[SWATCHES] Dirty Rose/My Lips But Better Shades

A friend of mine messaged me today, asking for the Bourjois shade I said that was similar to Kat Von D’s Double Dare. I decided to do a quick swatch comparing some of the similar shades I have on hand (on hand as in, things I reach for the most, but this is maybe a fifth of the total amount I have in this shade range. Oops.)

Here are the swatches on the arm under natural sunlight.

The closest shade to Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare is actually Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 07 Nude-ist. The entire time I had thought that 12 Beau Brun would be the closest match! Both Bourjois 12 and Kat Von D’s Double Dare almost dries down to a finish with a slightly grey tinge.

Another two shades that looked quite similar were Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 12 Beau Brun and Peripera Ink the Velvet in 6 Celeb Deep Rose. Of course the above shades all look pretty similar when on the lips.

Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 501 is the only shade that is more distinctly purple than all of them. It is also the only shade that really pulls purple on my lips for some reason. Both peripera lip stains are very pink when blended.

When you place these items side by side, all of the shades look so similar T_T

Benefit Haul

I saw that Benefit was having their holiday collection and realized that they ship internationally for free (!!) with purchases 100USD and above so I asked my friend to buy something with me. It took exactly 19 days for the parcel to reach Singapore so don't order before you're about to travel!

Came in a securely sealed box. The box had a weird smell though.

Here's what I ordered. Sugarglam Fairies (45USD) and The Real Steal (~28USD). A lot cheaper than buying it at Sephora here. Came with two free samples but I gave my friend one and kept this moisturizer for myself.

How it's packaged inside isn't as appealing ahah but for the prize I'm not complaining! I've always wanted to try the Hoola Bronzer that's why I got this but I think I'm either tooooo light-handed or it's just too similar to my skin color because I don't think it does much of a difference to my face eheh heh.

November 2014 Favourites

In no particular order:

1. Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner - I bought this because of HeyClaire on youtube because I have hyper-pigmentation from acne too and honestly I can say that I've seen visible results since I started using this exactly 29 days ago. I've been trying to buy a backup but the place I ordered this from always has this out of stock.

2. LUSH Dream Cream - I have (had tbh) a very bad case of eczema on my shins and it didn't go down even with prescribed medication. I won't say that this made my eczema go away (more so to do with the weather and things I eat) but this didn't irritate my skin while moisturizing it. I apply this religiously every evening after I shower. NZD$37.90 from LUSH NZ.

3. La Maison De Senteurs Gardenia Rose Hand Cream - A gift someone got for my mom but I end up using it (as always). The rose scene isn't overwhelming and this feels tacky the moment you rub it in but after a minute of two of rubbing, it gets absorbed into your hands with no residue. S$19.90 from Marks & Spencer.

4. TOPSHOP Highlighter in Crescent Moon - It's the only highlighter I use and I'm so glad I got this on sale because this shades seems to have disappeared from all TOPSHOP locations in the country. S$18+ from TOPSHOP.

5. Innisfree Long Wear Cushion - It's easy to apply and it doesn't cake up. I won't say the coverage is anything to write home about but it's easy and I use this daily. Been using this since June and I haven't had to touch the refill yet but I think it's going to run out soon. $159RMB from Innisfree Beijing (came with a free refill because it was on promotion).

6. Etude House Look at My Eyes Cafe Eyeshadow in BR401 Cafe Latte - This is the closest eyeshadow I have to my skin color and I apply this before eyeliner every day in order to keep my eyeliner in place. Sometimes I use this as contouring.

7. Shiseido Refining Makeup Primer - It's a primer and it works better than the Skinfood one. Slightly tinted. Makes me skin really smooth. I don't think it covered much of my pores though. Pretty expensive and I think I used it so often because I'm trying to use it up. S$84 from OG.

8. Etude House Drawing Eyebrow in 05 Grey - I am born with naturally full eyebrows so I only use this to fill in the slightly sparse areas. This can be really harsh so always use a light hand. Since my hair is so dark, this matches pretty well.

9. Etude House Bling Bling Eye Stick in 10 Little Bear Star - I don't remember where or when I bought this and I only opened this like 4 or 5 days ago but I am in love. It's like my skin color but slightly darker with some shimmer. It's not glittery but it gives my eyelids such a nice wash of color. Easily blendable too. I apply this after the eyeshadow.

10. Etude House Proof10 Auto Pencil in BR402 Brown - I have this in both black and brown but I find that this smudges less on me. I use this to set my liquid eyeliner ahaha. This is more of an ash color than brown.

11. Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Bourbon - I've had this set for over 2 years now and I rarely use it but when I do I'm always impressed with it's staying power. As long I don't rub my eyes unconsciously, it won't smudge. It's also really buttery and doesn't tug my eyelids.

12. Innisfree Eco Fruit Tint in 01 Cherry - Comparable to the Benetint and I use this on my lips before I add any lipstick.

13. Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Camellia Eau de Toilette Spray Vaporisateur - I like the scent. It's not mind blowing but I like it enough to use it almost daily.

THE BODY SHOP Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream Review

I've been using this for the past 8 months and then-some (and I've repurchased it), so I think I can give a fair review on this product.

*I have oily combination skin that is very, very, very sensitive.

On the left is the full sized product (old packaging) containing 50ml of the cream, on the left is the travel size containing 15ml of the cream.

Full size in Singapore cost SGD$29.90 when I bought it in the later half of 2013. The price has increased to SGD$30.90 in 2014 and their new packaging isn't very appealing. The same product costs NZD$29.25 throughout New Zealand. I can't remember how much I purchased the tiny one for, but I do recall calculating it to be cheaper if you bought 3 of the smaller ones instead of 1 full-sized one. Water u doin body shop.

The full-sized container comes with a lid while the smaller one doesn't. I guess it keeps the bacteria out better but honestly it got kinda messy especially when it's tossed around in a luggage.

The product has a gel-like consistency and is translucent. A very light cream that's great for warm summer days because it absorbs super fast.

Although you can't really see it because of the shadow (and I apologize for the hairy arm oops), the part where I applied the cream (bottom half) felt a lot more smooth than the part where I didn't.

The product has a very light, fresh scent. It's not overwhelming at all. Also it didn't irritate my skin despite how sensitive it is. It mattifies my face but doesn't dry it out when I use it. I use this after my toner and skin clearing lotion and before my sunscreen.

Overall I think this is a pretty good product. It does mattify the face, but not for a very long time. I don't think it controls oil and sebum very well. This product is more suitable for those with normal to oilier skin, and it may not be moisturizing enough for those with dry skin. I recommend using another moisturizer beneath this.

I only use this product every morning instead of both morning and night, so the full-sized product lasted me slightly more than half a year.

After I'm done using the travel sized ones (I have two of them), I probably won't repurchase them again unless I have a gift card or they're on sale because it's a good product but I can't justify paying over 30 dollars for them.

RIMMEL Apocalips First Impression

I ordered 2 Apocalips Lip Lacquers from asos slightly less than a week ago. The colors I got were 303 Apocaliptic and 301 Galaxy. It was my first time ordering from asos and I was honestly surprised at how fast their delivery was because they said it'll probably arrive on the 8th, but it arrived on the 2nd instead. Shipped from Auckland to Dunedin, New Zealand.

The packaging is tinier than I remembered, but the mechanics to their packaging is pretty sleek. This is the Galaxy shade (I totally bought it for the name tbh).

This is how it looks when you take out the applicator for the first time. Somehow the mouth of the tube stops too much of the product from coming out. Also it feels really satisfying when you watch the clear plastic get coated in product.

Galaxy on the left, Apocaliptic on the right. Galaxy was less purple and more mauve, while Apocaliptic is much brighter than in the photo.

The consistency is pretty thick, and even if you dab a tiny bit of product onto your lips and spread it out, you can still feel the stickiness when you press your lips together.

When I was wiping away the product from my arm, I realized that one of the colors had glitter in them that I didn't notice when I first swatched. I think it's probably from Galaxy.

I've been eyeing this product ever since it first came out, so I'm pretty happy that I could get my hands on them. I might use them as a stain instead because the colors are way too bright for school. I haven't tested their lasting power yet, but they do transfer when you drink or eat. Overall I'm pretty satisfied.
