Hey, I'm applying to sheridan for September 2018 and I love your work! Can I just ask, how are you finding the course? I heard theres a strike happening or something. Do you know if that happens often? And how has it affected the course? Sorry for the spam of questions hahah
(not sure if this question is recent or not, but here’s my answer anyways!)I actually graduated last April/May and now I’m out in BC working as an animator! When I attended Sheridan, they were sort of in the middle of updating the course a bit. That being said , it affected the years below mine, so my peers and I didn’t really get a chance to experience the altered courses and subject matter being put in place. That being said, I loved sheridan. It has it’s problems (like any and every college) and the administration isn’t great, but the animation program in particular was fantastic. It’s a LOT of work. I was able to manage my workload and mental health okay, but a lot of people can’t. A lot of people struggle through the stress, late nights/all nighters. It’s different for everyone. Even though I don’t think I struggled, it wasn’t easy. At sheridan there’s a pressure to be good, so excel and to put forwards some awesome work- and sometimes thats overwhelming and will take over. But the friends I made at sheridan, both peers and faculty, helped a LOT. Long nights in the studio could be fun, so long as my friends were there with me. As for the strike, it sucked. I wasn’t there, nor was I even close to oakville, but I have some friends still attending and it was awful. Personally I think that the 3rd and 4th years would be able to push through with the help of their peers (their assignments are more independent), but the strike potentially harmed 1st and 2nd years learning. There’s so much to practice and learn in the earlier years that NEED a teacher. As far as i know it doesn’t happen too often... but I don’t really know much :/With all this in mind, there ARE other animation schools that are just as good as sheridan. The only thing that makes sheridan special is industry day, but if you focus, work hard and are proactive, getting a job shouldn’t be a problem.Animation school is what YOU make of it. At Sheridan, at Seneca, at OCAD? ANYWHERE! tl;dr - It was a LOT of work, it can mess you up, but I enjoyed it a lot, learned a lot and here I am in the industry. But don’t go to sheridan just cuz it’s sheridan. Any animation school will give you the skills you need. YOU are in charge of how much you improve and grow- not your school. :DI hope that helped a bit?
