Reflective report: 二年目 (second year)
we had started off the year looking at the gallery, with this year hosting two opportunities to go along and host a gallery i found this year to be one of my favorite years in terms of experiences and the quality of work that I had produced over the year giving the problems that had plagued the first half of the year.
starting off with the fashion and advertising project that was ran by Adam brown and Ian Atkinson. having the chance to create the imagery i had was an outcome that came around after a breakup and not wanting to create the imagery i had planned i had to come up with a new idea that was in fact one of the best series of images that i had produced. having problems with travel i was forced to miss most guest lectures and gallery visits that was planned by the uni which had played a big role on why i decided to stick with a spaced themed project of the gallery project.
for the gallery project, i could say that it was of the best projects that i have ever produced and would love to continue with that project in the future. problems faced within this project had caused on of my hard drives to malfunction corrupted a huge collection of images vital to the timelaspe project. having to re’shoot hours of timelpase again cutting it close to the deadline, i had pulled all nighters to get it done. with the results that had each cold, sleepless night was worth it. having created a timeplase of over 5000+ images of space was a childhood dream come true.
moving into the second half of the year was hoping the southern rail dint mess up as bad as it did the first half of the the year. instead i was i’ll missing the first two weeks of lectures.
we opened the year with the photo book module and the pathway option, for that i chose the game route.
with the photo book module, i didn't want to waste time taking new photos when I already had a huge collection of image in my backlog from years back that i wanted to use. deciding really early on on what images i would use. that meant i could devote the time onto designing and prints and making sure i had made the highest quality book i could. starting off with the a standard image per page style look, the book quickly formed into the double booked style it is now. heavily inspired by the work of Fujii Yoshikatsu and his book, RED STRING. i was set and went full steam a head on making multiple copies of the book to form the final design of the book that it is know. calling it Nihon Futatsu no shuto (written in Japanese) it stood for japan, the two capitals as the book followed my journey through both the current and the former capitals of japan. with the book we have had to form a pop-up book shop in order to sell the books to the public, my role in the shop is the video promotions over on the Enigma_31 youtube channel.
with the Game design project, we had been split up with other students in the university ranging from sound, game and film. and we had form groups and make assets for a Alice in wonderland game. having been teamed up with 11 different students of varing skill sets we had quickly gelled together and formed a great friendship over the cause, having settled into the roles we had chosen, we had met up every week to show what we had been working on and to decided onto where we were going to take the work for the following week. i was on lead character design and head animator. i had created all the characters needed and made a start onto the animated sprites. having made an advancements in that, i had decided to print a shirt of the poster i had designed as a branded product of the game and then went onto animating a teaser trailer for the team.
with dealines still coming up, most of the work is near finished.
overall i am really happy with the quality of work i have created this year, though for next year i will have to focus all my time onto research and reading on what was lacking hits year.
