I know people complain that Hestia doesn't get that much attention in the community but even if she isn't as popular as other deities, I'm pretty sure we're making the same mistake as the ancient greeks: she's such a fundamental (and perhaps obvious) piece of our worship that we don't talk much about her.

Hestia is really beloved to me but the fact that I don't feel like sharing my experiences with her it's due to the nature of her domestic worship. My worship of her doesn't consist on grand offerings or activities: it's about the simple and daily things. In short, it's about things I wouldn't talk about online.

I'm pretty sure that our beloved goddess is more revered than it seems in the online community.

I got a bunch of people lovingly chastising me for not including Hestia in my original line up, and upon reflection I realized I had left out a very important goddess. Perhaps not important within the heroic dramas and tragedies we are accustomed to, but Hestia was incredibly important for the average Greek citizen. Hestia was the virgin goddess of the home and hearth fire, where the families ate and congregated. She oversaw cooking of meals, and sacrificial food for feasts. In my image she sits aside a giant hearth fire. In her right arm she holds a chaste-tree, (signifying chastity and virginity) while in her left hand she holds the sacred hearth flame. Under her golden wreath sits a veil upon the top of her head. to the left we can see the cooking pot and roasting meat, as well as mortals below offering and sacrificing food and wine in her honor. below her chair is a greek family. Do you ever think about how forgotten Hestia is, even to modern worshippers? She’s not as edgy, or cool, as silver bow wielding, Pythian lord of Plagues Apollo. Or thunderbolt chucking Zeus, who delights in feasts and storms.

Hestia is the thing that most people strive for. A home. A comfortable, safe place to call home. Sacred. Quiet. Peaceful. A place to lay down the worries of the day, thunderbolts, and silver bows, even for the gods who have their own homes and comfortable beds.
