How does drawing a nose on a bee convey embarassment/regret/hatred??
The world may never know.
I sent this into a group chat once and a guy flipped out at how my sense of humor is horrible and kicked me out of the chat
support chronically ill people right now.
the things that chronically ill people need regularly are being scalped. getting from place to place is dangerous. the necessary precautions many will need to take to stay safe are extremely expensive. deliveries, staying home from work, preparing for essential trips.
meanwhile, common chronic illness symptoms are leading to harassment in public.
if you have extra money, time, supplies, a car, or even uplifting things, reach out to chronically ill people. help whoever you are able to help. offer to pick up medication. offer to pick up things from the store. offer to play games together. offer to help find ways to get supplies. offer to help research things. offer emotional support. offer to help clean. ask what people need and offer whatever you are willing and able to offer.
the one pleasurable thing about all of this is i can just be outright rude to people and face 0 repercussions for it. i had this exact conversation about 20 times today:
“where is your [high demand product]?”
“we’re out of stock.”
“seriously?”
“we’ve been out of stock for days.”
“when will you get more in?”
“the distributors are out of stock so it depends on them. we’re ordering as much as we can.”
[incredulous staring as if they expect me to do something about this]
“… i don’t know what to tell you, everyone had the same idea as you but, like, three days ago.”
customer asked if we had hand sanitizer and i said “what do you think?” and there were no consequences whatsoever

Naruto: what did you say?!

Never underestimate the healing powers of good music, good company, and a good cup of tea.
Grocery store has reached the point where some of my staples are in danger, I knew about stockpiling rice and pasta but I did not think so much about stockpiling bread.
Bread generally goes stale in under a week or is a space-inefficient use of rare storage space.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve absolutely got a loaf in my freezer, it’s just a stupid use of space and I admit it.
If we go full lockdown it is going to be about time I learned to actually bake bread. I keep saying “oh I ought to learn how to do that” and then not doing it, but this is pretty well a divine mandate.
Here’s a really decent, really simple recipe for soda bread, which is a quickbread that doesn’t require yeast or rising time.
Here’s a very good but much more complicated sandwich bread recipe. Still pretty simple as these things go.
Here’s a very tasty challa recipe.
Here’s a very dense, protein-rich, gluten-free, bread-for-one microwave bread recipe that I used to use CONSTANTLY before I found bread that I could eat in stores. This is actually super good gluten free bread but it is. It is so much. It’s incredibly filling. I highly recommend slicing your bread product in half and toasting it lightly before using it as bread.
also if you want a really really simple bread recipe, i use an adapted version of this one:
https://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/kitchen-hack-one-minute-ciabatta-bread.html
no kneading, and if you make the batter right before bed it proves overnight and does most of the work for you while you’re sleeping
changes i make are: using half white and half whole wheat flour, using a very scant 2 cups warm water rather than the straight 2 the recipe asks for (if you can land it right between the 1³/⁴ and 2-cup line, you’re golden), and adding a fuckton of random herbs and/or seeds on top right before baking
Reminder: The soda bread recipe and the bread-for-one recipe do not require yeast to cook!
However if you do need yeast and it’s not available in stores or you can’t get to the store here’s how you make yeast at home: https://www.wikihow.com/Grow-Yeast
The WikiHow says that you can keep your sourdough starter in the fridge, which is definitely what I’d recommend right now while we’re all facing the possibility of limited supply.
I hadn’t heard the ‘feed it every week’ thing, and it’s certainly not what I do with my starter. However, I follow the recommendations from a sourdough class teacher, who said that before you bake with a sourdough culture kept in the fridge, you should feed it three times, each about twelve hours apart, to get it up and enthused about life again.
It’s what I did the last time I baked with my starter, and it certainly seemed to work.
Also, if you do decide to keep a sourdough starter, you don’t need to throw away the excess when it starts building up. There’s plenty of easy recipes available, like this one for sourdough crumpets. Sourdough crumpets are much easier than the traditional type, and delicious :D
