Imagine how long it takes the crew to clean up after the holidays. They go so hard. So often. Everyone and everything is Absolutely Wrecked.
At least 4 people have passed out in the botany wing among the plants. Medbay and like 6 rooms make bootleg Ultra Hypos that cure hangovers under the table that command turnes a blind eye to (partially bc they Also need them)
The amount of people that crash in other peoples rooms and wake up with no memory is So Prevalent that they make an Event of all getting together and watching the security feed to see how the Hell people got where they ended up. Security makes a highlight reel of it every holiday season.
And who kept an eye on cadet chester?
In an odd period of roll reversal, Chester found himself making sure his family was okay. Zapping Ultra Hypos to the crew, making sure intoxicated persons couldn't get close to the airlock, helping get people to their room (or someone else's...it was the bed that counted), etc.
No one knew how much he'd done until they watched the security feed. They dubbed him The Blue Angel after watching him 'save' Tilly, Rhys, and Owo from the maze of jeffies tubes they'd gotten lost in during a drinking game.
Things my mind thinks of late at night: Pike singing Nature Boy to the tardigrade
I like to think all the crew take on Chester as their Collective Baby. Ash sings him human and Klingon songs, Detmer and Owo put on pop music for him, Michael reads him alice in wonderland, Tilly introduces him to rock music.
Collective Baby who ends up having a Well Versed taste in music
Personal Log:
Cadet Chester made a friend during shore leave. I can not decide if the they are scheming or playing. Computer: remind me to check their behavior levels.

Crew Evaluation:
Cadet Chester has provided cathartic experiences for all crew members that intact with him. He has indeed proven to boost morale and been extremely helpful with ship duties in the process.
Personal Log:

Chester saves Admiral Badass from the bomb.
From: @qksilver99
The manual release sealed the rest of the Enterprise off from the explosion, and her along with it. Kat knew that the photon torpedo had only seconds before going off. How do you prepare yourself in seconds? Her life wasn't flashing before her eyes. There was no panic or regret. Just finality. She could see the regret in Chris' eyes as she turned away. He was already mourning. She was glad he wouldn't have to live with making the call. She'd done that. Small mercies.
After years of counseling officers on the matter of death, she'd never given any thought to how she'd face her own. All of her near death experiences had lead to handling almost dying. She'd never actually done it. Then she realized...she wouldn't have to. There would be no more Admiral Katrina Cornwell. Someone else would sort through the personell files and unfinished paper work. Pack up her quarters. Tell her family.
She finished her turn and faced her end. Standing at attention. Putting herself between the crew and the blast. One final measure of dedication and devotion born from a life of service. Her last stand as a Starfleet Admiral.
She refused to close her eyes as the deafening blue light enveloped her. She had expected as much. What she hadn't expected was to see another flash of blue at her side. To feel something grip onto her arm as the bright heat around her grew blinding. She blinked.
In that instant she felt her surroundings change. The feeling of the smooth deck of the Enterprise was gone. Replaced by the rough, solid texture of..somewhere? The bright blue that had enveloped her vanished leaving nothing but black in comparison. Ears ringing, she opened her eyes. At least she thought she had. It was dark wherever she was and her eyes couldn't adjust quickly enough to take in her new environment. The ringing in her ears making her dizzy. Great. Blind and deaf. Sure hope this isn't Leland's ship or I'm so screwed.
One thing she was able to tell was that whatever had grabbed her had not only pulled her out of dodge, Pulled? Transported? Beamed?, but it was still clinging to her arm. She felt eight limbs in total and what she assumed were antennae brushing her cheek. Jumped then. She smiled and raised her arm to hold the little creature with the other. She felt the minute vibrations coming from him and knew that he was trying to sooth her via "purring" (as Doctor Culber had once so aptly put it).
"Thanks for the save back there, Cadet."
Chester's response was to hug her tighter.

Admiral Katrina 'Badass' Cornwell was not amused. There was an entire crew of Starfleet officers that were refusing to acknowledge the strange sounds around the ship. The popping or snapping or whatever. She knew the war had taken a lot of things from these people but she didn't think sanity was one of them. Chris seemed to be either taking it in stride or trying to lead her off the source of the sounds. Ensign Tilly wouldn't look her in the eye when it was heard. And Burnham, with her Vulcan stoicism, wasn't giving anything away. Just the occasional glance at the Ensign to see if she'd crack. Short of giving the entire crew a mental health evaluation there was only one source the Admiral knew she could go to. One that would get right to the point and was unskilled in the tactics of a cover up. It wasn't in her programming.
About an hour later Cornwell stormed into the ready room.
"Admiral..?"
"A Tardigrade, Chris? Really?"
"How did-"
"Arium."
"Ah...Admiral, I can assure you-"
"Of what? That your crew isn't keeping an intelligent, interdenominational, time traveling being as a pet?"
"It's my understanding that Cadet Chester came to us and stayed of his own accord."
"That doesn't excu-.....wait, you gave it a rank?"
"Technically Commander Saru gave him his rank...but it might have been my idea."
"So not only are you harboring an unsanctioned species, you gave it a rank?"
"Admiral, Chester has been nothing if not helpful. He's helped Commander Stamets expand the Spore Drive's navigational capabilities, helped Commander Reno rewire the Warp Core around the Mycelial technology in engineering, and...he boosts morale."
" Helpful or not it's still-"
"'A breech of protocol'. But seeing as he won't leave, and he can't communicate verbally, my only option is to assume that he has requested some form of asylum."
At this, Katrina's only response was to raise a sharp eyebrow. "Why shouldn't I have it removed? What aren't you telling me?"
"Discovery's crew found him during the war. Burnham has placed his age at the time as being mere weeks old. He was orphaned. Discovery is the only home he's known. Practically speaking, not only does he know this ship inside and out, but if we send him away there is a chance he could hold a grudge and take down this ship in minutes. With Discovery being the only ship in the fleet with a Spore Drive that would be...non-optimal."
Pike 1, Cornwell 0. And he knew it too based on the tiny smirk he was giving her now. Damn it. "How do we know we can trust it?"
"Because he trusts us. Sometimes putting your faith in people pays off, Admiral. Plus, Discovery's destruction would break Aunt Tilly's heart and he'd never want to do that."
"Aunt Tilly..?"
"Long story."
"We don't rendezvous with Leland's ship for another three hours. I've got time."
"Have a seat, Admiral."
First off, the fucking *noise* I made when I realized the same time Cornwell did that Chester has RANK was incredible. 11/10
Also, “Pike 1, Cornwell 0” made me snort. Also I love that at some point Chris went from “determidly NOT acknowledging Chesters presence” to “let me tell you the tale of how we all fit into Chester’s ‘Found Family Tree’

Culber just like Apparates to her side "What happened?! Phaser blast?! Spore poisoning?!"
"He's warm and he's not eating!"
Culber stops. "...what?"
"HE'S VOLVANIC OVER HERE AND NOT CONSUMING-"
"Tilly! I heard. What you are describing is a cold. All life forms get sick when they're young." He says as he takes Chester from her.
"He's going to be fine."
"bUt wHAt IF-"
"Tilly! He. Will. Be. Fiiiiine. Or do you doubt me?"
"No."
"Good."
Someone (not hugh because hugh is not stupid and sees enough of paul in Tilly to know a lost cause when he sees one) tells Tilly to put chester down for a hot minute so she can, yknow, eat and sleep and shit and crazy-eyes-squeals so loud and high the person needs medical attention.
It eventually takes Reno telling her she cant look after him when shes not 100%, paul promising to hold him the whole time (free hugh time, let's be honest, as much as he loves chester he loves hugh more) and michael going all "you wont become a captain if you break down every time someone gets hurt" for her to relent
All of the SoftHelicopterMamaBearVibes coming off this post! Thank you for that addition!

He walks off the shuttle and says i met Chester.
Convo w/ : @qksilver99
"Captain Pike's shuttle isn't answering hails, sir."
"Keep trying Lieutenant Bryce."
Well that's never a good sign. Saru didn't know what condition he'd find his captain in after his trip to the planet of Boreth. Chancellor L'Rell had informed them of the dangers of the planet prior to Captain Pike's departure. They had assessed the situation as both non threatening and vital to the mission. Yes, they were Klingons. But they were at peace..and they were also monks which carried the precedent of a peaceful (though possibly turbulent) mission.
"The Captain's shuttle is boarding now, Sir, but he's still not responding."
"Thank you, Detmer. Bridge to SickBay. Have a team meet me in the shuttle bay immediately."
When Saru arrived the medical team was already waiting. "Is the shuttle door jammed? Why has he not exited?"
"Life signs show he's conscious in there, Sir. Short answer: idk dude."
Saru rolled his eyes at the medical officer. He was glad that Pike was encouraging the crew to relax from Lorca's obsessively Strick behavior, but really.
As Saru was about to order the med team to use an emergency override on the door he heard a *snap* from inside the shuttle. The door opened. Pike exited the shuttle with his normal measure of composure...alone.
Saru decided to leave it for the moment since there were more pressing matters.
"I trust the mission was successful, Captain?"
"Very, Commander."
As they started walking to the turbo lift Saru continued his line of questioning.
"It is customary for one to answer a hail when it comes through, however. Are you alright? Did anything happen on the planet that I should know about?"
"Not to worry, Commander. Little Blue took care of it for now."
Saru stopped abruptly. "'Little Blue', Sir?"
Pike turns around in the turbo lift. "Yes, Commander. Little Blue. The Tardigrade that the crew has been so diligently smuggling around my ship. But you knew that already."
With a wink from Pike the turbo lift doors close on a not so shocked Saru. Stamets is going to have a field day.

He did it. He had completed his mission. The time crystal was safe in its containment box on the shuttle back to the Discovery. And so was he. He didn't feel like it. His only solace knowing that he'd done the right thing, as flashes of what he'd just seen played through his mind. Damn crystal. Shaking hands piloted the shuttle back to Discovery, but he couldn't make it go any faster. His mind was unraveling and he couldn't stop the images with all of the mental training in the galaxy. One after the other. Alarms. Explosion. Touching hot glass. The beeping. The chair. The scars. Repeat. Over and over. Discovery tried to comm him. He couldn't hear it. What Pike did hear was the tiny *snap* from behind him in the shuttle.
How did Chester end up on the discovery? Did they find him in the spore room and someone forgot to close the door?

Tilly found Chester during the Klingon War munching on bits of Stamets' mycelial forest. He was so small she would have missed him. He, however, was so happy to be in the forest that he was making his little squeaks and purrs. Tilly initially freaked. She tried to hide him and took him back to her quarters, planning on figuring out how to sneak spores for him past Lieutenant Stamets and of corse Michael will help her she's a Xenoanthropologist it's practically an affront to her very existence not to and oh my god how mad will Captain Lorca be if he finds out?! Tilly's "sneaking" of the baby Tardigrade lasted about...a day. The ship went into Black Alert, which freaked the baby Tardigrade out and he blooped right onto Tilly in engineering.
Stamets' tried to be kind when he told his science child that she couldn't keep the baby Tardigrade.
"We can send it on its way like we did the last Tardigrade, but you and I both know it's not safe to keep it. If Lorca finds out it'll just become another science experiment."
A heartbroken Tilly followed Stamets into the science lab with the baby Tardigrade cuddled in her arms. She placed him in the ejection chamber and Stamets gave it spores. They sent it on its way.
About 15 minutes later, back in engineering Tilly and Stamets heard a *snap* in the cultivation chamber. They went to check and sure enough, there was the baby Tardigrade, rolling around in the spores making his happy noises.
"Chester's back!"
"You named it, Cadet?"
Stamets knew there was no going back once Tilly had named it him. The crew members learned of Chester's new residency aboard Discovery gradually, but all were immediately on team "Hide The Baby From Lorca".
They all tried to rotate the room Chester stayed in but he usually ended up with Michael and Tilly or Culber and Stamets. Whoever was on break took on "Chester watch". There was an entire private crew message board about Chester (consisting of pretty much everyone but Lorca). Sharing ways of teaching him commands, letting everybody know what he'd responded to the best, and making sure they all knew where the Captain was at all times to make sure Chester never crossed his path.

I now have a MIGHTY NEED for the story of them trying to hide this tardigrade from their New Captain and Also later on the Admiral In S2.
He knows the Whole Time That theyre keeping *something* from him, and he’s reasonably sure it’s alive, but he thinks it’s too funny to actually Call them on it until they slip up or come clean
Christopher Pike has an ungodly sense of where to find all the secrets. He knew to go to Michael when asking about a certain Emperor turned Starfleet "Captain". But with this..he wasn't sure. He had gotten used to hearing the *snaps* from somewhere around him. But his new crew hadn't flinched like he had the first time he'd noticed. He also noticed that whatever it was that they were keeping from him was boosting morale.
The *snaps* were often accompanied by stifled laughter down the corridor or behind a closed door. When he'd hear a *snap* from outside of SickBay he knew that the crew member being attended to would be in high spirits by lunch. As a Pike grew more aware of the snaps his sense of relief grew. Someone or something was cheering up his crew. He didn't need to know all the details as long as no one got hurt. He'd let the crew have this one.
His first clue about his crew's 'best kept secret' came shortly after their new Section31 liaison came aboard. He could tell Burnham was out of sorts but he didn't want to pry. She may be human, but she was still raised Vulcan and probably didn't want to discuss whatever was bugging her in the hallway. So he left it...until he couldn't...which was about halfway down the hallway. He doubled back to actually talk to Burnham and give her a Captainly *cough* spacedad *cough* pep talk. As he approached the open door he heard the now familiar *snap*.
Two things went through him in an instant: relief and a little panic. He quickly dodged away from the door. Whatever accompanied the snaps was the crews business. Burnham would be fine. And even if/when he the crew did tell him about whatever was going on, he'd never admit to them about seeing the little flash of blue with a Starfleet logo.
How did Chester end up on the discovery? Did they find him in the spore room and someone forgot to close the door?
