"Mm… just a little," he murmured in reply, voice still drowsy with the male fresh out of sleep. He sat wordlessly for a few moments on the bed once he was free of his sheets. He huffed at the casual observation that was made, reaching out to take back his sheets. It was only after a few moments more that he moved to leave the small bed and go about the act of replacing the sheet upon it.
"You smell nice tonight," Levi finally noted in observation as he tucked the sheet beneath the far corners of his bed. He spared a look to the red LED of his bedside clock, pursing his lips for a few moments. "You’re home early." Though a statement, his voice rose with the lilt of a question.
He avoided answering the question.
She left him to the task of tidying up those sheets, leaning her head to one side to remove her earring. "Oh, you like it?" Zoe's tone picked up to a happier tone, leaning to the other side to pluck away the other earring. On the nights that she does wear fragrance, the scent tends to fade by the time she returns home.
"Mmhm," Those earrings are tucked away into her pocket, which will likely find their way into the laundry basin if not removed by someone far more thoughtful toward the household chore of cleaning. "The calculations will take longer to run than the shift, so we decided to break until tomorrow." She reaches up to rest her hand upon his shoulder, a gesture she hopes he finds reassuring. "Don't worry about it. I've got plenty of personal time to use." Offering a few pats, she started strolling toward the hallway. "If you're not gonna go back to sleep, come out here with me."
Zoe held out the glass of water now that her roommate is awake, shrugging her shoulders free from her jacket after he took the glass from her. “I wanted you to wake up,” She answered simply, folding the jacket over her forearm. “You looked like you were having another one of those dreams.”
She took the glass back once he was finished, setting the glass aside. She crouched down alongside the bed, resting her chin upon the mattress, watching him despite the fact that he turned away. The scent of her honey-and-orange perfume lingered—she must have been sent home quite early.
"…Was it those giants, again?" Oh, those charming creatures—the things Levi thought up of, in that ill noggin of his.
Levi didn’t answer immediately. Curling up on his side, he faced the wall rather than his roommate. Gradually, his heart rate began to slow down and his breathing began to stabilize. Closing his eyes, he released a sigh.
"I’m fine," he muttered, though he wasn’t sure if he was trying to convince Zoe or himself on the matter. Taking a deep breath, he twisted over to lay on his other hip, facing Zoe instead. Reaching out, he let his fingertips lightly brush against her cheek before raising his hand higher to move her hair away from her face. Leaning forward, he brushed his lips to hers before settling back.
The physical contact calmed him further. It was real, and after those nightmares (no, they weren’t nightmares, just dreams, everything was okay) he needed a dose of reality. Sitting up, he untangled his legs from the sheets around them. “It was. But don’t worry about it.”
Zoe lifted her chin off the mattress as Levi turned toward her. Her eyes met his own, showing him a confident smile as she felt the tips of his fingers against her cheek. She jut her chin forward to meet his lips, only easing into a stand after allowing him to break away.
"Getting sweet on me all of a sudden?!" Her tone is playful, not expecting an answer out of him. Her jacket is left upon the floor, simply stepping over it as she helped unravel those sheets from around his legs. "At least you managed to fall asleep at the right time of night," She mentioned, clutching for straws as she held up the sheets.
"Are you gonna go right back to sleep?"
There was nothing in the world scarier than the end.
There was nothing scarier than knowing that death stood right behind you when you weren’t yet ready to follow.
There was nothing scarier than knowing you were only running only because you couldn’t do anything else, and knowing that running was just as pointless.
The blankets that had been shoved and wrapped around his legs in the throes of sleep kept Levi from jumping to his feet. He sat up abruptly, reaching for something that wasn’t even there and dropping his arm when he could only find air.
Blood flecked across his face, and- no, it wasn’t blood. It was water, lukewarm from spending hours upon a small table beside his bed. It still took a few moments before his heart calmed and vision focused enough to recognize the familiar space of his room, light entering from the hall and brown-haired woman standing a few feet back. He groaned, reaching for the glass of water and taking a quick swig before letting himself drop back to lying down.
"I’m awake," he answered, slow and measured. He licked his lips before swallowing. "What do you want?" As if he hadn’t just been woken up from a nightmare. As if everything was okay.

”Tch. Why did I even try?” Levi closes the romance book with a loud thud, staring at the cover for a few seconds before letting it on the table. How does one kill time?
There it is. There's the sound of laughter being held back. Hange is nearby. "A romance novel, really?"
(( Nghn sorry, I haven't been quite as inspired with this muse lately. Please contact me if we've got a thread you'd like to finish.

It's an odd sight to see the home closed up, especially when Zoe was given the opportunity to go home early this night. The front gate was closed; certainly a chore she barely remembered to do on her own--and the lights were out save for the porch and balcony lights.
It was surreal, stepping into the house without hearing the television set or some music being played over a tinny pair of computer speakers. She at least remembered to lock the door behind her, going through the process of leaving her shoes and jacket near the door.
Zoe went right for her room, having practiced keeping quiet while her roommate worked through his own sleep issues--and goodness, where there a considerable number of issues which seemed to worsen as time progressed. Night terrors, sleep walking... the cure seemed worse than the disease.
Although she wished the rustling around in Levi's bedroom was something more encouraging, all it took was one glance for her to tell that he was experiencing another nightmare. Zoe sighed, flipping on the lights in the hallway, slowly strolling toward the rickety old bed she'd allow for him to sleep on. Not allowing him to dwell in the terror for long, she dipped her fingertips within the glass of water set next to his bed, and flicked the water upon his face. She stood at a distance, as he took a few swings at her while asleep in the recent past, speaking up to snap him out of this: "Levi, wake up!"
Looking a bit miffed, he leaned his head back into the cushioning so he could see her and goddamn, somehow she looked even weirder upside down. “I was enjoying the quiet.” With a bit of emphasis on the was. “Giving myself a break Four Eyes, today’s been shit. What are you up to?” That was a dangerous thing to ask her, wasn’t it?
It didn't seem like Zoe will ease away just because of one measly bad day. She shook her head in response to this question, a highly suspect smile remain upon those lips--"Nothing at all!" She lifts her fingers, setting the tips upon the very middle of his forehead, pushing down.
Oh, she rouses his temper alright – in a very negative manner, at that.
”Glasses, that is disgusting,” he says acridly, albeit knowing full well she the information she has shared is true, nevertheless it is still disgusting.
Body fluid from the mouth of another – does she even brush her teeth - mixing with his blood is not a pleasant feeling and does no good for his snapped patience.
He withdraws his hand from her hold rather violently, glaring daggers at her. She means well, he knows but he prefers that she minds her own business.
”I can take care of myself."
Zoe stands up straight and takes a step back once the corporal puts up enough of a fuss, her expression remain amiable despite the hostility presented to her. "You were sitting there, allowing it to bleed--" She chimes in this fact, a contradiction to his statement.
(( Still feel like death warmed over, aughurghg ))
(( ugh I'm tired. I'm cranky. The joints in my fingers hurt. So, yeah, that puts a huge crick in enjoying anything, including RP. So I'll probably nod off early and try again tomorrow. ))
