You may know that media for tweens and teens are disappearing. And with unrestricted internet access, kids are exposed to media they shouldn't be consuming. It's incredibly common for me as a teacher's assistant to hear kids talk about watching "Baddies USA" and "Love Island" and shit like that. It becomes even more disturbing considering the fact that kids with unrestricted internet access like this are prime targets for predators. I mean let's be real, we were all fascinated by older teens and adults as kids. When you get to a certain age, you want to distance yourself from the things that are "baby-ish" and uncool. But kids today are going from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Bluey to Euphoria and Singles Inferno. There really isn't an in-between.

Same goes for music as well. Kids are listening to popular artists on TikTok and Instagram. Apps they really shouldn't be on, yet their parents let them mindlessly scroll anyways. And on these apps, there are some pop artists that have VERY explicit songs. And when you really compare them, the main reason some artists fly under parents radar is the fact that they're white, whereas a black artist making explicit songs would be completely inappropriate for their children to listen to. But that's a convo for another time.

Gen Alpha today are seeing older teens and adults online and it's essentially hijacking their brains the same way the internet affects everybody. Watching the endless stream of content in their free time. Creators using trendy and sexually explicit music in their videos. To be clear, I am not saying that these artists are even remotely in the wrong for making explicit music. But, I do think its the parents responsibility to protect their kids from sexual media. And that means restricting certain music, TV shows, content creators, etc.

So yeah, Sabrina is gonna keep bending it, Ice Spice is gonna keep throwing it, Zara is gonna keep shaking it, Sombr is gonna keep... doing whatever tf he does. And parents unfortunately are gonna keep letting their kids go to their concerts. I don't really have a solution when it comes to the absence of tween and teen media, but I know this ain't it.

XG is the best co-ed group hands down!

There really isn't another way to put it. Xtraordinary Genes are redefining idol culture and style. If you haven't heard of them, they are a Japanese co-ed group that mixes dance-pop, y2k, hip-hop and futurism with the most breathtaking visuals and performances I've ever seen.⋆.°𖦹⋆✮⋆.°

I've noticed that companies will sometimes advertise their groups as different and unique at first, but then pivot to a safer, more profitable concept later. Not XG though! They get stranger and weirder with every new comeback, and it worked! They've found their niche and they've found their fan base.

If you guessed performing artists with strong dance skills who found peak success after a sexy re-brand, you'd be correct because that is exactly what I noticed!

Now let me be very clear, I have no issue with female music artists doing sexy concepts, obviously. I only find issue in the fact that it doesn't matter if I swapped out these girl's entire closets and styling team, their performance outfits and music videos would still look essentially the same. Cropped tops and bikini tops paired with the lowest rise mini-shorts or baggy pants, flowy, natural hair, and a youthful, less dramatic style of make-up.

So, I have been thinking about why all of these soloists and girl groups are doing the same thing. The answer seemed pretty straight forward; hot girls with a strong stage presence are insanely profitable. Even though the artists I listed are all current, this isn't new at all. This is just what is "in" right now. And my prediction is that more artists are going to pivot in this specific styling direction. Until the general public gets tired of it, it's going to continue to sell.

Re-branding has become a sort of phenomenon recently. Especially since everyone posts their lives online now, you can track an artists switch up in branding just by scrolling back on their social media. Sometimes the change is gradual, and sometimes its instantaneous and slaps you in the face.

I think that Kateye, Girlset, and Dayoung had the most drastic comeback, completely changing their aesthetics. With Tate and Jennie, you can see the progression of their extended careers. Tate posted all of her progress online, and Jennie being a member of the world's biggest girl group, you can see the transition as they find success as solo artists. Finally, no na and Say Now are newer on the scene. They already had vision and, like many other girl groups, are re-working the aesthetics and brand of others in the same genre.

The choreographies are sharp, sexy, and very difficult. All of these girls are exceptionally talented and dedicated to their performance. But it seems like the teams behind them think that there is only one route to success for them. What good is all of this diverse talent if they are all doing the same thing, y'know?
