What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂

My wife pointed out to me the other day that apparently most people were literally only taught how to say Sorry and not how to Apologize or even that they are different things so here.

If all you ever do is step 1, not only did you not apologize, but people will rightfully stop believing you and start getting pissed or hurt.

Sailor lore drop. when we were younger our brother went to get diagnoised with autism but he didnt have it and now our dad refuses to believe any of his children could be neurodivergent because of that experience. When being told that an actual therapist suggested that we, sailor, get tested for it he said that "they dont know what they are talking about". To an actual liscened therapist.

WE HAVE NEW FINALE DATES !!

It has been revealed via The Cable Forum that Disney Channel USA will be airing both parts of the finale in August, with Secret Protocol (6x25) premiering August 1st and Nemesis (6x26) premiering August 8th !!

These dates have been added to the airdates post, and while yes this is pretty far away lol, lets cross our fingers that another channel comes in before then, esp since Disney is usually the last to premiere episodes. If not though at least we have a latest possible timeline to go off of ;_).

Stay tuned for more news, and last thing I'll mention while I'm here is a reminder that starting next Saturday, Disney will be airing the english dubs for The Dirtifiers, The Chained Titans, and Queen of the Dreadzone. You can see the exact details on that in the aforementioned airdates post :)

I don't like it when people say "if you say you can't cook what you really can't do is read instructions" because that really does not apply to something like cooking where most recipes are filled with instructions like "add a pinch" "boil until done" "cook at medium heat", which are things that require experience to understand correctly

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.

btw this is maybe the single most key distinguishing feature of the terfy strains of radical feminism, the seed all the rest of it springs out of: they have absolutely no faith in the ability of feminism to actually destroy patriarchy. they do not think feminism can truly build a better world. they cannot really even imagine that possibility. they think patriarchy is an inevitable natural consequence of unchangeable biological facts, and therefore the goal of feminism can only be to mitigate the worst effects of patriarchy, not to get rid of it.

they can imagine a society where women get some designated safe spaces without men around. they cannot imagine a society where the presence of men is not inherently a danger to women.
