hi why don't you like lawlight? like do u have some reasons im trying to understand why people dislike the ship because most of the time it's a really stupid reason

The reason is truly just 'personal taste', man. I have no moral objections to it and I can see where other people derive the juice from, I'm just not into it. Fated Rivals(TM) is possibly my least favorite trope in the world, there was just never going to be anything for me there.

While I do have disagreements with some of the popular fanon of how the characters are written in a ship context, that's not why I dislike the ship. You could write it in a very IC way and I'd still not be interested, because the storytelling tropes underpinning the ship appeal are just not doing it for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I dislike it rather than just being neutral solely due to over-exposure. Spending 10+ years in the fandom and having to listen to "if you don't like Lawlight, what could you possibly even like about the entire story" for that amount of time may make a woman dig her heels in, haha.

I think Light had more of a saviour complex than a god complex. This could be an unneeded rant but I always see people saying he has a god complex. Whilst I think that is accurate to an extent I think he mainly has a saviour complex and the god complex came afterwards to justify the saviour complex.

Light wanted to become apart of the police force like his father, he wanted to help people and get justice for ordinary citizens. Unlike what I see most people saying I don’t think before the death note Light had a massive ego. I think this because during the Yotsuba Arc he actually appears quite humble and relatively chill. His intelligence is obvious and he definitely uses it but he doesn’t flex it and isn’t using the Kira case as a means to make himself seem smart, he is doing it because he genuinely wants to help people and save anyone else from being hurt in the name of justice.

When he gets the death note the first person he kills (I can’t remember his name I’m a fake fan 💔) is done as test but if it were to work it would’ve saved many children and their caregivers. His next kill is then saving a woman from sexual assault/murder. He then proceeds to feel extremely guilty and loses 10 pounds and can’t deal with the weight of killing people. But! As we learn when he meets Ryuk he expected Ryuk to take his soul and then kill him. Due to this he continued to write in the death note the names of people who were going to hurt more people because he was going to die anyways. When Ryuk doesn’t and explains the rules he then says he will become the God of a new world.

I think Light only says the God thing because without the notion of him being a God of sorts then his actions are unjustifiable. I don’t think Light genuinely views himself as a god more than a Saviour, he only says it because as soon as he sits down and questions whether or not he is a God his ideals fall apart and he’d fall back into that initial depression. But Light wouldn’t do that, he’s an immature teenager. When Ryuk first meets him and points out the flaw in his plan “You’d be the last evil person alive.” Light doesn’t understand what he’s saying, and he doesn’t sit down and question it, instead I’d say he’s delighted he can help people, because he doesn’t view the lives being lost he own views the possibility that he is saving people.

Anyways I don’t think this was necessary but no one in my life cares and I wanted to say it. If theres a flaw or if I’m missing the point about something please tell me so I can learn and don’t look like a massive stupid idiot in the future. Thank you

L is not “emotionless” as others claim, he does care about others, even if it’s not blatantly obvious. He’s not some emotionless machine like he presents himself. He cares about Watari and worries more about him than himself during his death. He warns the task force members about the shinigami despite knowing he’s probably next on the list. He doesn’t guilt trip Aizawa into staying in the task force despite the mission being beneficial with more members and takes care of the entire task force’s family financially. He does genuinely respect Light intellectually and he actually liked(?) amnesiac Light. (only Yotsuba arc, it’s canon that he dislikes Light). He warns Aizawa not to go to Sakura TV because he knows that it’s going to kill him. (He was visibly distressed in the manga, though it’s less obvious in the anime) He saves Matsuda 2 times during the case despite it being extra work for him. He’s selfless enough to put his own life at risk for the Kira Case and not complain about it. H

Obviously he is still morally grey as the main motive for his actions is to stimulate himself, he describes it as beating a video game. Not to mention the lengths he would take to solve a case, bordering on illegal/morally dubious (eg: traumatising Light and Misa by making him believe Soichiro is going to kill them, Torturing Misa and using any method possible in order to extract information on her for being the second Kira, willing to risk the lives of several innocents in order to find out how Higuchi kills). However it’s also innacurate to say that L has no emotions and that every single act of kindness he does is purely for the sake of manipulating others when he canonically does have trouble expressing emotions. He’s not someone to be idolised, however it’s an overstatement to claim he’s just as bad as Light when unlike Light and Mello he doesn’t actively put innocents at risk. A lot of his morally grey actions csn be somewhat justified by the fact that there’s a mass murderer on the loose. He’s a complex character and his morally dubiousness is the reason why I’m drawn to him. His childishness and his own way of expressing emotions are very endearing and I find him quite relatable.

if you ask me if i truly shipped them, my answer is no. and i like it that way. what i do like about lawlight is the community surrounding it, the fanart, and the fact that L and light are my favourite characters ever. so indulging in th ship is a win-win, even if i don't actually ship them.
