Two things:
I'm completely normal about what he just did
Everyone's reaction tickles me
I think one (among many) bonkers things about the replicators in Trek is that we're never shown anyone programming the patterns to be replicated. I want to know what's the future version of solidworks and what the hell a molecular slicer (ie the program that tells the replicator what to generate where, given a design) would even look like. And I assume everyone that works on a starship on an engineering/scientific capacity can use both in their sleep. On second thought though slicing an object at the atomic level is such an impossible amount of data to even compute, it's no wonder we mostly see characters make use of pre-programmed patterns even outside of food replicators
I suppose it's my fault for not specifying but "slicing" is 3d printing jargon that means the process by which the design of a solid object gets transformed into instructions for the printer. It's like a print preview but way more complicated.

This might be my favorite

“I asked ChatGPT-” Yeah well I asked Lieutenant Commander Data Soong from engineering and he told me that while he could, in fact, do my physics homework, he fears that it may have a negative impact on my academic performance and that he would not proceed with this arrangement.
Spot. The difference.
WIP in the very ugly stage! But you see the vision, right?
THEY PROPOSED TO EACHOTHER AT THE EXACT SAME.TIME I THINK IM GONNA BE SICK
OMG Jim and Spock are DEFINITELY the kind of couple to accidentally propose to each other at the same time
I saw this and immediately had to draw it 😂

Happy Pride!!! Always remember there are gay people in space
Okay but. Project Hail Mary but it's James Kirk and Spock.
Kirk who gets sent to space to die on the off chance he might save the world. Spock who left his planet with a ship full of Vulcans and is alone now.
Them talking through the wall in the tunnel. Jim whispering about Spock to the video diary and hearing "who are you talking to" from way too far away.
Spock being calm and collected right up until Jim reveals he can't go home, at which point he loses it and starts throwing shit. Jim having a borderline breakdown upon discovering that Spock has been alone for multiple decades.
Just. Omgosh. Star Trek-Project Hail Mary au.
I'm still thinking about this btw. And I believe Bones would be there too. Not sure how but he'd find a way. You can't just split up the triumvirate.
Actually I think he'd maybe function like "Mary" does, just as a person instead of a robot - which has a lot of amusing and angsty possibilities. Because imagine him trying in vain to get Jim to stay still post-coma but also imagine that he waited all those years for Jim to wake up...alone, which matters because he's human and not a robot.
And he's a doctor, dammit, not a hero.
@buttspocks as far as that goes, my thinking is that this hypothetical alternate universe would lean way further into vulcans being less "human" than star trek usually does. So he'd still be humanoid, but feel extremely removed from Jim (and Bones) enough that the gap between them would feel similar to that in phm. :)
you’re so right actually !! i’m remembering that in star trek tos when the humans encounter another species there’s a sense of “omg they’re so inconceivably different from us” even though the other guy looks like 95% human. especially with how people are on spock’s ass about being vulcan and see that as a legitimate barrier to understanding/interacting with him. these attitudes might just be a product of when the show was produced, but your phm au would fit the tos canon pretty well lol
