Mike Wheeler Buffyverse Vampire AU
After (most) of the events of season 5 Mike leaves for college at none other than the UC Sunnydale.
He starts to hear about all the weird deaths and disappearances around this town that sound all too familiar.
He tries to bring up his concerns but starts to sound kinda mental when talking about actual witches, hyena people and rumors of the year everyone turned into their Halloween costume.
His friends chalk it up to him struggling to move on. They don’t want to believe that there are more places out there with creatures. They. Just. Got. Out.
Hush episode happens, Mike’s roommate was murdered and he meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
All his old friends want to move on. They’ve gone their separate ways for school and it’s painful for him. He wants to bring them back together. They’re all hesitant to believe in vampires. In a call with Nancy he decides to not tell them in order to not drag them back into the danger.
“I get being paranoid after everything, but I think we all need a break…I’m not saying I don’t believe you because I get sounding crazy but you don’t sound well. If you’re sure, I will drive down there myself to investigate your clues but can you tell me this isn’t just you needing to have something to throw yourself into?”
“You’re right, I’m just being crazy. I’ll see you at Christmas. Bye, Nance.”
Everyone just thinks he’s in this weird town
“How was your mid term?” “Hm? Oh cancelled because of the town wide laryngitis and then my roommate was murdered” :(
No one wants to room with Mike in the murder dorm so he has it to himself.
All this paranormal business puts a new fire in Mike. He finds purpose…
He goes headfirst into learning about vampires and other monsters, eager to go on patrols
He feels like he has a new fight again for a few months
Mike tells the scoobs about his past bit more like he’s giving a resume because he wants to be let into the club
“Well, I’ve been doing this since I was 12! So that’s several more years than you’ve been slaying” Buffy who was initially shocked and maybe impressed because hellooo evil dimensions is offended after he says that last part
Willow asks many questions about the wormhole, gates and how the upsidown works. He likes her a lot because she reminds him of Dustin and Will. Her budding relationship with Tara has him missing his childhood.
Xander asks him about El “his super powered gf” Mike actually cannot stand Xander but is weirdly intrigued by Anya but mostly scared.
Giles tries to get substantial info about the monsters because it’s unlike anything they’ve encountered before. He gets along with him well, was less explosive in emotion than Hopper. Giles is skeptical about him though.
Buffy listens to him talk and recognizes the loss he’s had without him saying anything. He talks in detail about his friends but mostly Will. He likes to think that she would’ve gotten along with El. Likes to watch her fight because it’s like a movie.
Things have changed between him and Will again and now they hardly speak. Feels like a loser, and struggles with just going along with things when life is “normal” which is why he’s happy to be in the chaos of monsters. He doesn’t know how to lead when it’s not life or death. How can anyone just go back to normal? He hides behind purpose. He is unable to face the truth of who he is. It’s so bad his skin feels like it’s buzzing whenever he’s left alone with his thoughts.
This makes him dangerous as a scoob. He takes risks. Buffy can sense that he’s a liability. She tries to talk to him about it. They argue and she bans him from patrols. He would rather go down in a fight than admit that he’s queer.
He’s turned less than 3 months of being in college.
