When I was at the natural history museum, the fossil section had stickers on the glass to engage children - things like "Flap your arms like a pterodactyl" or "Measure your hand against the mosasaurus." However the first of these I encountered, which I found alarming and threatening without context, was a sticker reading "Struggle like you are stuck in a tar pit"

I feel like more bright colors, an exclamation mark, or a more whimsical font choice would've also helped here to indicate that it is a Fun Activity For Children. Instead it felt like getting instructed in my inevitable fate by a road sign

For all the Christian symbolism in Iron Lung, I wanna point out all the Jewish aspects Simon was given, accidentally or otherwise:

The argument between believe in god vs faith - There is a Jewish story that goes like this; an old man sees an argument between two Jews where one argues that god exists and the other doesn't. The next day he sees them walking into a temple for Friday services. He walks to them and asks the agnostic Jew if he is actually going in. The Jew asks back "Of course. What does god have to do with my faith?" Simon repeatedly avoids questions about god but still prays to his mom. He disagrees the teaching of the father but still kisses the pendant when he hears about his brother's passing. He doesn't believe in higher power anymore but he still believes in the people.

Avoiding the call, picking fights and being a general disasters - I can't stress enough how much of a disaster some of our Jewish heroes are. Eliyahu kept pissing off every authority figure he meets, including god. Moses lost his temper the first time he made the ten commandments and broke the tablets stone against stone. Our forefather fought an angel and to this day I've never been told why. Simon cursing, slamming into things and then apologize to items he hurt reminds me of my Torah studies.

I see you. I see you. Agreed - There is a lot of Jewish literature between god and it's people (duh) and so much of it is just about being seen. Multiple times in the Talmud god approves of arguing with him. At one point he even boasts in happiness "my children have outsmarted me!" Simon actually seeing the pinhole god as he is, not as what he was taught to see, and being rewarded with being saved and honestly, not going that insane by eldritch horror standards, felt less like a Jesus metaphor because of how much it was on equal grounds.

Being the every man put in an impossible situation - I can't stress enough how many of our heroes are just people put in terrible circumstances. Lod wasn't a superman, he was just a guy trying to keep traditions in a land of sin. Ruth was determined to make the journey to Israel instead of returning to the comfort of her family for the sake of her faith and in laws. Even Moses, who was destined for greatness, wasn't from a great lines of kings. He was born to an enslave family that risked everything to save him. Simon wasn't anything special either, he wasn't even an Eden child by birth. The movie heavily hinted that he moved there with his mom from Mars. He is just a man trying to fight against all odds and stay hopeful. Which brings me to:

Raging against the dying of the light - A quintessential part of being Jewish is being too stubborn to fucking die. We've been through multiple banishments, massacres, child kidnappings and general erasure from history and we're still here kicking, complaining and being hopeful regardless of what the world brings us. When Simon refused to go down without a fight and still continue to try to find a way to save himself reminded me so much of my family's history that I had to take a moment to myself when the movie was over. He created a fucking tree in a dead universe out of sheer hope. That's a old testament miracle if I ever heard one.
