What to do if You Don’t Like an Author’s Fanfic or Take on a Trope:
Stop reading.
Find another fanfic that is more suitable to your tastes.
Read that one instead.
Bonus tip If you’re considering sending the author unsolicited messages about how much you disliked their fic, consider one of the following options instead:
Don’t.
Get a life.

Flowers can be used to foreshadow events or themes in a story. For example, a writer might use a white rose to foreshadow a character's death, or a red rose to foreshadow a romantic encounter.
Flowers can be used to represent characters' emotions or motivations. For example, a character who is feeling sad might be described as holding a wilted flower, or a character who is feeling passionate might be described as surrounded by roses.
Flowers can be used to create symbolism that is specific to a particular culture or region. For example, in some cultures, the lotus flower is a symbol of purity and enlightenment, while in other cultures, it is a symbol of death and rebirth.
Hi Mr Gaiman
Bit of an emergency. Don't know if you've heard but one of our beloved fanfiction sites has gone down. And tbh a lot of us are in crisis mode 🙃
So to cheer us up, could you tell us a story?
Here are five short stories for you to help tide you over.
fun fact about me is that when i was a kid id write capital E’s with as many of those little horizontal lines as possible and id call them ladder E’s and adults fucking hated them
artistic rendition
All capital letters should have a leveled-up form
So far I’ve got
ladder letters: A, E, F, H, T
humpback B’s and P’s get as many bumps as you think they need
circle O’s, you just keep spiraling in til you feel like you’ve made your point
tree letters branch into smaller versions of themselves ad nauseum: X, Y
spider Q’s, so many legs
Please add your own unsettling godtier capitals!
New alphabet dropped!
oh my god, it’s beautiful
(future handwritten notes are gonna be so wonderfully cursed now, thank you! :D )
well it’s going to take some getting used to, @ceekari (don’t mind the redacted letter between T and U)
But I think i’ve taken a real shine to it!
recursive
So i may have done a thing in an insomnia fueled jaunt into insanity.

This is how new alphabets get invented.

Broke af?
But still interested in feeding yourself? What if I told you that there’s a woman with a blog who had to feed both herself and her young son…on 10 British pounds ($15/14 Euro) per week?
Let me tell you a thing.
This woman saved my life last year. Actually saved my life. I had a piggy bank full of change and that’s it. Many people in my fandom might remember that dark time as when I had to hock my writing skills in exchange for donations. I cried a lot then.
This is real talk, people: I marked down exactly what I needed to buy, totaled it, counted out that exact change, and then went to three different stores to buy what I needed so I didn’t have to dump a load of change on just one person. I was already embarrassed, but to feel people staring? Utter shame suffused me. The reasons behind that are another post all together.
AgirlcalledJack.com is run by a British woman who was on benefits for years. Things got desperate. She had to find a way to feed herself and her son using just the basics that could be found at the supermarket. But the recipes she came up with are amazing.
You have to consider the differing costs of things between countries, but if you just have three ingredients in your cupboard, this woman will tell you what to do with it. Check what you already have. Chances are you have the basics of a filling meal already.
Here’s her list of kitchen basics.
Bake your own bread. It’s easier than you think. Here’s a list of many recipes, each using some variation of just plain flour, yeast, some oil, maybe water or lemon juice. And kneading bread is therapeutic.
Make your own pasta–gluten free.
She gets it. She really does. This is the article that started it all. It’s called “Hunger Hurts”.
She has vegan recipes.
A carrot, a can of kidney beans, and some cumin will get you a really filling soup…or throw in some flour for binding and you’ve got yourself a burger.
Don’t have an oven or the stove isn’t available? She covers that in her Microwave Cooking section.
She has a book, but many recipes can be found on her blog for free. She prices her recipes down to the cent, and every year she participates in a project called “Living Below the Line” where she has to live on 1 BP per day of food for five days.
Things improved for me a little, but her website is my go to. I learned how to bake bread (using my crockpot, but that was my own twist), and I have a little cart full of things that saved me back then, just in case I need them again. She gives you the tools to feed yourself, for very little money, and that’s a fabulous feeling.
Tip: Whenever you have a little extra money, buy a 10 dollar/pound/euro giftcard from your discount grocer. Stash it. That’s your super emergency money. Make sure they don’t charge by the month for lack of use, though.
I don’t care if it sounds like an advertisement–you won’t be buying anything from the site. What I DO care about is your mental, emotional, and physical health–and dammit, food’s right in the center of that.
If you don’t need this now, pass it on to someone who does. Pass it on anyway, because do you REALLY know which of the people in your life is in need? Which follower might be staring at their own piggy bank? Trust me: someone out there needs to see this.

Mikage Reo x Castles Crumbling (ft. Hayley Williams) from Taylor Swift's Speak Now TV
[2nd verse]
Once I was the great hope for a dynasty,
Crowds would hang on my words and they trusted me—
Their faith was strong, but I pushed it too far—
I held that grudge, 'til it tore me apart—
Power went to my head, and I couldn't stop
Ones I loved tried to help, so I ran them off—
And here I sit alone, behind walls of regret—
—falling down like promises that I never kept.
(and I feel like my castle's crumbling down)
heyyyyy sooooo i just watched nimona and of course being me i have to get aro about it and i am Still Thinking about the moment where ballister says “she’s my friend” and ambrosius replies “aren’t i more than that” and the thing that’s great about it is that he’s in the wrong. yes the two do get back together romantically at the end but this line, its reception in context, and the subsequent emotional core of the movie reject a hierarchy with romance at the top. like. this is a line in a scene where ambrosius is explicitly antagonising our main character, being manipulated by the main villain, and himself using the relationship between himself and ballister in an emotionally manipulative way, whether deliberate or not. in this context, the romance is not the highest or purest form of love, it is not above criticism, and it is certainly not ranked above the friendship. the relationship at the centre of the film is that of ballister and nimona, the one that bal prioritises — both in this moment and throughout the film — is nimona. they are Friends and Family (and of course evil coworkers) and that is the most important thing in the whole entire world. i love to see it <3
the original 2015 graphic novel is more insane than the movie cuz like
exhibit A: nimona expresses liking pizza and ballister at first refuses her asking to order in because the delivery to his mindfuck nowhere lair is expensive . later, when an accident happens and nimona gets upset, he remembers that she liked pizza and offers to order in . if that isnt dad behavior idk what that is (im fatherless)
exhibit B :
they went to a science expo slash carnival . they went undercover . a stand seller mistakes them for a father & son and they just... went with it . he carries nimona around . what the fuck man
exhibit C :
ballister freaks the FUCK out when she gets injured way more than he did in the movie and then proceeds to play board games with her to cheer her up
oops hit tumblr picture limit i will continue my dad ballister propaganda in the reblogs
exhibit D :
nimona gets upset & ballister tries to reassure her . he tries to give her a hug but my poor meow meow babygirl nimona (full of trauma) just . pushes him away . im chewing on drywall .
exhibit E :
the craziest of them all . near the end at the final battle when nimona turns into the big ass dark dragon-axolotl monster, in the graphic novel she actually splits into two, the part of her thats gone off the edge (the monster) and the part of her thats the scared little girl she once was . the backstory in the novel is also a lot different than in the movie :
and .
gawd
this concludes my thesis for my dad ballister propaganda . i will walk outside and set myself on fire now .
i think since pride month in june always trends on here we should try to get disability pride month trending this month i think thatd be cool
I have no idea what the story of this anime is, and it’s pretty obvious who the protag is, but I’m gonna add character to the girls to the left with no face
introducing these two background characters in this slice of life romantic comedy/drama - they love each other a lot, and the girl to the left is grumpy because her girlfriend to the right forgot to give her her good morning kiss.
taller girl on the right is oblivious because she was so excited when they got up because she’s treating her girlfriend to a surprise date at the amusement park that she forgot to give her a good morning kiss. they’ll have their first smooch of the day at the very top of the ferris wheel 💋
the guy to the right of the protag (with the glasses) is a simple office worker who loves his family very very much and cannot wait to get back home to his children
The guy on the far left is wanting to get home to make dinner. He lives alone, but he promised his kitten they would have some grilled fish as a treat! He loves her very much.
The tall one behind the two girls just got back from a job interview. He didn’t get the job but he’s confidant he’ll get the next one. He needs to provide for his son and two daughters after all.
Person to the left of the pink hair girl is a retired hit-man struggling to adjust to a normal life but hes recently found a woman that works at a cafe down the street from his new job and things seem to be going well.
the man on the far far right is anxious as it’s his and his boyfriend first date aniversary and that’s the longest he lasted in a relationship, he is confident that this one will last tho
This is so pure.
Everyone is the protagonist of their own story.
Everyone is the protagonist of their own story.
Can we have an anime series like this? where every episode starts on the same group of people in the train car and we follow a different protagonist from that group each episode?
like, here’s the premise: each episode opens on an image like the one OP posted, with one person drawn as a typical anime protagonist while everyone else around them is in that faceless minimalist background style. However, when the train stops, the camera follows one of the background characters out of the train. Over the course of the episode, we are shown a day in that character’s life, the people with whom they interact, the ups and downs they go through, etc, and as we learn more about them, their features gradually become more defined, until the episode ends with them fully drawn and all necessary details present.
Each episode focuses on a different background character, and the protagonist is never given the spotlight until the final episode, when it is revealed that they are just a cardboard cutout that one of the train’s occupants has been tasked with delivering
and there are subtle hints throughout the series that foreshadow this reveal; a figurine on a shelf in the foreground, a video on a screen in the background, a magazine cover, etc., but we don’t notice because our focus is on that episode’s character.
so it symbolically demonstrates how everyone is intimately familiar with this fictional character, hence their being drawn fully detailed from the beginning, but you have to take the time to get to know the actual people that you encounter on a daily basis, and that everyone truly is the protagonist of their own story.

Yet Another Tumblr Guide for New Users
Change your avatar, header, and put something on your description right now. Do not interact with any post before you do this. Otherwise, you’ll just be mistaken for a bot and blocked.
Post/Reblog stuff before following people. Even with your blog all customized, some people will still block you if they see your blog is empty.
Reblog, reblog, and reblog! Reblogs are not like quote retweets. Reblogging stuff is how Tumblr works, and reblogs actually help OP gain traction.
“Likes are useless” —You’ve probably seen a lot of guides preaching this, but actually that’s only some people’s opinions. People prefer reblogs over likes because it helps OP get more views/interaction on their posts, while likes are just—well, “likes.” It tells OP that you liked their post. Nothing bad with that. Some people also use likes to bookmark posts they want to find later. But if you want to support an artist, consider reblogging their work as well if you are able. If you don’t have enough spoons to use for reblogging, then that’s okay too.
Tags are for categorization, not clout. If you post about one thing but then tag it with irrelevant tags (especially those that happened to be trending), then people can report your post as spam. Here's a Guide to Tagging (edit coz I forgot to link this when I first published this post)
If you see something you don’t like, then just block the user. No need to rally people to cancel said user. Just block and move on.
Use Tag and Post Filters. It’s your responsibility to curate what you see on this site, so add as much filters as you want.
Spell out words. Do not say oomfs or moots. Say “just kidding” instead of “/jk”. Don’t censor triggering words like r@pe. For someone’s filters to work, the content being filtered has to be spelled right. By censoring your words, you’re putting people more at risk to seeing them. More about this on my Tumblr Posting Guide and Best Practices.
Turn off Best Stuff First. We hate algorithms here. Everyone views their dashboard in reverse chronological order.
Tumblr has post limits, but you rarely have to worry about them. I’m too lazy to grab links from the official docs for reference, so take this post limit screenshot (courtesy of XKit) instead. [Ignore the values under Remaining]
Edit: Okay, this is very important for Twitter refugees so I just had to include it:
When your post is reblogged by someone else, then you can no longer completely delete your post.
Unlike quote retweets, reblogs are forever. You may delete the original post, but you won’t be able to delete the reblogs of that post. They will continue to exist on other people’s blogs.
The best you can do to limit views on a post you want gone is to disable reblogs on said post before deleting it. That way, even if the reblogged version still exists, there’ll be no way to spread them further. Just make sure that you won’t regret it later.
Here’s an example of me doing exactly this on a post of mine that got over 10k notes.
