the sun’s light. “I promise to be more…communicative going forward. I will inform you or one of the other senshi if there is something I wish to do instead of allowing it to slip my mind.”

“How could I not be?”
There was no stopping the teen from wiggling her upper body in a sort of small dance as she gave a satisfied bob of her head. Hotaru was lucky she’d actually remembered to finish the bite of cake before giving her answer.
The enthusiasm with which she ate the pretty, pastel pastry only emphasized just how tasty she found it. To think that Hotaru-chan and Chibiusa had baked such a delicious treat on their own was incredible! Though, if she had to guess, Usagi would have been willing to bet that they received at least a little bit of aid from Mama Ikuko. Not that that was an issue — she knew her mom delighted in seeing Chibiusa’s friends playing with her around the house, just as she’d always been so welcoming of Usagi’s own friends.
The bubbly blonde didn’t hesitate as she scooped another bite of cake into her mouth, savoring the flavor as the spongy pastry seemed to nearly melt in her mouth. She hadn’t imagined it would be possible, but Hotaru-chan and Chibiusa had certainly outdone themselves; she hadn’t thought they’d be able to make a dessert more delicious than the last.
It might have even rivaled Mako-chan's baking!
“Say….” Her voice trailed as she finished her bite, nose scrunching up and brows furrowing as a thought suddenly crossed her mind. “You and Chibiusa have been doing a lot of baking lately. Why so much? Is there a special occasion? Are you two making a dessert for a classmate or something? Oh! Is it a boy?”
