Shintaro nodded as he watched his new roommate, feeling a bit better since he had let someone new in on what happened around the city. After all, he would’ve hated to be in the dark, especially when a lot of people were cautious and talked about it. “That’s no problem, as long as my rabbit’s don’t get a hold of them. Tono would have a heart attack.” He said, a small snort leaving his lips, which barely ever laughed. “You’re welcome, I wouldn’t want to be kept in the dark either.” A shrug. “My sister is most likely moving here, too, so if you see a blonde girl hanging around, please refrain from attacking.” He figured a warning for that would be nice, too.

"Ah. Don't worry, I won't be attacking anyone, lest they come at me first. And rabbits...no, they're safe, too." Sugata nodded, hands finding their way into his pockets as he listened. "Takuto would have his own heart attack if he found out I'd laid a finger against an animal." Though it wasn't his only reason. Sugata may appear too mature for cooring over bunnies on the outside, but really, who was ever too old for a living puff of fur?  "I'm Sugata, by the way. Sugata Shindo. It's nice to meet you."

"About two weeks and no. It was on purpose, they shot Morty, Yata, Saruhiko, Atsuro, and a few others. They seemed to enjoy it, actually. Also, there’s this one new guy who seems to be really unsafe so I’d watch out for him, too." Taps his chin and tries to think back. Yea, that was pretty much it- oh wait. "There was also a murder once, but we don’t talk about that." Scratches his cheek. "I think we live by the one who just moved here but the rest were anonymous, so who knows." All honesty, no minced words. That was Shintaro.

Painfully blunt was the way Sugata liked it, at least. If someone was murdered and cut up and hidden around the city, he'd want to know when, where, and why. ...For safety reasons, of course. He's not into that. "I see. I hope you don't mind me having a weapon or two, then-" Not that that's odd at all- "They're just swords. I'd planned on keeping them in storage, but...it looks like I'll be wanting to keep them close. Thank you for telling me."

"Not all of them are."

A serious look. “There’s a few people here who are a bit insane.” A small shrug. He just wanted to warn his new roommate, that’s what good roommates did, right? “Some people even got shot.”

"...how long ago was this? Was it a freak incident, or...?" Good thing Shintaro had told him; finding out through his own encounter with the less friendly side of town would have been a fight worth talking about for weeks.

"I certainly hope we don't live near these people."

If Arthur had to choose a group, he’d probably lean more towards the one that had those who kept to themselves. He was more capable than others at opening up, but in the long run, he didn’t let everyone view him as if he were an open book. As Sugata believed, allowing others to do that was idiotic. People weren’t meant to be figured out so easily, in Arthur’s opinion. 

Ultimately, there was little wrong with Toshi at first glance. It was self-sufficient, possessed studious schools, and held many intelligent and capable people from all around the world. Yet too many things had gone wrong recently that Arthur worried about being about to remain at ease. It was looking to be the opposite…

Lips curling up in amusement, the blond turned to look over at the teen and offered a little chuckle. “I’m pleased to hear that, I have no qualms with showing you my business. Ah—” He cut himself off, lifting fingers to his lips in surprise. “Do forgive me —where are my manners? My name is Arthur Kirkland,” he stated, holding out his free hand with a sheepish smile.

Unfortunately, Sugata was a tad hypocritic and found himself absolutely annoyed when people hid things from him. If he found someone he liked, he would want to know what they thought of him. If this person happened to think like him in a sense of privacy, well, tough luck. Analyzing was always an option, but he'd noticed that assumptions are hardly reliable. 

He hadn't been told of whatever happened before his arrival, but he would likely pique interest very quickly once it dawned on him that not all was as it seemed. If it came to it - to the point where he felt uncomfortable in the city - he'd leave and convince Takuto to come with him.  Until then, all's well.

"Oh, it's alright- we both got carried away in conversation." Upon taking Arthur's hand he immediately noticed the sturdiness of it, in addition to its soft texture. Slightly calloused fingers - he was a hard worker, but he couldn't be much older than Sugata himself. "Sugata Shindo. It's a pleasure to meet you, Arthur."

Some people simply couldn’t help the way they behaved, in the end. When one is used to leaving them exposed for all to see, it was a difficult habit to break. Likewise, if all you did was close yourself off to the world… Then that was also a struggle to overcome. There are two types of people in the world, as they say.

Arthur definitely slipped up in the past, and perhaps he was more susceptible to messing up now that he was comfortable. Being content had a way of tempting one to let their guard down… Toshi City and its inhabitants had that sort of atmosphere.

Running his thumb over the rim of his lidded drink, Arthur kept his eyes down before speaking. “I’d be happy to recommend some blends, in that case. It isn’t far from here, actually… a couple blocks down and a right turn,” he added, waving a hand flippantly. “But I won’t press you to go like some shop owners like to do.”

It's good, though, that there's group A and group B. Without each other, the ones with the hearts on their sleeves would never have someone to calm them down, and the ones with padlocks securing their deepest thoughts would continue to bottle it up til the day they die. There was always someone from group A for someone in group B, and vice versa. Even Sugata knew that.

The atmosphere of Toshi City was certainly relaxing, but it's not as though the blueheaded man was tense and anxious. Sugata was content with keeping his emotions in place and secrets private. This wouldn't change no matter where he moved, it seemed, it all depends on who's there.

With a little frustrated expression, his citrine eyes returned to Arthur with a nod. "No, no, I'd actually like to go. It looks as though the snow might turn into rain soon, and I'd rather wait it out in a tea shop, as opposed to a cafe where everyone will crowd in..." He didn't hate the rain, he just hated getting caught in it...ever since that one time... "If that's okay with you."

It wasn’t unusual for people to feel as if they needed to hide how they truly felt. For those that wore their hearts on their sleeves, others caught on pretty quick when they were attempting to hide something. However, a person can truly hone the ability to mask their real emotions and thoughts, and that was the type of person one had to really take time with to be able to see what they were truly like.

Arthur was in between. He could both conceal his feelings as well as willingly open up as long as he was sufficiently comfortable around a person. It had to be a serious matter to make him really build up a wall around himself. 

Quirking his lip, Arthur nodded and released a low hum. “I do. I sell an assortment of tea as well as accompanying products. I’m surprised at how well it’s been keeping up —and grateful.”

Wearing his heart on his sleeve was never an option for Sugata. He'd never rolls his eyes at someone that did, but he found it to be a rather stupid thing to do. You and everything about you would be an open book - your strengths, your weaknesses, and your secrets. Why would you ever want that out in the open?

He was very much capable of showing who he really was, there was no question about it. But he was picky. So, so picky as to who he felt he could trust with his thoughts and feelings. In a way, Sugata Shindo was a mystery, and he always would be.  He didn't expect to find anyone he liked that much anytime soon.

"Tea, huh? I used to drink tea quite a bit, but within the past few days I've only had time for instant coffee and purchased drinks. I might have to stop by sometime, I'm tired of this...liquid sugar."  Not that the fruit juice will ever stop. Shindo secret #1: Juice boxes in the household are never run out.

▶ ll — - It was just one of those days.  When nothing went the idol’s way, things were amiss and she was just downright pissed for no reason; and if you asked her if she received her package from Mother Nature in morning, a blooming black eye is foreseen in your future.

It started when she woke up thirty minutes later than she was supposed to. Maika had a meeting at the studio about some big project, and by the time she got there, the meeting was over. She wasted gas for nothing. The girl decided that she was already outside, she should just buy her groceries on the way home. Nothing happened in the store (thankfully), but when she tried to start her car up, the goddamn thing would just not budge.

With a grumble and a temper slowly rising every minute, Maika trudged the closest way back home, which so happen to be accompanied by the scenic Dead Flower Garden.

And to top it all off, it began to rain.

And she was wearing high wedges.

So, inevitably, Maika slipped, tuna cans and apples flying in the air, the sound of the cheap plastic grocery bag tearing apart, but not before she could curse out a hearty “Fodase!”

Yeah, it just wasn’t her day.

The day had been calm and quiet for Sugata. His roommates were busy elsewhere and he had spent his time at the shrine; perhaps a bit more than necessary (as he worked only part-time, but it was just so nice), but that didn't matter.  He was about to experience his fair share of excitement. 

On his way home from the wooded corner of Toshi, the man decided he'd take a detour through a small garden, whose flowers appeared to be, ah...less than lively. He also noticed that the patterned stone pathway underneath his shoes was rather slippery, perhaps from the ice that had not yet completely melted.

In the midst of thinking to himself, don't slip, be careful where you step, he heard a loud thud feet ahead of him and turned his attention to the white and pink-haired woman that had apparently just taken a dip herself. 

Ouch.

"Miss- Are you alright?" In a few rushed strides Sugata was crouched down beside her, one hand hovering over her possibly twisted ankle whilst the other collected the closest cans of tuna. "Don't move if it hurts."

How interesting… There were a good many people Arthur knew who would experts at manipulation. If not manipulation of others, then manipulation of their own feelings and emotions —the blond’s ex came to mind when he considered such a thing. Luckily that was currently the furthest thing form his mind, seeing as how he didn’t particularly enjoy recalling such things. He knew better than to dip his toes back into those shark-infested waters.

"Much longer indeed," huffed the Brit in good humor, tilting his head back briefly to eye the darkening sky. "That is good to hear. It’s rather simple getting comfortable in Toshi, that’s for sure…" Though some of the events over the past couple months… 

Pushing such things from his mind, Arthur peeked back over at the youth and nodded with a wry smile. “I do. It’s different and definitely peculiar, but I find it fitting for someone such as myself… And my business is doing well, too.”

Sugata wasn't terribly manipulative. It's just that he always knew what he wanted, and he always knew exactly how to get it. He was slightly too proud to ask for things straight up, especially if his emotions were at stake. He was one to hide his feelings; he kept them locked up where nobody would find them, nobody could touch them. Unless, of course, he allowed someone to. Which wasn't often.

On the matter of exes, he wasn't sure if he had one. He'd always been "with" Wako, but along with the doubt of returned feelings, he's obviously miles and miles away from her now.  Oh well. He'll sort that out later. Today, maybe, when he had time to sit around in peace and quiet.

"You have a business?" What a feat. If Sugata started a shop now, in three years he'd still be fussing over the crooked countertop. "You make things and sell them, or...?"

Oh- there he is.

"Oi, Sugata, do you have any scissors that can cut through plastic?"

Unbelievable.

"No, I don't."

In the end, such things were probably inevitable. Arthur was a careful individual, always thinking through his actions and making sure he exhibited zero mistakes. But he was only human, of course, and incidents were bound to happen eventually. No matter.

Raising thick brows slowly, Arthur inclined his head briefly to catch everything the boy was saying. The question elicited a little chuckle out of him.

"It’s not nosy at all, don’t worry. I’m from England, but I’ve been living in Toshi for three years now," he answered, taking a slow sip from his cup. "So I suppose my accent is morphing a little bit, it seems." Glancing out of the corner of his eye, he smiled a little bit. "And you?"

To claim Sugata was without fault was also a mistake. On the outside, it looked like he was good at everything he attempted; even things that took practice, like kendo or volleyball, proved to be easy for him at a glance.  But that was only because he's good at hiding his slip-ups. You see, even if you make a blunder in the middle of a busy street, where everyone can see you, that adorable embarrassed expression will get you far.  He's perfected that very manipulative expression.

"Ah...so you've been here far longer than I have." A light laugh passed his lips at the question Arthur shot back at him before he took one more sip of his drink. "I just moved here. Tuesday. I still haven't settled everything in, but it's coming along nicely..."

He glanced at the sky. Would the snow turn into rain? Those clouds looked rather dark... "You must like it here, having stayed put since you moved."

"Thank you kindly," responded the Englishman, seating himself carefully on the open part of the bench while holding his cup close. He may be cold, but not cold enough to willingly spill scalding tea all over himself.

He’d heard about that McDonald’s incident in America, and he wasn’t about to make a similar mistake. Tch, Americans… How foolish.

Glancing over at the teen briefly, he figured that the boy was still a high schooler. Despite this, he wore a rather adult-like expression and gave off the impression that he behaved older than his years. Arthur was of a similar personality, only twenty-three years old but having needed to grow up quickly. Quite unpleasant but necessary, and he didn’t regret it.

McDonald's incident? In America? The same thing had happened back at home. When you live with someone rowdy like Takuto, spilling things in the kitchen or at the table can be unavoidable at times. It was only a matter of when he'll spill something hot, not if.

"Forgive me if this comes off as nosy, but how long have you been here? You have an accent, but it sounds a little like it's beginning to blend in."

Immediately noticeable was the accent in the older man's voice. British, perhaps a bit faded... Sugata was aware of his own accent. Not that he was paying attention, but the way he was likely pronouncing his Ls and his pitch accent was no doubt prominent, maybe even embarrassing.
