“well messy is right,” clint says with an innocent smile, he rolls his eyes at them before huffing out a laugh. “yeah our past stunts really convince me otherwise,” he was just playing for the most part, they were all capable people that were here for a reason clearly, he just liked coming by, he’d never admit as to why. in the search on trying to find some more meaning in his life he found himself here, despite all his attempts to stay away and let people take control but now he felt responsible for someone else not because he felt like he needed to but because he wanted to. “just figured you’d want some time with lucky,” he offers before adding, “pretty sure he’s tired of just watching me flip through the same three channels.”

❝ oh, there’s nothing wrong with them or the school. a lot of them are basically family. ❞ and it was true, especially the new mutants. ❝ but you know that cliche of a kid wanting to move out their parents’ house when they turn 18 ? that’s kind of how i feel. ❞ bobby is grateful for the x-men and what they’ve done for him but he definitely needs a change. ❝ i have powers ! the technical version is ‘ solar energy absorption ‘ but in layman’s terms it means i absorb the sun’s radiation and channel that in different ways - personal favorite being super strength and flight. ❞

he supposed he could understand where they were coming from to some degree, though he hadn’t really had much of a family until very recently. he knows that the avengers should be family but his relationship with the avengers was complicated to say the least. he loved them, and had put his life on the line for them, but it was complicated. “have they tried bringing you back?” he says with a small smile, “do they miss you?” is what he was going for, he said it anyway. he listens to his powers and thinks that it tracks for the personality the kid has. “flying? that’s pretty cool.”

He’s not seen many of his former teamates since his return to earth- the understanding that so many were still carrying the hurt. But of all the people to stumble upon him in the middle of the park, Thor is more than pleased to be startled by Clint Barton- as his open grin shows.

“My friend!” he says, warmly, reaching out and laying a hand on Clint’s shoulder- not so bold as to force as hug upon him- though the temptation is real. “’Tis good to see you, and your companion”. Lucky gets a hand to sniff, as a matter of formalities. As all good boys should. “…If I wanted to truly hide, I have my ways. But… I find myself tired of hiding. So I am glad to have found you. How are you?”

it had been a shit show, and half of the time he was wondering if the avengers were still even the avengers. but it was nice being able to see an old friend, and clint had hoped that they were doing much better than he currently was even if he was managing alright than some people that he knew. “people are coming back from the dead, you know.” clint says, biting on the inside of their cheek. “it’s been fucking wild man.” he shakes his head, leaning down to pet lucky behind the ears for being such a good dog. 

“i’m doing alright,” he eventually says, with a shrug. “how are you?”

“  ah  ,  yep  —  always gotta keep an eye on those kids  ,  ”  rhodey says affectionately  ,  nodding in agreement  .  the young avengers  ,  all the various spider-kids  …  he’s proud of them  ,  how strong they are and how much they’ve achieved  ,  but he can’t help but feel a little worried  ,  watching them all fling themselves into danger  .  the risks of being a parent  ,  he supposes  .  even though he isn’t one  .  “  damn right we do  .  maybe now the kids are grown up enough to handle disasters on their own  ,  we can get the leave we’d be owed in any other job by now  .  ”

while clint had felt for the kids, he would admit he didn’t keep as close of attention in the same way that he did for kate. not that they needed their help in any way. they knew how good kate was and... careful, for the most part, that they were. but it didn’t stop him from wanting to check in anyway. it had been an overwhelming feeling that he didn’t know what to do with. he figured it was best not to look too into it. “it’s... weird to think about, i guess,” he eventually says, “i know most of them chose this life but,” he shrugs his shoulders, “i can’t remember what it was like being their age, i never really got to be it, i guess.” he sighs a little, before chuckling. “i don’t know if i even know how to take a vacation, rhodey. that’s bad.”

            clint  barton  ,   perhaps  the  bane  of  her  existence  and  the  reason  why  she's  been  yelled  at  multiple  times  by  her  sister  .   so  now  yelena  has  a  grudge  against  the  older  man  ,   perhaps  a  bit  jealous  of  how  close  he  is  to  the  people  they  care  for  ,   which  somehow  annoys  them  even  more  .    “  i  already  said  why  they  named  it  the  chicago  typewriter  ,  ”   yelena  scowls  ,   balancing  the  gun  at  him  and  winking  ,   knowing  there's  no  bullet  in  it  .   she  pulls  the  trigger  ,   lets  out  a  small  pow  from  her  lips  and  shrugs  .    “  i  don't  think  i'll  ever  be  able  to  use  it  ,   but  it's  pretty  .  ”

he was trying his best with yelena, but she made it extremely difficult and he didn’t blame her for it. there was a part of her that he was jealous of, but he didn’t know how to speak on it, or even really conceptualize it for himself. but he had known her grief, it was the same grief that he had held over his own sibling, the same grief that they had shared in losing nat in a traumatic way. clint had to watch her die, but yelena didn’t know all those details. he couldn’t explain them to her to make her understand what he carried with him. so he listened to her, tried his best to understand her way of hurting, he knew that it would take a lot to earn her trust- if that was even possible but he’d die trying. he watches as she points the gun at him, and he raises an eyebrow, letting it happen before shrugging his shoulders. “not a fan of guns,” it didn’t take a genius to know that, “i guess we all have our things,” he feels the same way about his bow, it was like a part of him, like another limb. “did you want to get lunch?”

“  terrible  .  i can’t lord those twelve minutes over my sister anymore  ,  ”  pietro says  ,  although his attempt at a mournful tone is spoiled by the smile that breaks out upon seeing a familiar face  .  “  glad to see you’ve survived the last ten years without my help  ,  old man  .  ”  he chooses not to dwell on the back from the dead part of clint’s reply  —  he’d guessed as much anyway  .

he thinks of his own brother, and all of the grief that came with that before he shoves it out of his mind. he’s been doing good at it for years now, what’s a couple of more? “it’s the thought that counts,” he says with an empathetic smile. it must be quite the shock of coming back alive after being dead for so many years, and he was still figuring out how to handle it himself, looking at the other seemed unreal to him. “a lot has happened,” he says with a shrug. glad you weren’t here to see it, “you uh, doing alright?”

          SINCE  HIS  ARRIVAL  TO  THIS  UNIVERSE  ,  oliver’s  felt  unsettled  .  he  was  able  to  quickly  get  back  on  his  feet  and  find  an  apartment  ,  but  something  just  felt  off  .  and  in  true  ollie  fashion  ,  he’ll  ignore  the  nagging  feeling  for  the  time  being  and  try  to  gather  as  much  information  as  he  can  .  “  well  it’s  great  to  meet  you  clint  ,  i’m  oliver  ,  ”  offers  a  friendly  smile  before  sipping  his  drink  .  “  gotta  say  ,  big  fan  of  your  trick  arrows  .  ”

it’s hard to imagine being plucked from your world and thrown into another, he had been meeting all kinds of people from different cities that he’s never heard of. he was just left with more questions than answers on most things though, it was all so damn confusing he knew that it was best to try and not understand it for his own sanity. he looks over at the other when he mentions trick arrows. “yeah? you got any of your own?” he’s interested now, gets a little closer, to hear him better and also because this might be one of the more exciting conversations that he’ll probably have in a while.

“  hey  ,  join the club  ,  ”  rhodey says  ,  “  blink twice if they’re keeping you hostage  .  ”  he’s only half-kidding  —  wouldn’t put it past shield to outright kidnap clint to avoid losing his talents forever  (  american military organisations and their  ‘  we own everything  ’  mentality  …  exhausting  )  .  “  but seriously  ,  i’m not going to judge you for that  .  ”

“i’m blinking so fast right now,” he jokes, shaking his head. if he was being honest, he didn’t know why he was here either. maybe retirement wasn’t as great as he had cracked it up to be in his head (but he knows that this is a lie, there was nothing else that he would rather do but stay at home without having to talk to anybody else) “truthfully i—i just stop by to see how kate is doing.” it was a weird thing for him, a feeling that he didn’t know what to really do with—but he knows now that he would do anything for them, but it’s something that he wouldn’t even know how to admit. “we need a vacation rhodey.”

The nice thing about a city as large as New York is that people rarely pay attention to others around them. Meaning he can take the time like this, to sit amongst the hustle and bustle, and just… watch.

They’re so resilient, these Midgardians. Time, and time again, have their lives been thrown to chaos… and they survive regardless. They thrive. He is proud to have favored them from the start.

And of course, there are those he called friends… ones he hesitates to see, even now. Grip tight on the ‘umbrella’ in his hand, more than anything, he misses them.

…What would he even say? If he were faced with them? Thor doesn’t know. So much has happened… and yet he feels both changed and exactly the same.

Too caught in his own thoughts, he is unaware, when someone takes the time to look, and recognize him through his simple disguise.

the great thing about being the lesser known avenger is not being recognized at all. it was rare, even before all the shit happening with the blip. he’s got a coffee cup in hand and lucky’s leash in the other as he walks through central park, one of lucky’s favourite places to be when he stumbles upon an avenger himself. it didn’t take much to recognize him, maybe because clint had been working besides him for so long now he could recognize him from anywhere. he stands right next to him, looking at the bout of people. “you know, if you wanted to blend in you shoud’ve done the whole hat and sunglasses thing,” clint whispers, he’s got a smirk on his face as he looks at the other. 

“you’re disguise is shit man.” he turns to finally look at the man, and lucky is wagging his tail sniffing thor before sitting down very politely. “long time no see.”

it had been a mutual collision, clint was trying to get out of there as to not miss his train, but, it seemed that he would anyway. he looks down at his shirt, thankful that it’s a dark plaid and not a lighter colour, he looks over at the woman and grimaces. “i’m sorry, fuck,” he grabs his backpack and digs into it before finding one of the tide to go pens that kate had pushed into his hand after a marinara accident that shall not be named. “here, i hear these help?” he had walked over towards the cashier to order another one of the same drink she had. “promise not to spill it on you this time.”
