Tutorial: Making the Shot - Pleasant Surprise (Complete Pack)
Hey everyone! So for the past few weeks, I’ve been releasing my first video tutorials regarding making an animated shot from scratch - to its final image. I decided to put them all in one Post so its easy to find! The shot is a remake from a film I did years ago, Crayon Dragon. I hope you guys find this useful in the future! Also if there’s some topics you’d like me to cover, please send them over here! [email protected] I’ll also try and post tutorials and tips on sbworkshop.tumblr.com so I can just focus on adding my art on my own blog.
The shot we’ll be making:
Now here are the video tutorials in order.
1. ANIMATION
2. COLORING (LINELESS STYLE)
3. LANTERNS, EFFECTS, EXPORTING, MISC.
4. BACKGROUND PAINTING
5. FINAL COMPOSITING
i only made this because i see people do it so often so i thought i’d point it out chubby legs = no thigh gap i hope this helps !
Gonna post this silly little tutorial thing here too, just in case it helps anyone else out or if anyone was curious about how I personally like to colour stuff!
Enjoy reading my chicken scratch :^)
@dufferbrothers I just wanna talk.
just for the Heck of it I made a video of how I draw hands
a grass tutorial!!
i like to make grass this way :y
it’s not painterly, but it’s fun!
Any art tips for a fellow artist? Maybe some things on how your style works? I'm a big fan of it (your art style) and I love scrolling through it, even if I've already seen it a million times.
I’m by no means a teacher but I can give some tips! They’re mostly going to be about emotion and hair since I had another ask asking about those!
1. Faces
Different people have different facial features: larger/smaller jaw lines, narrow/large nose, how the eyes are slanted or how big they are. So an easy way to have to people look different from one another is to give them different facial structures!
It can give a lot of personality and diversity to a character design!
2. Hair
So for that one ask asking about hair, I have a system to drawing a hair style which is: hairline/bangs, any hair at the sides, the outer layer of hair, and then details like facial hair or texture lines.
Hair has weight to it, so when someone has straight hair, I draw it like its a drape, it bends to whatever it is laying on. For curly hair, I try to show a lot of volume with it, since it’s majority air.
For most tho, I try to keep it relatively simple, since I just think it looks nicer that way; less lines gives it a simpler, more cartoony look.
3. Emotions
When doing an expression, every aspect of the face comes into play: eyebrows, mouth, teeth, wrinkles, the eyes, and even the pupils.
Just adding little details: dilated pupils, a wrinkle where the mouth curls up, emanata (fancy word for symbols that emanate outwards from characters to show their internal state), you can convey more emotion!
A combo of multiple of these things will allow you to covey a whole range of emotions in various degrees. The more exaggerated these features are, the easier it will be for your viewer to see exactly what your characters inner thoughts are.
Another thing I sometimes do is leave out a facial feature entirely, like the mouth or eyes.
I do this when I want to show an extreme emotion.
And that’s all the tips I have! Hope this helps and thanks for the ask!
Oh my god, it feels like everything became 10x easier
How to draw Mermaids for MerMay coming up next month?
Thanks for the ask @dragonfire810 !I don’t have all that much to say about it, but I can give you a few quick tips about drawing mermaids!
I’m going to start with the anatomy since I find it’s always the best place to start. So, here is a mermaid skeleton!
The way I see it, a mermaid’s tail is going to be like an extension of the spine, just like any other tail is, but there should probably be some rib-like bones for structure. This turns out to be a bit like rotated fish anatomy, but even more like the anatomy of a snake.
Remember to keep a little bit of a butt/waist in there, that’s part of why we kept the pelvis in the anatomy; things look kinda funny if it’s all flat. The muscular part of the tail should be as long or longer than a pair of legs would be, so about the length from the top of the head to the (non-existent) crotch. The fins will continue beyond this point.
Now since the tail is built a lot like a snake it’s going to move a lot like a snake, meaning any bending or transitions are going to be smooth and make smooth shapes. No sharp transitions like at a knee bend because there are no knees to bend!
Because of the curvy shapes this makes, you’re going to want to keep straights and curves in mind to keep your drawing looking appealing.
You can learn more about straights and curves in my drawing tips from animation tutorial.
Now we get to the fins. I tend to do very simple fins, but you can get really creative with them! I highly recommend looking at real fish for inspiration, there are some crazy fish out there. But whatever shape you choose, keep the consistency/thickness of the fin in mind; they tend to bend and move like thick fabric or large petals or leaves.
And last but not least, I, personally, really like giving my mermaids a full set of cloths on top. If you wanna’ brush up on clothing you can check out my fabric and clothing tutorial.
I hope these tips are helpful. Have a great MerMay!!
I made an art tutorial on how to draw hijab and hijabis!
Big consideration needs to be given to their culture, their family, and how they approach their faith (if this is for a story) to determine how they would wear hijab
