The camera hung comfortably around Damian’s neck as he wandered through the festival snapping photos of food vendors, carnival games, and groups of laughing people. At least, that was what it looked like he was doing. The truth was a little more complicated. His attention kept drifting toward Sawyer whenever she appeared in his line of sight. He told himself it wasn’t weird. The whole town knew who she was. People took pictures at public events all the time. Unfortunately, that logic became harder to defend when she suddenly turned and caught him holding the camera in her direction. Damian froze for half a second before immediately recovering with a sheepish grin. “Wow.” He lowered the camera. “You completely ruined my shot.” His tone was playful, as if she had wandered into the frame by accident. “I was trying to get the lights behind you.” Technically not a lie. The lights had been there. Behind her. He rubbed the back of his neck and laughed. “You know, most people charge extra for photobombing. I should probably send you an invoice.” The joke came naturally, smooth enough to cover the awkwardness. At least, he hoped it did.
Swishing strawberry ringlets over her shoulder, Sawyer goggled in disbelief after coming face-to-face with a lens she'd been primarily unaware of. It wasn't unfamiliar to feel as if eyes were following her, after all, she'd spent how many years plastered on the screens of numerous? It simply came with the territory, but at the male's atrocious accusation, a gasp of faux incredulity fluttered past cherry frosted petals. "Please, if anything, I made whatever mediocre shot you got worth some decent change." With measured movements, her frame twists just enough to allow her to peer over at said lights. An almost giddy laugh escapes, mocha hues rolling. "Oh yeah, if that was the shot you were going for, make sure to take down my name and thank me later." Her tone is teasing, finally revealing she's just as amused as he is. Sawyer simply fancies turning everything into a bit of a game.

"When are you gonna get tired of singing at that casino and come work for me down at the hotel?" Marcus smiled as he leaned on the table in front of him. "I'd build you the prettiest stage that you could ever want." He needed to redo the lounge on the ground floor anyway, but he might as well try to sweeten the deal if he could.
"Ugh, don't you dare tempt me." And normally, Sawyer wouldn't entertain such an offer, but Marcus was someone who appeared to mean business, and what a fool she would be to turn down a potential career boost? "What if I don't want pretty?" A copper brow arches, her frame leaning closer as a cup of umber liquid, adorned with several cherries, is lifted to pause just before her lips. "I'm thinking of something a tad more earth-shattering. Perhaps a little gold and crimson? I'm also not opposed to bronze and blue, maybe you can even convince me of silver and violet." That was just the first of a few requests the singer was dreaming up.
ryker nearly jumped when she suddenly appeared over his shoulder, immediately looking around like he'd somehow been ambushed. “jesus christ,” he laughed, one hand pressing dramatically against his chest. “you move around like a woodland creature.” despite the complaint, a grin had already spread across his face. his eyes flicked toward her extended hand before taking it without much hesitation, which couldn't be further from the news. “and here i was thinkin' i was gonna spend the next ten minutes peacefully minding ' my own business.” he shook his head as if deeply inconvenienced by the invitation. “you know i'm in, but what if i discover i'm terrible at water gun related crime?"
"Ohh, now that would be a fascinating question!" Lifting up onto the toes of her shoes for a small bounce, her gaze locks onto Rykers. "If I were a woodland creature, what would I be?" Poking her nose into the air as if allowing him full access to her features. "For you? I'd say a wolf." The answer comes without thought. "Strong, loyal, dashing. You can run with a pack or go at it alone. Yes, a wolf is quite fitting." Gripping his hand, she gently begins to tug him in the direction of the mini-game that had caught her attention. "You? Minding your own business? Not while I'm near." A pearly grin is discharged over her shoulder as she hinders towards a booth with dangling multi-colored stuffed animals, chutes of lights firing upwards as game-goers battle for a prize.
"Well, in the very least, we can both be awful at water crimes together."
" here i thought i was blending in beautifully.” the corner of his mouth tugged upward as he looked back at him. there was something easier about adrian outside of courtrooms and offices, less sharpened around the edges, though traces of that dry wit never really disappeared. “for the record, i do occasionally leave my natural habitat. contrary to popular belief, i don't spend every waking hour arguing with people and surviving on bad coffee.” he chuckled. is that what people thought of him? could be worse. “most hours, sure. but not every hour.” his gaze flicked briefly over elias then, taking in the familiar face in an unfamiliar setting before settling again. what a devilishly handsome man. “although i have to admit, seeing you here is throwing me off a little too. but, i'm not mad at it.” the smile that followed was small but genuine, warmer than he probably intended. "do you drink, elias?”
"Oh yeah, blending in as good as C-Clark Kent." A throaty chuckle followed, cause realistically, who in their right mind would be fooled by a pair of glasses? It was comical. "Not that I don't think you have a life outside of musty courtrooms, we just haven't crossed paths much outside of your office." Which seemed like a shame, not that Elias thought about it. Adrian was an extremely intelligent man, and though he may not quite follow what Elias preaches, he never seems to judge. "Ah, yes, face for p-podcast, what can I say?" It was a little ongoing joke, especially considering he uploaded videos as well. "D-Drink? Uh, if you consider those fruity tiki drinks with the little umbrellas on top, yeah, I drink."
The only family members Jia had ever lost had been their own doing, so they couldn’t tell Bastian they knew how he felt. However, they felt the loss of Dario, too. The younger Rider wasn’t as close to Jia as Bash was, but that didn’t mean they weren’t hurting. Because they were… and it hurt like hell. Just like hearing of Ryker’s abuela had also completely crushed their heart. Yet, the brunette wasn’t going to lose anyone else, so they made sure to stick around when Bastian’s world was closing in and the darkest. They found his hiding spot and wouldn’t bulge until his stubborn self decided to eat something. Eventually, he drank something other than alcohol. Jia wouldn’t give up on him. On anyone who mattered to them, really. They hated the fact that they had all been forced to attend to this public event and was scared to death that the death threat hadn’t been enough to convince Bastian, however, upon seeing the younger man’s crown of unruly hair, the hacker couldn’t help but letting a small smile appear on their cherry-chapstick-stained lips. ❝ You came. ❞ They said, wrapping their arms tightly around their friend. ❝ Thank you for coming, Curls. ❞ They couldn’t lose anyone else. Even if the treats ended up being empty, Jia couldn’t lose anyone else. When they pulled away, their hands slid up to Bash’s face, cupping his cheeks tenderly. ❝ And you showered. ❞ They chuckled, leaning in to plant a kiss on his forehead. ❝ Good. I’d hate to drag you to the sea just so you wouldn’t smell like shit. ❞ Their usual sense of humor wasn’t there yet, but Jia had promised themself they would put up a strong front for Bastian. They needed someone now. ❝ We’ll get through this shitty day together, alright? You want to eat something? ❞
It would take a bit of time, but once Bastian came to his senses, he'd make damn sure to thank Jia for all they'd done for him. He'd never been one manageable to care for. Headstrong, unruly, enraged. He was far better at propelling people away than allowing them close enough to care. But Jia was different. They welcomed each forceful strike as if expecting it and returned it only with humor and compassion. Bash may be a royal asshole, but he knew it was a rare thing to come across someone as remarkable as Jia. And that was something he didn't take for granted, even now, in his current state of despair.
"Figured I'd save ya' the trouble… of hunting me down and washing my ass again." It was a cheap attempt at joking, but the obligatory smile didn't quite reach his eyes. "Also, thought you might have a date and didn't want to be a cockblock." Perhaps it would have landed better if his manner hadn't been so monotone. But he returns the hug with one arm, wrapping tight around their frame, before pulling back to look at them with a furrowed brow.
"Food? Nah, I'll join ya for a drink though, for sure." Jia had to have seen that coming. He'd shown face, cleaned up as best of his current abilities, and now that the hard part was over with, he was there to wait and drown his sorrows.
the moment she heard her name, dulce turned, and for a heartbeat she simply stared. it had been some time since she'd seen him. since the news broke it had been nothing but days of worrying. days of hearing dario's name spoken in hushed voices around town and immediately wondering how bash was surviving any of it. she had given him space because grief was a strange thing, because sometimes loving someone meant waiting quietly at the edge of their pain until they were ready to let you back in. but the second she saw him stumbling toward her through the sand, none of that mattered anymore. “bash,” she breathed, and then she was moving.
dulce closed the distance between them without hesitation, arms wrapping tightly around him the moment she reached him. one hand settled firmly between his shoulder blades as she held him close, like she could somehow anchor him there if she just refused to let go. all that mattered right now was that he was here. “you're here,” she whispered, softer this time, holding him for a long moment while the sounds of the festival and crashing waves faded into the background. there were no words big enough for a loss like the one bash had taken.
eventually she pulled back only enough to look at him, lifting a hand to gently brush a few curls away from his face. her eyes searched his carefully, taking in every shadow and every tired line she found there, her expression softening with each one. “you're here,” she repeated quietly, almost like she still couldn't quite believe it. relief and affection tangled together in her voice as her thumb brushed lightly against his temple. a small smile found its way onto her lips despite everything. “do you want to sit with me?"
Her teeny frame collided with his as though she were a freight train and he nothing more than a fragile glass structure. It's instantaneous, the method in which his body slumps forward to encapsulate her. Concealing his face into the crook of her neck, with ravenous inhales, he breathes her in as if he'd been flashes away from drying of thirst and she was the sweetest, coolest drink of water imaginable. Strong arms belt around her waist, steadying themselves as she grounds him.
Her scent sent goosebumps prickling along his flesh, the comforting aroma taking him back to a place where everything felt safe. "Dulcy." The pet name came out as grumble, a slight frown working the intersections of chapped lips as distance finally parted them. "Uh, yeah… friend kinda made me…" Not to mention, if the Valley Rift Ripper was planning to make an appearance, he needed to be present.
"Sit wit'cha ya? You sure?" Crimson spiderwebs encase his eyes as they peer out to the beach, searching for a group she might have been chilling with. "Don't wanna cramp ya' style or anything… ya know, I probably ain't the best company right now." Had it been anyone else? He wouldn't give two fucks about potentially embarrassing them, but not when that fate fell to Ducle Maria.

Jia brushed their hands over their face, only to immediately curse when they noticed a bit of the eye mascara they’d worn for the festival, had stained their fingers a little. Immediately, the brunette had their phone up and started wiping that shit away. Again, they cursed at themselves for wearing make up to something like this. And why had they in the first place? Because they might run into someone? Stupid. They did end up noticing Elias from over their phone. The podcaster was being told to go away by the people he’d been trying to talk to, and when Jia put their phone away, the hacker rested their hands on their hips, covered by their jacket. ❝ Why am I not surprised? ❞ They scoffed softly, a hint of humor coating their words while they lowered their shades to cover their eyes again. ❝ I told you you’ll end up getting punched, E. ❞
Elias wasn't having the best fortune when it came to capturing folks for interviews. Most either regaled him like a leper-coated pariah, some sort of dangerous freak, or with downright distaste. For others, they might tucktail and slither away to conceal themselves, but such reactions weren't foreign to the podcaster. As far as he was concerned, it was merely another day at the office. When greeted with a voice that might have held a dash of amused disappointment, he approached Jia with one of his signature uneasy smiles. "What? M-My listeners are always my first concern." His feet shift awkwardly underneath his frame. "Ah, yes, but that is a price I'm willing to pay." One he had cashed in a few too many times for comfort. "What else d-do you expect me to do?"

this day couldn't get any worse first, her ex was in town, then vinny glarring daggers at her date. it was too much for her. drink in hand, she found her way to the beach area. she just needed a break. "having fun yet?" she asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked over at her. jules knew her fun had been cut short, for now that was. but she knew at some point, she would start having fun again.
Sawyer lounged against a beach chair, legs extended as if she were far taller than the solid 5'3 she stood at. The sun's caress heated alabaster flesh, the tips of pedicured toes thumping to the melody of the air. "Hmm?" Tilting her head down, chocolate orbs peer up at her friend through the top of her sunglasses, a blinding ivory smile swiftly following. "A bit. Here and there. Why? Are you not enjoying the festivities?"

Soph had been doing a good job of keeping tabs on Bash all night until she lost him. They were close to the bathrooms, and she assumed that's maybe where he would end up. Seeing him stumble out of the push door had her relaxing a little, until she saw his face. Battered and bruised. She stormed over to her baby daddy and reached up, taking him by the ear, just as she did their son when we was being bad and lead them to behind the bathroom. "What the fuck, Bash! Did you fucking learn nothing last time!"
"Ah, fuck- come on, Soph." Slouching forward to accommodate her size as she gripped his ear like a furious abuela, Bash bumbled after her. As if his body was battered to hell, his head an endless pounding of agony, and his chest a coiled cluster of misery, he had to ready himself for whatever shit storm Soph was about to cast his way. "What the fuck are you talking about?" Jerking away, he flinched at the sting of his earlobe before falling back against the building. "I didn't do shit that's gonna affect anyone but me!" He snarled, glassy hues rolling as a hand rose to shield his face from the sun. "Try minding ya own fuckin bussiness, will ya?"
"If it isn't my favored, clueless, not so little, prey." Sawyer floated up beside Francis, shooting him a foxish simper. "So you received my letter?" It was a tasteless gag, one that most would be appalled by, but what sense was there in adding fear to something that was already shrouded in such dread? "Can't say this seems like much of your scene, but who knows, I appreciate a pleasing stupefaction." // @fransiscosantoro
"Lola?" With the bitter bite of rum lacing his words, Bash struggled through the sand towards the beaut, nodding his head in an odd manner to the music that deafened the air. "Long time no see-" Bloodshot eyes look her over in a glaze as he approaches, a pathetic excuse for a smirk crooked on his lips. "How ya' hanging, babes?" // @deadlyalibis
"Well, well, well, don't you strike me as a wayward artist in need of a purposeless, astonishing redheaded muse?" Fingers lift to brush back waves of crimson, her head shaking slightly to add to the theatrical effect. "If so, I think I can find it in this heart of gold, to make a little time to fill your film." A kittenish grin is offered up, accompanied by a slight shrug. "What do you say?" // @brokenxdreams
"S-Stealing homes from the innocent and burning down elderly communities?" Elia's tone was full of jest, an awkwardly charming smile finding his features as he approached one of the many libation counters. "I kid, kind of." With a lazy chuckle, he leans onto the countertop, eyeing a bartender in hopes of getting their attention.
"Get you a drink? M-M-My treat." // @capaddes
"Come along, darling!" Sawyer's manicured hand reached out for Dani's, tugging her into a line of bystanders. "You see that dashing onyx stallion with the azure eyes? I claim him." By the way she described it, you'd presumably picture a handsome gentleman waiting in the distance. Instead, she was refering to one of the many beasts rising up and down as a musical, twinkle light-studded, carousel spun. "Twenty bucks says you won't tell the operator to play a song that doesn't suck." // @cstlavietes
"Do you like the next act?" Evie's gentle voice carried just audible enough to reach the male beside her. With a sparkling smile, she peeked down at him with an almost optimistic twinkle in her honeyed orbs. "I adore them, but there's not much delight in relishing it all on my lonesome." Generally, she wouldn't be opposed, but with the rush of adrenaline and buzz of festival goers, she wouldn't mind a dash of company. "Maybe if you're interested, we can enjoy the set together?" // @cassieswhits
"You!" Elias approached the male with what most would describe as a haunting grin (it was welcoming and friendly, in his mentality), eyes wide with excitement. "Just the one I've been searching for. You're… C-C-Cassidy? Right?" His mind liked to play tricks with names, mostly just to embarrass him. He hoped this wouldn't be the case in this instance. "I've been a-asking around for people who might have a little info to share-" Why else would he be wandering around tracking individuals down if not for a scoop? "-and s-some thought you'd be a good place to start." // @cassieswhits
