One of the saddest bits of Holy Week is when Jesus is praying in Gethsemane and, knowing He's about to go through the worst experience possible, just wants His friends by His side for a bit, and they fall asleep, and He's like "you couldn't even stay awake with Me for one hour?"

And it hits me particularly hard because I know I would have failed Him there too. I wouldn't have stayed awake for an hour either.

I'm usually a Hermes guy, but I've been feeling the urge to draw Aphrodite for a while, and finally got around to doing it. Based on the first woman I saw where I (a gay man) was basically struck with awe at her striking appearance

very fascinating to me that cybele keeps lions who cannot copulate (according to greek ideas... so presumably the same sex — and since they're usually with manes, male lions) and her lover attis is castrated. and also she's the great mother with Protective properties (of cities and daughters) but with ecstatic worship (sound, sights, sensations; wine and celebration...). and also the animals. syncretism does such wonderful things! (but also the whole point of this... is that she seems to have great power in the realm of alternative sex/gender identities esp. for women. hmm hmm hmm. this has already been commented on but i never really understood it until now)
