Yowch! Watch This Man Get Hit Right In The Balls
I have to go into work tomorrow to a laptop and cellphone whose batteries will be dead because my coworker is convinced that having left them charging over the weekend would have been too much for the devices and, I don't know, turn them into shrieking white hot balls of electricity of something. I think this man is going to drive me mad.
This is so fucking funny
Parents Wish Weak-Willed Daughter Would Push Back Against Violin Lessons Just A Little
ARDMORE, PA—Expressing frustration at how she continues to remain silent and passively go along with whatever they say, the parents of Olivia Edison, 10, told reporters Wednesday they wish their weak-willed daughter would push back even just a little against the violin lessons they make her take. “Jeez, what’s wrong with her? She hasn’t said one thing about how she doesn’t like the violin or how she hates having to practice her scales every day—what a little pushover,” said Olivia’s mother, Nicole Edison, 41, lamenting the fact that her cowardly daughter has yet to mutter an aggravated comment under her breath or roll her eyes at her parents even once despite a demanding schedule of weekend classes and out-of-town recitals that would elicit considerable resistance from a less gutless child. “We made her rehearse for two hours yesterday, and she just sat there taking it without even a sigh of annoyance. She needs to grow a goddamn backbone and ask to go play with her friends once in a while, for Christ’s sake. It’s pathetic.” Olivia’s mother then shook her head and added that if her daughter wasn’t able to confront her parents now about the violin, she was never going to be brave enough to mount even a tepid protest when they eventually push her into majoring in pre-med.
So, after listing out various of Castro’s abuses as a dictator, I got this empty fucking platitude of a response. Like, what is that even supposed to mean? Not being OK with dictatorship makes me a nationalist now? This person is so afraid of NOT looking like a nationalist that he seems willing to align with or become a fellow traveler to a nasty, oppressive regime. As long as it’s ant-West. That’s where we’re at with this, apparently.
We've officially run out of ideas.

College Encourages Lively Exchange Of Idea
BOSTON—Saying that such a dialogue was essential to the college’s academic mission, Trescott University president Kevin Abrams confirmed Monday that the school encourages a lively exchange of one idea. “As an institution of higher learning, we recognize that it’s inevitable that certain contentious topics will come up from time to time, and when they do, we want to create an atmosphere where both students and faculty feel comfortable voicing a single homogeneous opinion,” said Abrams, adding that no matter the subject, anyone on campus is always welcome to add their support to the accepted consensus. “Whether it’s a discussion of a national political issue or a concern here on campus, an open forum in which one argument is uniformly reinforced is crucial for maintaining the exceptional learning environment we have cultivated here.” Abrams told reporters that counseling resources were available for any student made uncomfortable by the viewpoint.
something I want to say, almost cryptically, in the hopes that the ppl I am addressing will understand what I am saying:
ideological purity is not only a sham but completely ineffective, especially when U are trying to communicate something radical, disruptive, transformative to ppl who have not been exposed to the ideas U are trying to get across
this is the exact problem I had with bell hooks’ criticism of Lemonade, and it’s the problem I have now with whatever group of people (namely white people in academia) calls themselves leftists and imagines themselves to be doing “important” work when using highly abstract, highly context-specific language and means of communication in order to get something across to people who have no familiarity with that language, with that kind of communication, with those contexts… and then blames those people for not listening! not researching! not keeping a dictionary on hand!
there is a reason why people would rather listen to and watch Lemonade than listen to U! and I think it’s worth thinking about why that is!
U must prioritise legibility, accessibility, and even attractiveness – not just for the sake of “inclusiveness”, but the sake of literal effectiveness – I can’t believe this suggestion is something people actually balk at, but it is! and it shouldn’t be!
the more I think about it the more I realise that this move toward cryptic, abstract, highly context-specific and ultimately academic language is a reaction to the way every [excruciatingly slow] development in public consciousness when it comes to feminism [for example] is readily absorbed into capitalism – think about the way the word “intersectionality” has been misunderstood, bastardised, sloganised and taken on as some kind of identity
but that doesn’t mean U do the total opposite! that doesn’t mean U turn social justice and activism and critical theory into a No Fun Zone (or into a Highly Abstract, Highly Specific, Esoteric, and Meta-Ironic Fun Zone) simply because it’s difficult to extricate beauty, romance, aesthetic, softness, positivity and so on from capitalism and capitalist values
people have to be reached first – people have to want to listen first – and making that intervention requires relying upon the available, familiar language and symbolism – requires beauty, requires romance, requires glamour, requires softness, requires idealism – whether U like it or not!
I think what I’m trying to say to this group of people, ultimately, is Be Nice And Lighten The Fuck Up
