I won’t bother arguing who should have won the ESPY for bravery. I can definitely understand why Caitlyn Jenner won, and she definitely had courage to do what she did. I do however think that Tumblr gives people who think that someone else should have won too hard of a hard time. “It’s not a competition.” In many instances, they’re right. Measuring bravery shouldn’t be a competition. When you’re talking about an espy or an award in general though, it’s not a competition but it kinda is at the same time. What? You expect other people to not have a different opinion on who should have won any other kind of award. People will disagree on best athlete, best game, or champion. That just naturally happens, because most people did in fact have to compete in their respective areas to be a nominee. Now it’s true that Caitlyn is an entirely different story, but I still think the same amount of leeway should be given to those who might have a disagreement. Now, they don’t have to be douchebags about it like some people have definitely been, but people should be allowed to have a different victor in mind at least. At the end of the day, all of the potential nominees are winners. I just think people on Tumblr are overreacting just a bit to something that’s entirely natural with things like this.
